    You have exceptional fabrication skills. Wow these are rugged! While I would have made a larger contact patch and less inclined area at the front of each track and I would have built it out of much lighter steel as these are only going on an ATV, 4mm thick steel would be adequate with gussets.

    i watched all five videos. awesome job. i was wondering how you joined the two ends of the rubber track? i planning on building and snow bike out of my dirt bike. and using an old truck tire for track. aldo do you think I'd have a problem running the steel bars you used on the inside of the track instead of on the outside? this would allow me to run it on the street if i need too.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  Před 8 lety +2

      +John Chassie-Rideout I just overlapped the ends. Better way to go for a fast dirt bike is using a snow mobile track. Basically you can attach the lugs in the inside of the truck tire but you don't have much grip in the snow then (in my opinion :P).

    yes in deed Donn I do think thay would work well on a car or truck! ....... if you think the spacers between the spindle and sprocket might be too week to carry the weight, just remove the spacers and replace them with the rim the car/truck uses now and adjust and weld the rim to the sprocket .....that would do the trick for sure aye!

    i just watched the last video again i see how you joined the track now. bit would the metal attached to the track pose a problem if i put it on the inside of the track. one other question. how would i ste the spacing for those metal track peices to match the drive cog?

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  Před 8 lety

      +John Chassie-Rideout I've done a version of a dirt bike track using an old tire without cutting it up. It is p.i.a.. You'd have to measure the inside and divide the result into whatever spacing you consider acceptable. And then fabricate a drive cog. But it's doable.

    Amazing job my man, I was just wondering if you shouldn't have had the the track double over itself where the two ends meet? It looks to me like you only have the one row of bolts in it, maybe before it's to late try to over lap it a wee bit more before it lets go on you. I wish I would have made a video of the ones I built. I have been running them for two years now. I had one outer belt rip, this I s why I am bringing it up to you. We have pretty much everything else the same. I am going to build a set for my 3/4 ton Dodge 2500. I do off road recovery and a set on my truck would be the cats meow. If you don't mind how many hours are you into your build? I was about 50 hours making mine. I made everything from scratch, without a lathe....LoL I had a cost of $600.00 Canadian when I was finished. My next set I built will be able to rock both ways instead of just the fronts, I have been in a couple tight spots and it would make a huge difference if the rear of the system was set up to pivot like the front. Once again, I am very impressed and not bashing on you at all, just making a couple pointers on where I went wrong....LOL Best of luck my friend and can't wait to see them in action. Oh where bouts are you from?

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  Před 9 lety

      lakerdrinker Hi. Thanks! I'll make a clamp that disperses the stretch more evenly on the belt connection. That'll do for starters I guess. I've built few similar tracks before and fortunately haven't had any issues with the overlapping conveyor belt. Thanks for the input. The pointers are in their right place.
      Mine took 4 times more - about 200 hours, but lots of it was brainstorming, standing and staring at the project. With the rocking - I went the standard way like they use on Tatou. It does not grip so good on humps since the tracks will not rock towards the ATV and will not copy the terrain correctly. They pretty much work at maximum performance while going through some ditches or similar.
      Thank you for the good wishes! Nice to talk to people with common interests and know-how. Btw, I'm from Estonia, Europe. ;)
