This superb bowler took 355 and 400 wickets in Test Matches and ODIs and out of these 9 wickets came from Sachin Tendulkar.

I was also a left arm medium pace bowler and my idols were Zaheer Khan, Wasim Akram and Chaminda Vaas and in my locality while playing cricket my friends use to call me by name of Vaas and I always used to feel happy and on cloud nine that I was called by name of one of my cricketing idol The Legendary Chaminda Vaas. Vaas has a terrific record against the right handed batsmen including the great Sachin Tendulkar. Absolutely impressive
Look at his record against Chris Gayle in Test Matches. He has scored only 10 runs against him, and got out 7 times, including 5 ducks in one series.
In ODI cricket, Brian Lara only scored 3 runs against him, and was out 3 times.
Chaminda Vaas .. used to strike in the first few overs. Sachin and Ganguly were careful in the first spell of Vaas. I remember Vaas took Ganguly's wicket on the first ball of the match in an ODI. Long serving legend for Srilanka. A real work horse. Respect. 😊

His first over is like a sword that can cut through armour. Only few could survive.
We talk about Akram as the greatest left arm fast bowler, but he was my favourite. With medium pace he used to trouble the batsman. I still remember he didn't allow Aussies to score 7 runs in the final over in 2004, he defended it. Master

Vaas was one of those bowlers who would never display any flair, aggression or any other distraction.. Just would keep on bowling line and length with medium pacers. Most batsmen would get themselves out, out of sheer frustration of not scoring fluently

I am not a Sri Lankan so this may sound strange. But I remember all these wickets. The best Sri Lankan era was Jayasuriya, Dilshan, Sangakkara, Jayawardena, Chandimal, Matthews, Arnold, Upul Chandana, VAAS, Murali & Malinga

Facing Vaas with the new ball must have been a nightmare to every batsmen. No pace and still he will get you out without much effort. Deadly accuracy and swing. You cannot a play a shot or defend with confidence when the ball is swinging in the first seven overs. You will get bowled, lbw, caught behind or bowl and caught by Vaas.

Huge respect to Vaas, he was a wicket taker in spite of no much pace, height and bowling on sub continental pitches mostly.
I see only one dismissal (LBW) was wicket taking and all other 5 were Sachin simply throwing away his wickets and Sachin had no option other than to attack.
I remember as an Indian fan of 1990's, India used to a have a lot of pressure to score quick runs and set large targets and Sachin Tendulakar used to be key in doing that, especially against Sri Lanka considering the fact that Jayasuriya used to smash the totals in less time. Batting first, against Sri Lanka of 1997-1999, if you were posting modest totals like 220-230, the outcome is mostly decided by end of your batting innings.
It was a familiar sight that Jayasuriya scores 50 runs in 5 overs, 150 in 20 overs and then gets out. Then Ranatunga comes and just walk for runs, instead of run for runs for the rest of 80 runs with 30 overs in hand.
But thing started changing when zaheer ,nahera and bhaji in middle of bowling... India save modest total against srilanka successful...
He always had the habit of taking crucial wickets at any given time, we love u vaas

Not a single dismissal was impressive. In all the dismissals, Sachin got out attacking vaas. Beautiful deliveries are those where the batsman gets out even when he is defending and not willing to give his wicket away. Even an all-rounder like Abdul Razzaq has better dismissals of Sachin than vaas.

Most top batsmen are vulnerable to swinging balls on both sides!!!. Sachin sometimes try to execute the shot so early, that's where his mistake lies!!!. Because you can't judge the ball so early, if it's swinging both ways!!!. Vaas was exceptional from Sri Lanka. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.
