I have the black polymer, and it's become my FAVORITE sidearm. I use .410 triple buck loads, and it's the best racoon gun to protect my chickens that I've ever used. Last fall, I took out the biggest racoon (55 lbs) I've ever dealt with, running with a chicken in his mouth, with a single shot. Hit him in the back end, and one of the balls actually went completely through, and took his bottom jaw off. The chicken was gone, but so was the biggest racoon I've ever encountered - one shot.
most of the guns i own arent practical...

If only someone would make a 410 “BANG” flag round, the circle of life would be complete!
Oh shit that wont be hard
Attach the flag to a roughly half inch dowel and launch it with just 2 grains, tie a string from it to the frame so it doesnt fly out
Huh, what's that supposed to be, a incendiary 410 shot?
Crap, didn't read the flag part, still, a Dragon's Breath 410 would be cool, if a bit impractical
.410 dragon breath exists, but it's extremely underwhelming compared to 12 gauge. Not worth the money or the fouling of the gun.
@@herbderbler1585 honestly I've never had that problem. There always seems to be less gunk on my pads after I shoot dragons breath than normal rounds tbh. Almost like all that heat flying through there helps to clear it out some

The Taurus Judge is my favorite handgun that I own. Crisp trigger pull, easy to clean, and the fact that I just love 45Long Colt and .410g makes it a dream come true
The Judge in metal frame is one of my favorite guns to have and shoot. Don't be shitting on my Taurus Judge, Daisy Duke wearing M/F. lol I feel better now. Thanks Man
I kind of disagree but kind of agree. The governor is a way nicer trigger. One round it in the cylinder different and a lighter trigger pull is not debatable. Not for the extra 300 bones. The judge is fun to shoot though, I have yet to meet anybody who didn’t like feeling the difference between the shot shell, and the Long colt rounds.
To you yes, but most of us are cheap bastards....
The speedloader issue is why I cut out the grip on my Taurus Judge. With the cut out I made on the grip, it works quite well with a speedloader of .45 Colt.
”which is how far the FBI tells us we’re supposed to shoot somebody from ” 😆
I'm glad you gave the gentleman's caliber (410 out a handgun) a fair review. Truly is a gun for the refined. With it's almost manageable recoil and its ability to not only pepper the bad guy ,as well as every innocent person in the room . This is truly a gun for those of a worldly and classy character.
As an owner of a Raging Judge Magnum and having owned the standard 3 inch model Judge and the 6 1/2 inch Judge.. The biggest thing I see is people dont seem to understand a few points about the Judge. It's a versatile weapon, it's decent at a lot of things but not amazing at any one particular thing amazingly. You raised a lot of points about the Judge I would have raised such as the "defensive load" selection as well as using a speed strip vs a speed loader.
The friction issue can happen with any revolver but those polymer framed ones are more prone to it than others and they cant take as much punishment before something goes wrong. Usually what I've seen is cylinders cracking or frames cracking but issues could potentially be a lot worse. Which is one pro to picking the Judge with the standard steel frame vs the polymer framed model as well as the Governor even. It's more durable.
A lot of the times when people tested Judges they didnt use handgun specific loadings and expected it to perform well with rounds intended for full length shotguns, or they test the ultra gimmicky crap like that PDX-1 stuff. The Triple Defense used to spread MUCH farther with the buckshot from the slug impact point, so it looks like Hornady has improved their shotcup and it doesnt spread as far, but even that... like you said 4 pellets of 00 or 000 Buck would do you better. But a big thing people also do is shoot them at typical pistol distances and also expect good results. On the close end, most people test at 7 yards and go out as far as 25 with handguns. The Judge is more of a 5 yard to 15 yard gun with the Public Defender or the standard 3 inch Judge. The 6 1/2 model definitely helps with some accuracy at range but still not a 25 yard gun for the most part. With some slugs and .45 Colt though it gets acceptable groups.
But saying slugs are some of the worst... Not really. In a 3 inch Judge a 1/4 oz 2 1/2 inch slug is pushing out of there at around 1,300+ fps depending on who loaded it. A 1/4 oz is a 109gr and just shy of a 110gr projectile. At the typical velocities it achieves 400+ ft lbs is reasonable to expect from it. Even accuracy is good with them, I've not seen my Judge randomly throw a shot. If a shot was thrown like that it was always me. That being said... even if that first shot for whatever reason magically throws itself, clearly the others went right where you needed them and in a hurry thats not going to be a problem. A .45 Colt load on average has less power than a .410 slug, however either option for a solid projectile is going to work and work well in most situations.
