The beautiful legendary voices of Dr G.T. (Dad) and Mrs Lena (Mom) Speer are engraved in the history of Gospel music and a legacy carried on by their children and grandchildren

What a Joy to know that the precious Speer Family are all together singing in that heavenly land. We said good bye to Ben last year and now their all home singing around God's throne. We will see them again and sing praises together "When all God's Singers Get Home."

Dale was the lead for the Dixie Echos in the 60s, and maybe in the decades before and after.

Larry Ford, my favorite tenor, was also in the Dixie Echoes in a similar time frame.

Johnny Whitfield I was a kid, just got my license to drive. I was shocked to read that "our" local funeral home, Horace Ward, was handling Chief's service. So that evening, I grabbed my younger sister, we put on our Sunday go to meetin' duds and drove over.
There was already a crowd, but we made our way through. They'd done a great job. Chief looked as stately and handsome as ever, just sleeping. And of course, close by was ol' Hovie, animated as ever, holding court.
He was, as anyone would expect, dressed to the nines like the showman we knew.
But if you detect a running theme here, you are correct. For all the love and affection, respect and admiration we had for Chief, Hovie and "the boys" what I remember most vividly from that night is Hovie rockin' a pair of white, patent leather go-go boots.

@@WillBravoNotEvil Great story, thanks for sharing. Chief died too young.
