  • Killarney Provincial Park - Backcountry Overview. Please join Wayne and Brad Jennings as they paddle and hike their way through Killarney Provincial Park. In his overview video we talk to Outfitters and Park Staff, as we explore the rugged beauty of Killarney. This is one of our original videos, shot as a television pilot during the summer of 2008-09.

    I just noticed this is the same Brad from Explore the Backcountry or I think it is. I love Leah and Brad’s channel and apparently I am working through the videos backwards. LOL

      Yes, you are correct. That is my son Brad from many years ago when we began creating canoe videos together. He sure has come a long way since then!

    Great video, In the process of planning a trip this fall with my son. It will be our 5th trip into Killarney, the first he was only about 6 years old and we were joined with a friend who shared the paddeling up Kirks Creek to Three Narrows for 4 days.. My sons favorite part of that trip was picking the M&Ms out of the gorp. By 8 years old he was handling the front of the canoe as we went from Lake Charletron to Great Mt. and back. A wonderful life long memorable trip. Another trip we were joined by my daughter taking the same trip to Great Mountain and back. Our last trip we were joined with a couple of Andrew's buddies, again going up to Three Narrows. The highlite of that trip was seen a few moose, one of which we were able to get to within a few meters of, a bit too close probably!! This year we are planning to again take the trip to Great mountain then return via Bear Lake , Van winkle, then working our way back to Murray Lake and back. Although it's been about 20 years, it's been at the top of my bucket list and at 73 I guess we had better get it done. I'm already enjoying the planning phase and can't wait to dip the paddle into the beautiful waters of Killarney Park!!! Hopefully we will also be able to share our experience with you and now I have to go for a long walk and start getting into shape for our adventure.

      Hope you have a great trip. Fall is an excellent time to visit Killarney. I’ve probably paddled that park more than any other, but every time I return it’s always a new adventure!

    We fly to Killarney often, best and freshest fish & ships by far. 👌

      Ah...nice. Perhaps you are referring to Herbert's Fish & Chips, down on the dock in the village of Killarney.

    great video, in fall of 2017 I camped on Nellie lake and at night I noticed a good amount of crayfish swimming near the shoreline, have they always been there or are they starting to come back as the lake continues to heal? thanks!

      That is good to see! Perhaps life is slowly coming back to these once ‘dead’ lakes. Thanks for the update.

    what is the wildlife like.
    ?
    do bears frequent the area?

    • @TheOneCanoe
      @TheOneCanoe  Před 8 lety

      +Tim Braithwaite Yes, there are many black bears that call Killarney home. I've been to Killarney at least a dozen times and have seen bears on at least 9 trips there. We've seen them along the highway on our ride into the park and often we encounter them along the shoreline as we paddle by in our canoe, but I've also seen them while at camp, usually foraging on the opposite shoreline (thankfully). We've also run across bear scat and paw prints on some of the portages.

      @@TheOneCanoe Good times, good laughs! I guess I was paying close attention to the signage because it has become quite a bit more intrusive since I was last in a Canadian provincial park 25 years ago. I prefer something a bit more subtle...
