- Nicholas Ancerl, principal designer at Ancerl Studio, invites us into his own urban oasis. Originally a semi-detached home, Nicholas transformed this unique Toronto property into two narrow homes with exquisite architecture. A nearly 30-foot ceiling features reclaimed wood beams and soaring windows. Nicknamed the ‘Urban Barn’, see the unique features like exposed brick, cold rolled steel, and a contemporary fireplace that’s centred between the kitchen and living room. Step into the modern kitchen where walnut cabinetry acts as a facade to a hidden cook and prep area designed in a black phoenix material.

I especially like this guy and the house is crazy cool; great colors, textures, scale, etc. He gets it all. I didn't understand the reason for the bump out, but appreciate they didn't use every trick in the book to visually widen it. Great honest design work, and no flowery explanations.

I love the sense of intentionality he has discussing the build and the design. And the home is just lovely!
Excellent design! In my humble opinion sitting room, dining room then kitchen is a better flow since I prefer sitting at a table versus an island . But the family does not use the dining room that often so it works for them. Everything is lovely. I love the hidden stove area, the narrow window (light wells) and the placement of the closets.
What a spectacular home! I would be happy to bring two suitcases of my clothes to this home and be happy for the rest of my life! You did a fabulous job. Much happiness to you and your family.

I love your channel and watch everything you ever post in addition to being an interior designer and Israel I watch design shows from Russia, England and many other countries. This is one of the most fabulous houses I have seen in a long time and even though black kitchen is not my personal aesthetic everything else is superbly packed. The juxtaposition of those beams with smooth walls, those thin shelves against gorgeous brick are beyond lovely. Those extra thin windows are superb. Joy, pure joy

It's not easy placing furniture in elongated rooms, but having open without any walls cutting it down does help, including those long narrow windows for light. Very comfortable home.
