Tekno Big Bone Center Driveshaft for Traxxas Slash 4x4

  • Here's a look at the new Tekno Big Bone Center Driveshaft for Traxxas Slash 4x4. This black anodized aluminum driveshaft uses a standard "dog bone" design and keeps it super lightweight even with it's 1/4" thickness. Also with the kit I got, Tekno includes hardened steel outdrives that bolt directly to the front and rear diffs with the included hardware. This is a "Must Have" for any Slash 4x4 owner. In this video, I show the progression of the install and a slight modification I had to do with the LCG chassis to make everything work perfect.
    Here's where I got it and some info from Tekno RC:
    bit.ly/3aGVMXr
    Product Description
    The Tekno RC Big Bone Driveshaft and Outdrives for the Slash 4×4 and Stampede 4×4 solves the many issues associated with the stock center driveline. First off it's FAT! Yet it's still extremely lightweight.
    It's a dog bone rather than a simple splined shaft and as such will not bind, split, or bend the way the stock shaft does. The laser etched shaft is machined from high quality aluminum and anodized for incredible wear. Newly designed hardened steel outdrives on either end replace the weaker stock parts for the ultimate center driveline available for the Slash 4×4 and Stampede 4×4 vehicles.
    So yeah, it's a 'must have' for any racer or basher. Another rock solid upgrade from Tekno RC!
    Features:
    •FAT, Big Bone shaft is much stronger than stock
    •Dog bone design will not bind, split, or bend like the stock unit
    •Lightweight aluminum shaft, hardened steel outdrives
    •Laser etched and black anodized for wear
    Big Bone Center Shaft Parts List:
    TKR6755 - complete kit (Stampede 4×4)
    TKR6855 - complete kit (Slash 4×4)
    TKR68551 - rear outdrive
    TKR68552 - front outdrive
    TKR67553 - center shaft (Stampede 4×4)
    TKR68553 - center shaft (Slash 4×4)
    * The O-rings go inside the drive cups two in each cup.

    I ran them back to back yesterday and it's night and day. The Tekno feels heavier and that's a good thing, as it's powered accordingly. I have only ran the Slash a couple of packs now and haven't got it dialed like the Tekno. Nothing against the Slash, but I think serious race wise, the Tekno is where it's at.

    I have had zero problems breaking the stock drive shaft and I run the ever living hell out of my slash, I have easily ran over 100 packs through it, at least five or 10 3S and one 4s. I've only broken them in hard crashes because this chassis is designed to flex but if you flex it too hard it will try to make the drive shaft shorter which does not work out so well. The stock drive shaft slides back and forth to allow chassis flex. It's literally required in the design of the car. Don't waste your money on a upgraded, heavier, drive shaft.

      I like your logic so I’m going with another Traxxas shaft. I bended mine in a crash like you mentioned- everything else is good though

    You and I have basically identical Slashes. I just have a Holmes Hobbies motor and ESC & X duty CVDs instead of Tekin & race duty shafts. It would be cool if we lived in the same area so we could race.

  • @matthowell7380
    @matthowell7380 Před 2 lety

    It depends on what you want. If you are racing, then ya it makes sense to go with a stiffer shaft with no play, but if you are just bashing and using the car every once in a while for fun, stick with the stock driveshaft. The chassis flexes on purpose and the driveshaft has play to compensate for the flex

    • @TheRCNetwork
      @TheRCNetwork  Před 2 lety +1

      There's still play in the Tekno shaft. The weakness of the Traxxas shaft are the end points - how it attaches

    I was actually a little disappointed in this product. I replace my stock extruded Traxxas spline style shaft with the Tekno and wound up bending the Tekno one also. I know what you thinking... I'm a baser. Not even close. I have never even run the car outside. I take it to my local hobby shop on the weekend with my boys and run it on their indoor track. The do have some small jumps in there, but nothing too extreme. I assumed it's was a better more robust design than the stock, but under my driving condition I would not expected this to happen.

    • @TheRCNetwork
      @TheRCNetwork  Před 9 lety

      +newagemuscle2010ss That's strange. You may want to check thing to see if you're flexing the chassis at all creating stress on the drive shaft to cause it to bend. The Axis RC brace could help

    • @newagemuscle2010ss
      @newagemuscle2010ss Před 9 lety

      I checked and there is no chassis flex. I considered the chassis brace also, but never really pursued it because I wanted to avoid adding mass to an already heavy vehicle. I contacted Tekno today and they thought it was strange to have bent. According to them I am the first that has contacted them with such an issue. They asked if I would email them some pictures so they could see. I will be doing that tonight. I guess I will see what happens. At this point I just hope it's covered by some type of warranty. I hate to go buy a new one.

Could you please help me out and tell me what I have to do because I really don't want to go back to the stock one. +Michael Flamboe You'll be legal with almost any 540/550 sized 2s system. KV has changed over the years, so double check the ROAR rulebook. 4300kv was the cap a couple of years ago.....With that, the ProSC comes with a 550 sized motor, so it's well balanced for that weight. I'm always favorable to the Tekin systems, as I know them very welll and they're super reliable. The Pro4HD 4300kv mated with an RX8 Gen 2 is the ticket.....If that's not suitable, check out some of HobbyWing's stuff

She doesn't want to upgrade it cause "it works just fine so why spend the money". I say, "It's an upgrade....we "NEEEEED" it !!!! I find the stock drive shaft to be just a little short. I mean, if one side is fully seated, then the other half is only half way attached. This upgrade would get rid of that (if I dare say) problem.

      How does your wife feel about needing to be upgraded? That can get very expensive! I have found it to be cheaper to keep her. LOL, just kidding.
