    I have the performance model in black, the extra power is amazing and makes joining fast roads with no slip road easy and safe. Its fun to drive, quiet and comfortable, the wheels and lowered suspension make a big difference to appearance in my opinion and to be honest anyone who sees it.

      There was a $3,000 cost to have all the mentioned options plus the added speed. It made me upgrade from the long range. It seemed like a good deal for the money. I would have spent $2,000 or more on a new set of wheels anyway. For $1000 more I have the rear wing, brembo brakes, added speed, track mode and aluminum pedals.

    At 13km in length, Allenwood to Prosperous is probably the longest of these straight avenues in the country. I believe it was the work of Sir Robert Brooke who created the village of Prosperous to be an industrial town. The 1798 rebellion put an end ot that idea.
    The road from Dundrum in Co. Tipperary to Drumbane, near Thurles, is also notably ruler-straight. The product of the Viscounts Hawarden, it's another example of the plantation landlord preference for impractably straight lines on a map, despite the landscape that it's built over. Horse-drawn carriages didn't get bounced around going at the speed-limit, I suppose.
    A worthy mention would be Carrigrohane Straight (N22), to the west of Cork City. At onlyy 4km long, it's not as remarkable as the other two, but it is a stunning stretch regardless. Apparently it was built as a "famine road", a works-scheme during the Great Famine that was a boom-time for construction where the protestant work-ethic forebade the wealthy from donating money to the poor. The poor had to work for it. It is during this time that great boundary walls were constructed around the likes of Carton House, Luttrellstown Castle, Castletown and many others.

    Face-on, the first giveaway is the lower fog-lights. They only come on the dual-motor variants (long-range and performance). The RWD version has black blanking plates in place of the glass fog-lights. So now that you've spotted that the fog-lights are there, you've mentioned the red caliper covers and the spoiler which distinguish the performance from the long-range, but again, as you say, these could be purchased after-market.

    Hi Derek. Having clocked up 16k already on my SMY RWD I would have to say that it would be hard to justify the performance one. The standard delivers huge bang for your buck. Plenty of power as it is, real world 370klms per charge and lots of kit.

    Agree in this era of motorways, where overtaking on single carriageway roads is a lost art so high acceleration has become unnecessary. The fixation on 0-60 acceleration with some brands is pointless and it will never be used nor needed. We don't have the unlimited German autobahns in Ireland, so what's the point. Any 0-60 faster than 8s is snappy enough. BEVs tend to be driven more economically and conservatively than Golf GTI's were.

    • @pato10111
      @pato10111 Před 10 měsíci +1

      I've been travelling from North Wexford to Waterford City regularly over the last week. It's all motorway, bypasses and well surfaced regional roads. A great spin actually. I've been going between a Polestar 2 and an ID4 and while I agree that performance isn't all that important here in Ireland, the 0-60 speed in the Polestar has been great for overtaking slower cars at the beginning of each road and on longer straights. The ID4 is nippy too but on a great road I think the Tesla Performance would be a fair bit of fun and useful to get by cars quickly when overtaking. ICE cars are pretty unsafe by comparison when overtaking.

      I have always owned performance vehicles. I liked my Model 3 Performance so much that I just picked up the Y Performance for my wife. Still holding my BMW M3 and lifted 4Runner. It is hard to argue with the performance from the Tesla. They can outperform a lot of the ICE vehicles costing thousands more. Plus no maintenance is a big plus.

    Purchased new in US, over 3500 miles (+- 5000 km) on the car. Problem is that Tesla gives mileage range going 70 mph/110 km/h (who goes that slow in US?). Real world range at 75 mph/120km/h is only about 240mi (380 km) Highway, driving in chill mode. That is not sufficient for me as I cover large distances for work and play.
    Outside of range, this is an excellent city or highway hauler.

    Before I knew anything about Teslas I always thought some Teslas looked damn cool and that was always the performance ones with those uberturbines. I think the regular ones look so boring but the performance ones just pop.

    Having a RWD M3 I’d say anymore performance isn’t really needed and the ride will probably suffer badly. I have drives a long range and the performance on that was great but I personally wouldn’t need it. The build quality is my biggest grip Teslas still suffer from a lot of internal rattles and squeaks which tend to let them down a bit.
