If you're professional, educated, talented, good-looking, ambitious, artistic, want-to-change-the-world, live-life type of person, Los Angeles and California definitely has a place for you. If your ambition is to be Barbara, "second desk on the left in accounting"; marry Bob, mid-level manager at AT&T, have 2.5 kids; aspire to a cookie-cutter McMansion tracked home; while that life is available in California (OC), you might be happier in Texas or Florida.
Basically, if you're a "I wanna try the newest fusion Korean-Ethiopian food truck", LA's the place. If you're "I love Applebee's!", maybe it's not for you. The cool thing is you can treat LA (or NYC, SF, London) as you would college. You can have an exciting and accepting, if challenging, time here. And, if/when you've had enough, you can move on, knowing you had the huevos and opportunity to give it a try.
