Secondly, t20 started in 2005-06, many players from the 90s and early 2000s were in the later years of their career so it was almost impossible to adapt to a new format. But despite that he was the orange cap winner in IPL 2010 at the age of about 37.

After 175 tests he was almost averaging 57 after that innings.
He wanted to play 200 matches for India. Which meant that in the next 25 matches he will score only 1 hundred and his career average dropped substantially. He ended up with a career avg of 53.xx.
We all wanted him to play 200 or even more matches because we just wanted his presence in as many matches as possible for him. Not for tons everytime since he had already had enough of them. He was our lad of teens even at his 40s. No other sportsman of India could give the level of emotion and entertainment that he could . In those days we never bothered about wins as our bowling attack was very weak. So, we just wanted him, the youngest of the team though for most of his career, to show his capable respite and courage against some fierce attacks of bowling. Up to 2000s, fans were not that insane of reckoning averages. Otherwise, we would not have that craze for Srikkant or Kapil before Sachin. A well built, 6 foot batter can hit a six with ease. No wonder. But, if our little lad Sachin hit the same, it became an amazing display for us. We were more emotionally connected with him, not statistically. Had the other greats, mostly his seniors, showed the same consistency, commitment and spirit like him, and had our bowling been more reliable, we could have won more matches. But, many thanks to Sachin that he could produce at least a high level of entertainment for our generation to cherish for lifelong.

This was the best Test series in history for India against South Africa in their den. And I still remember that India bravely ended this epic series with draw 1-1 level in three test matches rivalary. If I was not wrong, first test won by Africa, 2nd test was tied, and last 3rd Test India finally won. This series was draw. India had came to play in Africa on Greme Smith leading Africa which was their prime team ever, even that time nobody could win a Test series in South Africa. Not even Australia or England also. Today's IPL kids don't know how much dominating that South Africa team was. An absolute nightmare.