While I feel for defensive carry buckshot isnt the best option for potential liability reasons.. At the distances the Judge is likely to be used at which is likely to be contact range or damn near contact range buckshot wont spread enough to cause that risk but it will penetrate enough to be of risk to the person in front of it. I would say be mindful of using buckshot when on the go as there could be risks however if you are mindful of where the Judge is meant to perform and more importantly how your particular Judge performs this may still work for you.
While you may be served better from purely a defensive standpoint by other options than the Judge... it's as you said. The Judge makes for a good snake gun. So you could simply take the same gun and go outdoors with it and only change the ammo type. It's a well known fact the "Shot Shell" pistol loads from CCI are hot garbage and a dedicated .410 birdshot load will always outperform it. But maybe not just snakes but varmints in general, the Judge can still go out there. If you have the longer barrel models you CAN even hunt with them and it's not as ineffective as you'd think. As I said... It's versatile. It's not horrible at self defense but better options exist but it can do things typical defensive pistols cant. There are even companies that load .410 flares so if it's an emergency you have a flare gun as well as a handgun.
I do love the Judge's I've owned and shot but I'm aware of their limitations. People just dont often give them a serious look online or even try to see what it is actually capable of. Now, the Raging Judge is a different animal completely though but even it often gets lumped in there with the regular Judge's.
I would have given the raging judge and the ilk a lot more credit if it could run 460 it at least 454 given the length and bore. The power comparisons don't make much sense when you look at the frame and the like and realize that if you're comparing cartridges to cartridges in that bore, you'll be up against something that will drive 200grains 2200fps out of an 8 inch barrel and be accurate to a few hundred yards.
I have and very much enjoy my 454 raging bull and if it was the same but with the added ability to run 410, that sounds great. For whatever reason though, i keep hearing these are only able to run up to 45lc pressures and aren't very accurate. That's honestly the big problem. Even this review seems to say the same. Needs to be tougher and more accurate to go from meme to tool imho.
... Wait, are you saying your they're actually accurate in a 6" barrel? How's the patterning with #4 at 10yrds?
@@CtrlAltRetreat The Raging Judge can handle the .454 Casull just fine... Shot hundreds of rounds of it and it's been doing fine. Now, there was a Raging Judge Ultra Lite that was out real briefly that was stamped with .454 on the barrel but was never meant to be used with .454 Casull. It was a 7 shot cylinder on the Raging Judge frame meant for .45 Colt and .410 Only. There's the Judge Magnum which is the regular Judge which has a 3 inch chamber but otherwise is identical to the standard Judge in every possible way.
I've shot .454 Raging Bulls, it's on that same frame but a 6 shot instead of 5, can run up to 3 inch .410 shells in addition to .45 Colt and .454 Casull. That is what the Raging Judge Magnum is. As far as accuracy goes, while I havent fully stretched it legs in terms of "how far can it go" I've not had accuracy issues out to 30 yards with anything other than some buckshot loads as frankly even in most shotguns 30 yards you tend to see bad patterns without some kind of choke.
What I am saying about the Judge family as a whole is that I noticed between the 3 inch barrel model and the 6 1/2 inch I did get better patterns at distance with buckshot and slightly tighter patterns with .45 Colt and .410. The longest shot I made with the 6 1/2 inch Judge and Buckshot was about 20 to 22 yards using Federal 000 Buck 3 inch handgun loads. About a 4 inch spread max. I was out of the #4 Buck at the time, but at 10 yards I dont see the #4 Buck being bad. Now if you mean #4 Bird, I'd always found most bird loads to spread real harshly in the Judge regardless of barrel length, though the again the longer barrels do help keep them tighter. Federal also makes a handgun specific #4 bird load that like the Buck is going to pattern fairly tightly. Maybe a 2 inch, to 2 1/2 inch at 10 yards in a 6 1/2 inch but that's just guessing as it's been a long time since I've used that particular load.
