After 2 years of renovating our 74 Dodge B300 Minnie Winnie Motorhome it is finally time to install our newly rebuilt 5.9 Magnum engine and 46RE transmission. These upgrades will give us fuel injection, overdrive, roller cam, and better cylinder head design. Can we get it to fit in our tiny engine bay and transmission crossmember?

You can build headers, custom them yourself pretty easy, I have seen it done a few times, basically headers are just 4 separate pipes meeting at one point, cut and welded together, I guess yours was hitting at the top though, you could cut and cap, but I guess you would lose a certain amount of flow to the last one I am figuring you're thinking?

that motor mount tightening situation is why i keep about 5 different brands of dirt cheap wrenches on hand because they are all slightly different in angle and you grab 5 different wrenches of the same size you will be able to wiggle out a nut in about any tight situation you find your self . also comes in handy if you need to bend ,cut or weld a wrench to make a specialty tool that way you dont have to mess with your good wrenches

Ive done the same thing. I cut down a 1/2 inch open end wrench to have clearance when tightening the thermostat housing bolts on the Ford 302 and 5.0 V8's.

Back in the 90's I did a 2 year commitment nursing home ministry with the Salvation Army.
I prayed with patients & did some preaching there as well.
After a period of time the administrators asked me to visit the the Alzheimer unit bc those peolle don't get much visitors I was told.
Those folks might not know their names or where they at BUT they knew every word to the good ol gospel songs I sang for them !

This project has been so fun to watch all y'all work on, and put back together. Seeing WaWa and Ralphie jumping in and helping with a whole lot more stuff has been great. To see them learn all the skills they have and be able to put them to use is impeccable.

If that chicken is determined to lay eggs in that spot ,maybe put down something down so the eggs don't crack. Ralphie is such a good boy with his I love WA WA tshirt on. You can tell there's alot of love in this family and farm. That little cow running around so happy just makes me smile. The whole video from start to finish makes me smile. Those old GM Saginaw power steering pumps are pretty ubiquitous among American automakers for several decades, yeah. They made them for a long time, and Ford, Chrysler, AMC, just about everybody used them in various vehicles at one point or another. Now that you are familiar with what it looks like (with the reservoir and pump combined in that distinct shape), you’ll start noticing them on tons of older cars.

Sleeper dude is hard to beat. The advantage to older vehicles is you know what you've done to them. When you start out with a used vehicle the process starts all over again. Josh and tosh enjoy your family!

Probably too late now but a set of 92 to 93 magnum manifolds would be the key. They flow better than newer Magnums (ports are bigger) as well as the old LA’s. Yours are center dump and these would be rear dump but they would flow a bit better.

Fell asleep watching some CZcams channel and wake up to this non-stop country voice of a mechanic going on and on about his high quality custom welded bracket under this rv. Took me a while, once I was fully awake, to realize he had his tongue fully implanted into his cheek. And I also agree. Its impeccable !

@@Sleeperdude If you go North in the summer, you can cut down on the AC and maybe extend the trans, but prepare for mosquitoes. This is something the Power Tour planners need to work on too. We visited the Little House on the Prairie house in Minnesota in summer.
You did a wonderful job on the floors and and getting the engine and transmission to fit.

I’m glad you were able to shoehorn that beast of a motor into the RV. It’s really coming along nicely. The wiring will be a challenge, but from what we’ve seen, Josh is more than up to it.
Will you be giving the RV a new coat of paint on the outside? I hope you do. I’m sure you don’t want it to look like Cousin Eddie’s RV. 😂😂

@@Sleeperdude I had a really easy time installing the transmission separately in my B200, unlike in cars, I could just reach down through the doghouse and lift the trans into place from the inside, by myself, easily. distributor access is so much easier too, as is working on the engine in bad weather. So anyway, although I would try to install engine and trans assembly in a car or pickup, I would never do it in a van.
@@Sleeperdude For both your applications, might it be cheaper to find the right drive shaft in a junkyard? is there a driveshaft reference on the internet to give you the length of the drive shaft for every model and year? might a driveshaft from a later B300 work? or just search through a driveshaft pile at the junkyard for one for the Fairmont?
@@Sleeperdude I'm in a super similar situation myself. I want to visit Oregon with an eye to moving there and have a '78 B200 surfer van with a worn out 727 and a good 318; and a camping trailer, but no family (like many in Oregon). I would love the efficiency of an overdrive trans with locking doughnut but worry about the conversion cost and effort. So for me, might I look for late 80's or 90's junk B200s for both the 47RH and the driveshaft? and even the crossover?
My book says there are a few B200s with T-10 5 speeds. Ever see one? I have another B200 with 3 on the tree, so I have the clutch pedal.
Anyway, do you just like fabrication better than scouring junkyards for later model B300s (B350s?) with driveshafts and crossovers? or do you know they would not fit? Would D350 driveshafts fit? crossovers?

Been watching this job, nice job to all you and family. A tornado hit my home town in perryton Texas on the 15th. Devasted my town ,killed a few, injured many. I’m in a daze right now, not easy. I was five blocks away from tornado outside when it ripped through town. Never forget. So got electricity back on at least. Watch CZcams try to get my mind off everything.

Great job putting the motor in. The only failure point I see is on the cross member you should have built a couple of L brackets where the two pieces are welded together. I feel the torque of the engine is going to twist it off where the welds are. Love the videos and great family content.

I see. It might be a good idea to build a 2nd cross-member with L brackets and take it along with them when they are traveling.
