  • If you like eating real food rather than "freeze dried" but need to keep your gear at a minimum you'll love BOX-POT! This little guy takes up about the same space as a camping mug but cooks all kinds of food amazingly well!
    So far, I've made:
    Bacon & Eggs with Sausage. The square shape and low profile makes pan frying totally doable! Definitely delicious!
    Biscuits and Gravy. I baked the biscuits using the cooking stone, then cooked sausage and made milk gravy from scratch! Everything cooked in the BOX-POT. Too good to be true!
    Ramen. I know, not very challenging but the BOX POT is the perfect size and shape for cooking the Ramen noodle block without needing to break it up. Bonus points!
    Cake. Believe it or not, you can bake a cake to perfection using the box pot with the cooking stone as thermal mass in the bottom. Delectable!

    As some one who has spent a lot of time on how to protect the bottom of a pan from burning I think you have a winning solution to that particular conundrum.

      Rice is quite tricky with some twists. Even with helps from the pros, it'll take several attempts until you get used to it. So it's understandable that some people will just quit after some consecutive failed attempts

    Looks nice. I finally ordered the gas burner with the diffuser and it's arriving today. Looking forward to taking the Ti Nano on more backpacking trips when I'm not too worried about pack weight and bulk. I usually use a small mess tin for rice but I like how the box pot is.. well a box hah. Looks like there can be a lot of uses we just haven't thought of yet.

    Only thing missing is a nice big blob of butter, and a little soy sauce. Good eating right there. Gonna give us a vid on how you season the stone?

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Good question rat dog.
      The stone is seasoned the same way You season a cast iron. Apply oil, heat, repeat.
      However I just tried this with me stone under the pot rather than in the pot and I had good results. More testing is needed to see if the stone will hold up to that kind of abuse but if so seasoning will not be necessary.

    I am Japanese and often eat rice while camping.
    If there are no holes in the lid, the water will blow out and the container will get dirty, but the rice will cook better, so it would be great if you could buy a version without holes in the lid as an option.

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That's very good information for me to know. Thanks for the feedback. Maybe there is a way to temporarily cover the holes.

    • @larryn8
      @larryn8 Před 8 měsíci +2

      My wife is Filipino eating rice at least twice everyday, and we
      use a tight-fitting lid with a small vent hole. The vent hole allows steam to escape and acts as a natural gauge of how much steam is being created in the pot.
      The escaping steam prevents to much pressure from building, but letting off a little steam keeps the internal pressure stabilized.
      When the steam stops coming out we remove from the heat and wait 5-10 minutes as the rice continues absorbing any remaining moisture.
      Perfect rice!

    I'm stoked for this Kickstarter. The cooking stone is a huge asset in this setup. Can you share the rice recipe? What kind of rice and what water ratio? Did I mention I am stoked for this?

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks Mr badger. I'm glad you're liking the box pot! It's been a lot of fun exploring its potential. I believe my ratio was two to one and it was calrose sushi rice 👍 bring it to a boil simmer for 20 minutes. Just tonight I tried another test this time with the stone under the pot rather than in the bottom of the pot. My results were good but I want to continue to test that idea to be sure the stone will hold up to the additional heat. 👍😎

    Hey Steve. Couple questions about the Stone. And a though/idea. Would love to know your thoughts.
    How’s the stone hold up as far as imparting different flavors into different things an or just keeping clean in general.
    For instance I seen you do rice with it in the bottom of the pot. An ceramic is porous.
    So doing so it must soak up all that starchy water an or if any seasoning is ever put in there.
    Than over to a cake the same day next day or whatever. It can be dried out with heat ofcourse but how do ya truly get anything thing sucked into the pores from something prior out of it?
    I ask because I know pizza stones an what not is barely supposed to be washed if any I believe and kept dry for the most part to keep them right.
    Wonder if it would of been possible to have like some home cast iron cookware that’s made. Theirs that ceramic smooth glaze coating on the cast iron.
    Wonder how it would be possible if in manufacturing if it could of been coated in that same ceramic smooth glaze coating.
    An it still having that same thermal mass properties. Except the pores of the stone completely sealed from any food an liquid elements.
    An never truly having to do any drying out of it. Also would be almost a wipe clean smooth glass like surface.
    Hey posted this to 3 of the recent videos. Just for the better chance of being seen

      Honestly, I don't remember the specifics about that batch. It may have been sushi rice but it shouldn't matter. Small batches will work better because the bubbles are pushed to the corners causing a lot of surface turbulence.

      You can buy “no rinse“ rice, Nishiki brand is one that I use when I go camping so I do not have to rinse it.