As far as toughness goes... compared to the Governor the Judge actually has a more rigid frame. As far as accuracy goes, like I said above before... I've never had my Judge just "sling" a round way off like that unless it was my own doing with poor trigger control. While I've seen guns that are more accurate, for the most part it's keeping paces with most handguns especially when looking at .45 Colt and .410 slug loads. The Buck/Bird shot part is the novelty factor generally speaking however it does open up doors for other uses where most standard pistols would fail.
I even have the Circuit Judge made under the Rossi brand. It's the carbine/shotgun model with a stock and fore end. It comes with 2 chokes, a smooth choke for slugs/.45 colt and a modified choke for buck/bird. It has the same semi rifling and everything as the Judge, mine has a nicer trigger and it's noticeable, but that longer barrel really helps with the patterns a lot on the buck/bird loads and that regardless of which choke you use. The dedicated one for buck/bird is better than the smooth one for slugs/.45 colt but it's still tighter than even a 6 1/2 inch Judge. I believe a lot of it just comes down to giving the shells enough time to burn all their powder off and hit terminal performance but could be wrong. I guess ultimately what I'm getting at is each Judge and respective barrel length has a maximum distance where "X", performs and people often just disregard that or are ignorant to what those distances are when they review them. But as I said also, it is versatile and can do a lot of things but doesnt do any one particular thing extremely well and thus it's a Jack Of All Trades.
@@Predalien195
You're making me seriously consider a new purchase. That second paragraph confused me though, my 454 bull I'm pretty sure has Chambers too short for 410. There was an ultra light model? That piques my interest too. I have a tracker titanium in 357 and it is quite a nice gun but had timing issues cutting bullets and spitting lead back at me after about two years (actually made me go back to paying full for Smiths for my next few guns). I always liked Taurus for innovative revolver designs and cost efficiency.
Sounds like the raging judge is s raging bull with longer cylinders. I need to see if anyone has any vids up of accuracy at range and if there's a model with the rails milled into the top strap. The clamp on pic rail system sometimes slipped a bit under recoil. I usually shoot targets at 250yards with mine and if the judge can do the same, having one that can hunt and still do snake gun duty might be a straight upgrade. Would be even better if they made it 460 capable at the same time.
4"pattern at 22 yards is quite serviceable. 000 would be a fantastic home defense load with that sort of accuracy in a handgun platform. I daresay it sounds close to optimal in case of close quarters against non armored Invaders. You've convinced me to start researching Taurus offerings... Though being in California, that usually means slim pickings. At least it doesn't have that micro stamping requirement bs so it's possibly registered for sale in the state
@@CtrlAltRetreat The Raging Judge Magnum is yes essentially a Raging Bull with longer cylinders. Though it holds 6 shots instead of the 5 on the .454 Raging Bull. The Ultra Lite model is something I've been trying to hunt down myself. I've seen a few pop up from time to time, even though it says .454 Casull/.45 Colt/.410 on the chambering it cant handle .454 Casull. But a 7 shot .45 Colt/.410 revolver would be awesome which is why I want it. According to specs, the Ultra Lite weighs as much or within a few ounces of the 6 1/2 inch all steel Judge model. Which would be worth it for sure.
I dont think there are many videos up about long range performance given that 90% of people consider them to be memes and the likes. But there may be some out there. A .460 would be nice, though not sure if they'd ever do it. I know they did a limited run on Raging Bulls in .500 Magnum, so no reason they couldnt do that.
@@Predalien195
Honestly i didn't take it seriously because i assumed it would be a meme too. Hearing from you is what is making me reconsider. It's a pity that they didn't do 460 because that's an easy and interesting quad caliber gun. It would also have some interesting potential for wild cat shot loads out of a hand gun.

@@thedriver5462 - Over a LONG LEO career (and a tendency to otherwise be in entirely the wrong place at the wrong time) I have pointed guns at a LOT of people with full intention of making holes therein. Funny thing, MOST people (exceptions exist obviously) start having second thoughts about their actions when looking down a gun barrel. Put a round in them and they more often than not SERIOUSLY begin looking for an escape route (assuming ... well ... you know). But animals don't give up when you point a gun. Often shooting them just makes them even MORE determined to do you harm unless you put them down hard and fast. So, short version: I totally agree with you. FWIW, I am an avid dog fan, but I've had to deal with feral dogs a few times. Feral dogs are very, very dangerous because they have no real fear of people, might even have some compulsion to be near humans, but will attack savagely. What was that around the belly holster he used for the judge and extra ammo at the 6:20 mark?
