At 7:18 in the breakdown and 8:50 & 9:48 in the Playalong, instead of reaching to bar the 2nd fret again, like he does after "... Elliott said I think more than once that after becoming famous he hated being interviewed because the questions were not really about things he wanted to talk about, and now that finally the conversation about Elliott influence has gotten out the academic rooms into the world (youtube) I can see what other things he could be asked about, and why there’s really an effort for society to repair in some way people like Elliott, with for example making a Ferdinand movie that now little kids can watch. The thing is that education is not only a business is something that reflects a whole society and that’s where money turns evil so yes, all this technology and power of communications technologies is really the big nothing of our days, and this is me saying that a personality like Elliott should of never depart this world before his time, shame on our society that is taking its sweet time to still realize.
Your work, research, and guitar interpretations are not only of very high quality, but I also find that they are naturally animated by an authentic spirit, likely close to Elliott's and, I hope, to that of his fans. Elliott is in my heart for eternity; his songs are magnificent, but they become even more beautiful when you know how to play them on the guitar. Thanks you for your videos.

The ending of The Biggest Lie comes to mind: “oh we’re so very special you and I, and everything that you do makes me wanna die. i think in the part right after "no one to stop you" elliott used to play that minor shape then pull the entire shape back to the 2nd fret, instead of what you do where you repeat it from the first time around where you just stretch with your index finger back to the 2nd fret 6th string. at least that's how i like to play it, i alternate those shapes. alos, this series is absolutely amazing and you should make it your life's work to capture all of elliotts music in this manner :)

The song is a juxtaposition of feeling alienated by the goings-on of "normal" society and an underlying, deeper existential angst. You CAN do what you want to, probably even against societal expectations, but in the end it doesn't mean anything (because nothing means anything). The title of EIther/Or is taken from a Søren Kierkegaard book. He's considered the first existentialist philosopher and an interesting figure in his own right.
amazing video as usual! contradictions don't make sense in our minds, or may not seem like a natural thought process, but they actually are when you think of it (or should be). We often push away our desires because of fear. We don't go talk to the cute girl because we are scared of rejection, we don't want to take any big risks in our lives because we could be left with nothing. Living in your comfort zone is fine and one can have a nice life, but you can only truly experience life when you embrace the contradictions in your mind, embrace fear, seek discomfort to learn more, and grow. When you purposefully live by contradictions I believe you will be more fulfilled at the end of the day. Even if it's scary or uncomfortable, take the job, go on the run in the cold, study harder, sacrifice, talk to the cute girl. Slowly it is your fears that will become the 'BIG NOTHING' and you will be able to 'do what you want to whenever you want to'! Maybe Elliott meant it this way, but i doubt it (perhaps only my interpretation)

The ambiguity in Elliotts music is what people who dismiss it as miserable don’t see, it’s like someone looking at an optical illusion who can only see one thing. I think it says more about them than it does the music, almost revealing how they see themselves or the world, rather than Elliotts clearly hyper nuanced view. Once you see the kaleidoscope of emotion, thoughts and perspectives in his music, you can’t not see it, it’s multidimensional. No wonder people get lost in his music.
In terms of which interpretation is "correct". Both are, art is obviously in the eye of the beholder, as well as its meaning, it can be a stupid thing, a super serious thing, a "bad" interpretation, a "good" interpretation. What ultimately matters is your own takeaway from art, you can obviously discuss it with other people and get a bigger picture. But you know art is just as meaningful as it is meaningless, a nice contradiction.
