I'm watching some of these wilderness camping vids where some are bringing so much stuff it's getting ridiculous. The hot tents are really interesting, but one had a pack about as big as himself! Or packing massive axes and saws but doing limited cutting. Another brought a huge glass bottle of Worcestershire sauce for a few splashes. I'm liking this realistic, thought-out approach. The 2-tarp shelters are appealing to me though.

I’m very new to the bushcraft scene and that is all thanks to you and these videos. Being new to the wilderness and a born city boy, I hate sleeping on the ground. The cushier, the better. This video was exactly what I’ve been waiting for. I knew I could build an improvised platform but wanted to see the corporal’s example of one over any other. You inspired me to learn about basic knots and wilderness survival and actually take my first overnight trip with minimal (40 liter pack. Like I said, cushy.) gear. I hope you see this and I hope you don’t stop these videos any time soon. Thanks corporal, for everything. And thank you for you service. Salute.

I think that one of the things I like about all these videos is that, no matter how many times he does it, the Corporal _always_ shows himself doing the same things. He always shows himself raking up leaves (when applicable). He builds his fires the same way. He ties the same knots. He cuts logs the same way, and so on. It really does cut back to the idea that repetition builds that muscle memory, even if we aren't actually doing these things ourselves. If we ever needed to build a fire, we could say, "How does the Corporal build a fire?" and reliably build one because we've seen it done that way so many times. We could ask ourselves, "How would the Corporal build a shelter?" and at least know a few ways to sensibly start building.
More importantly, it makes all of this look as though it's not hard. Not necessarily that it's easy - after all, Corporal Kelly's done this stuff dozens or hundreds of times - but that it's not hard, and because it's not hard, any one of us could do this too. It makes camping feel approachable.

Looking at the comments below it appears quarantine has created more trolls than thoughtful viewers appreciative of your skills and experiences. Somebody griped about the overnighters but that is my favorite segment, along with the cooking and the entire camping bushcraft experience. I figure your detractors haven't really been camping, or what I would call it. It seems that episodes that are favorites of the majority are a blemish to others. If they don't like it why bother with bushcraft at all? There is a lot of room for variety. I just watched an English fellow prepare a full English Breakfast on a piece of slate! Another fellow is making an entire little homestead out of crap he finds in the forest. I must say you resonate with me more than the other channels, and I love what you are doing. A working man usually has a hard time finding time for anything and your approach balances solitude, self-reliance, and skills, just what I need. If a few aren't happy, well, isn't that the norm? Been watching your channel for a while and I cannot remember. What about an old school 1800s survival challenge with just perhaps an axe or a knife how would you combat that. That would totally be a lot of effort I am sure that would be educational to know how much effort it took back in the day how the pioneers or Trappers survived back in the day.🤔 I am sure it was probably very difficult foraging for food and making shelter by horseback every couple of days.

That was a lot of work but the rewards made it worth the effort. Man, that's improvising and creativity at its best! That bacon and egg pie looked incredibly delicious but I think my heart stents fluttered some so I have to make more heart-healthy options. I think you've accomplished several goals with your videos including inspiring us to get off the couch, get outside and breathe the fresh air and to think outside of the proverbial box. Life is way too short and we're all vulnerable as this maddening crisis has taught us. Live life to the fullest today because tomorrow may just be a dream. I absolutely concur with your assessment of the Thermarest. I used one for 1400 miles on the Appalachian Trail and in my hammock it was great. On the cold, hard boards of the shelters it was like sleeping on nothing, except that it did keep me insulated, but it did nothing to alleviate pressure points under bony prominences.

Another outstanding meal - enough for an axe-logger after a 10h-shift! If you ever wondered, why you weigh 240 pounds in a 180 pounds figure, watch your videos yourself LOL.
Your ridgeline design is very convenient - easy to set up, easy to take down as well - outstanding!
If you are short on cordage, cut four more poles, sharpen one end and support the stretchers right at the trees, so the poles are taking the weight - you only need one single round of cordage then to keep everything in place.
    Stay safe and keep on

Yeah, you can even etch in a little groove on the top so it supports them more securely - it's a few mins extra work, but I barely see anyone doing it. So much faith in the cordage... I wouldn't risk it.
