It very well could be a re-badged Crosstour camera. I’ve noticed a lot of these Chinese action cameras have been engineered by one company but then re-branded and sold by other companies often with only minor cosmetic changes.

@@TheOneCanoe Yepp. I actually like my CT8500 quite a lot. I paid some €15 or so on Ebay for it second hand. It's brittle but does a reasonable job in good light. The EIS tries to stick to certain frames which make the videos look a bit weird, but hey: It's a working EIS in a cheapo cam! Audio is pretty poor, though. Even on external mics. I also have a CT9500, which is a completely different beastie. Much better video quality, much better EIS. The colours tend to drift in changing light conditions which can be a real pain. Thankfully these colour drifts are fairly easy to fix in Flowblade, the video editing software I learn to use. I think that really usable action cameras start with the CT9500. So far, I have no video worthy of uploading, but I do intend to get my channel a bit more alive! ☺

Yes, we paddled back the same way up to Giroux Lake where we had left our vehicle. We took this journey several years ago, so I’m not sure what current water conditions such as beaver dams and water levels or log jams are like, but at the time of our journey we had no issue with currents or obstructions.

I’ve used mine several times this summer and so far it seems to be holding up well. I like your idea of using the piece of carpet…I’ll have to try that one. Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, on a warm, sunny (bug-free) day it is indeed a place where you could just sit and relax for hours.

Ya, mine has the bad seat. I use a small piece of plywood to ‘stiffen’ the back rest. One of these days I think I’ll just replace the whole seat.

I am not familiar with the Pelican Mist model. That sounds pretty bad if you had to add outriggers. I’m very happy with my purchase of the Pelican Sentinal 100 and find it to be a very stable boat, even in rough water.

No, I have not tried to take the tent off while erected and place it back on. I don’t think it would be very easy because of all the tie down straps especially the tail gate straps might be hard to remove. I have not tried driving with the tent set up, but at low speed (say within a provincial park, heading to the wood shed and back) it would probably be possible.

It is located in the 'sub-menu' (in the main menu, click the gear icon on the right) Scroll down until you see it. It should be located between the 'Effect' and the 'Diving Mode' selecdtions.

It does not ‘follow’ you. There is no auto tracking feature. You have to hold it and point it at whatever you want the lens to see.

I think the main advantage is it gets you up, off the ground. You have a level, stable floor with no twigs or stones poking you from below. There is probably less chance of crawling insects getting in and around your tent and in my case, my truck has a power outlet at the back of the box so I can be charging a phone or camera battery while in the tent.

@@TheOneCanoe downside is a tent on the ground can be left behind when you do multi day camping at the same site, car one has to be set up every time again. The ones that can be mounted to the roof/truckbed and spring with less set-up time would be somewhat faster and safe time (hard to air out and more weight/less aerodynamic as cons).

@@mickeytadadam All valid points. Certainly you want to choose a tent based on your needs. The main reason I purchased a truck tent was for an upcoming long distance road trip down east, where we would be stopping and camping along the way and avoiding expensive motels.

Yes indeed, a dehydrator is a really good option. We use them all the time, especially on our longer backcountry adventures, but these pre-packaged, freeze dried dinners are great choices for a last-minute weekend get away. I always pack one on any trip as an emergency back-up meal.