It's a taurus. I shudder to think what the internals look like.
You should have tried wax slugs or cut shells
I have an old Leinad .410/45LC double-barrel derringer with 10.5" barrels. Fit and finish is prison workshop level, but the craggy welds that hold it together are STRONG, and I have no fear that it will fail with any .410 load on the market. Any .45 LC or .410 handgun load is easy to handle. The SHTF load of two 3" 5-000 Buck shells is a palm breaker. The five .36 cal balls come roaring out of each of those long barrels. They're still ultrasonic at 7 yards (1020-1080) fps. That's the muzzle energy of five .380 auto rounds delivered simultaneously with each shot. The last six inches of the barrels is rifled, so the gun gets the most out of .45 LC. In a pinch one can also hammer a hole in an assailant's head with the thing. Now, that's what I call versatility!
Excellent review. You're making me think....and that can hurt sometimes.....
Dude, just saying, you should be a little gentler with the crane on those revolvers....
babying guns is for babies.
A. a high quality gun (not that what he showed was high quality) can handle abuse.
B. ppl seem to never realise parts are easy and cheap to buy.
Made me cringe....
friartuck103 Taurus guns are a bit like AKs. Treat them like a dirty whore. They like it rough
KillerVzTwo Gaming some guns you have to baby. Some guns you don’t. This is not a babying gun. So yeah
Nah. -Hop
This guy does every revolver sin there is.
I had both of them and I had a lot of trouble with the steal one. I got it used at a gun show and it would push the cylinder off when you tried to push the shells out. I sent it back to Taurus for repair and they said they fixed it but they didn’t. I sent it back and they said they fixed it again but they didn’t. I took it to the gun show and sold it to a guy who works on guns and he said he knew what he had to do with it.
The poly one has been great but I had to replace the grip on it to a longer grip. No problems other than that
I use the full size one for working in the woods and atv riding. excellent snake gun. couldn't ask for a better one. I love the judge.
Hey Hop, if you're here making videos, who's hunting down John Connor?
You do realize they made thousands of him right🤣
I think if you need a judge for defense from a snake then you probably have alot more problems then just snakes.
You can have the same effect with a 45 colt cci shotshell... Or a 357 or a 44 mag... Or a 45 acp
I'm looking at grabbing one as a grouse gun when in the backcountry. I have killed grouse with rocks when I didn't have a weapon. This will be a great addition to my backpack!
I picked this gun up last week. I already have a gun for almost any purpose, I just picked it up because I figured it would be fun. The short grip feels like I'm slapping a brick. I used some Hornady defense ammo. Fun gun, I didn't expect much but the ability to generate multiple wound channels is good to have. My only problem is it sometimes doesn't want open the cylinder, a quick slap on the side of the cylinder does the trick.
This is a legitimately deadly Nerf gun
Lol that gives me an idea....
5:53 I can't believe you did that. Lost all your credibility as a gun reviewer.
It's a Taurus, my dude. -Hop
I agree there's nothing wrong with that! Do it all the time, I have no polymer to worried about cracking. My judge is a beast!

Suggested role/ammo: Snakes: birdshot; CC (where you can't risk multi projectiles in public): Lehigh Defense Maximum Expansion .45 Colt. These will only load into long chambered .45's like Judge, Gov., etc.; Home Defense: Federal 000 Buck "handgun variety". Decent pattern with 4 .36 cal balls with 1 pull of the trigger. After that, your hearing is reduced from the blast and night vision (assuming home invasion at night) is ruined. You get 4 chances to hit a vital area on a mobile intruder (he isn't going to stand still like a target at the gun range) vs. 1 shot from a 9 or 45. In either scenario, your senses are diminished after that 1st shot indoors. Not an awesome choice, but a fairly versatile firearm with the various types of ammunition available.
Hop, you kill it in making content.
Oh hell yeah Hop is back!
Had this Pawn Shop I'd visit every Blue Moon. Small place and the prices were so-so but one never knows. The old fellow and his wif running the place obviously did not remember me because the five or six times I went in resulted in them dragging out a Judge and a paper target slathered in Birdshot holes telling me what a great Defensive firearm it was. Wild guess is they got a couple in Auction and were desperate to dump them and figured, because of my looks, and the persona I use in Public, I'd be an easy sucker to dump one on.
