    • @simonjrgensen6761
      @simonjrgensen6761 Před 7 lety +12

      Jumpan23 #GOAT Several reasons. Football is a more popular among people with an Afircan ethnicity, many of them come from a poor background that makes them fight even harder to reach the top than many white people and of course their physical attributes give them an advantage but that is exactly my point. The physical attributes have proved to be less important if you don't combine them with the French ability to develop top players. If it was just physical attributes that decided how good of a football you could become then Senegal, Ghana etc would be the best in the world but they aren't. You need to give a lot of credit to France's ability to develop players.

    I don't get how people confuse ethnicity and nationalities. Most countries do not define themselves by their ethnic background. If you take France, the current population have very varied ethnic origins. A son of a second generation Algerian born in France is not less or more French than the great grand son of an italian immigrant from the early 20th century.
    The common aspect in football is that all of them received their football education and grew up in what they consider their home country. Of course they will have different family history.
    But, thinking that every football player with dual citizenship make an opportunistic choice when to choose the country he will represent, is very short sighted. For most it comes as a natural decision. Either representing your home or honoring the origin or your family. Both choices are respectable.

    • @daretozlatan9667

      Omar Benitez I don't think its a matter of pride or shame, I just think that most players who aren't that good will play for the country that gives them more starts and minutes on the pitch. And the truly great players like Zidane will play for the country that gives them the chance of winning more silverware. Besides, why rob the viewers around the world of the chance to see these great players competing at the highest level so they could instead waste away playing for some north African shithole?

      @ZhangtheGreat Před 5 lety

      There's no shame at all. Some people choose not to for practical reasons. Some athletes receive better support, training, etc., from their adoptive countries than their birth nations. Sometimes, an athlete isn't wanted by their country's national team, and in order to further their careers or realize their dreams of playing at the international level, they choose to represent their adoptive nations.
