What do movin without the ball gotta do wit scorin ? It’s about what happens when you get the ball …
I agree 100% with Gil about Vince! I don’t think people understand how naturally gifted this man was and he also had very underrated skill. Could post, had a nice enough handle, could shoot the 3 ball (from distance too! Look up his range) and wasn’t a bad passer (check some of his passing with Kidd & RJ in NJ). Also B Jennings has to watch some film about prime/pre-injury Mac & Penny. To even question Mac as a scorer makes me think maybe he was too young (lol hell I was born after 89’ too though) or just not interested in basketball when Mac was in Orlando at his peak! Lol that’s the only way I can excuse that bs he talking about with Mac man lol!
Yeah, Richard Jefferson said the same thing about Vince, too.
Mac was odee
So was Vince
Shit nuts
As great as Vince was, scored over 25,000pts, numerous iconic moments, the game winners and all that, one still looks at how supremely skilled he was and can't help but feel that he did not maximize his immense potential in terms of winning. Conversely, the expectations that came with his unreal talent were immense too. People didn't just watch Vince to see him win, people watched in awe and expected him to do something out of the ordinary every night. I expected a great performance from Kobe, TMac, LeBron etc, but with Vince, because of his antecedents, not only did I expect a great game, I expected to see something that would make me jump out of my seat in unbelief. That's a lot of pressure to meet those expectations every night you take the court.

Tmac was my favorite player growing up but if you check his stats compared to somebody like Kd it’s tuff to put him in the top 5
I can’t believe they had to think about that when Gil said that Prime healthy Mac was better than Melo. A Prime healthy Mac was better than anybody favorite player today. I didn’t have to think about that, T Mac was a fool with it. He was damn near like a Penny Hardaway but without the facilitation. Mac was a scorer with crazy athleticism.
Right.. When BG said they did nothing for him I was like HUH???????
Whoa hold up now 😂 it’s taken me 34 years to get over him taking my cuz number on the Magic.
He averaged over 30 ppg in the toughest defensive era of all time. Adjusting for scoring inflation, its probably closer to 40 ppg. Like, 30 points in a game that ended 89-75 is different than scoring 30 in agame that ended 118-105.

thats some Paul Pierce logic. "give Melo KD's height and he'll be better"
Paul Pierce said "Give me Lebron's teammates and ill be better than him"
McCants shows not every basketball player can talk about basketball at a high level. perfect example of brains of a jock.
Pierce > Melo
It’s because people like you choose to hate rather than understand and comprehend.
What Pierce is saying is you need teammates to win and he isn’t wrong.
What this guy was saying is that Melo is pound for pound more skilled than KD which also is not wrong.
KD is a 7 footer that really only does one thing really well. That one thing is at an all time great level but it’s simply rise up in the midrange and knock it down. Now obviously he can shoot and rise up in the post but look at the skills. KDs foot work isn’t impressive, his finishing is average, his handle is average but at his size it’s impressive but still just average, he doesn’t have a signature move like a Dirk. He just rises above smaller defenders and knocks it down. He’s like Dirk with a handle.
@@jamesonedwardsii4943whats ironic about Pierce’s statement is, he had the team that lebron pleaded the cavs for. KG and ray allen? Rondo was the icing on the top. So when he says give me lebron teammates, most people look at it as if he already had that. Ray and KG were both franchise players in their primes and got together towards the end of their franchise primes similar to wade and bosh. The reality is Pierce individually is not a better basketball player than lebron which is the main difference. So he was incorrect in two ways.
I agree with melo having more arsenals to score and better footwork than kd but you cant take physicals away from a player to make a case. Pound for pound sure, melo could be seen as a better scorer. But the same argument can be made for AI or Steph. Shit, give both of them 6’6 height and they are better than MJ. Is that really the convo we want to have? Something that cant happen?

Mad respect for Melo, making it to the top 10 all time scoring list and he was a complete scorer, but KD was just mad efficient. I have him a bump over Melo, who was only a better post up player coz of his heft. Either way, you can’t be making a mistake.
This is why Gil’s has the best podcast. They have the conversations we wanna hear.
It’s an interesting show but McCants is awful and cringe-worthy. He talks over people and makes things awkward. You can tell he just memorizes his talking points but then can’t get analytical and logical when someone else disagrees with him and tries to advance the conversation.
@@willpomeroy7711totally agree ...he's the worst lol
With a non casual opinion
1:53 Carmelo also has that element of some crazy bully-ball that will wear down the defender terribly. KD with all his height will just shake you and shoot right over, or step right around you which is just discouraging as a defender. With melo, he’s extremely quick, can hit shots just as tough, bully, crush, and destroy with a timely bump and score every time and you could never get a hand up because his shot is so quick. If he misses, he would just football yo a$$ to the basket to get second chance points. And hurt you. Then he could sauce with a max of 4 or 5 dribbles. Or stun you with jab steps, or teleport to the basket if you let him.
Saying Carmelo is “dangerous” from three is a joke lol.

Nice shout out to Vince Carter around 13:45. I watched him, when he was on Toronto, play on the road against the Bucks late 90s/early 00s and he had well over 30 pts. Although he was better known for his dunking at that time, he was making it rain from three (and scoring in other ways) that night. MJ (and Kobe) had been on record saying they play hard every night to give the fans a show, for the kid who might be seeing them for the first time. Vince Carter's performance that night, more than any other by any basketball player I've seen, in person, lived up to that maxim--fantastic player on an obscure small market team playing another small market team on the road and putting on a show to the rafters even when it seemingly didn't matter much.

For sure
vince to me was the greatest underachiever. He was so talented and athletic and scored so easily. He just never had that drive to be one of the greats. Vince played for fun. Vince had potential to be in the lebron, kobe class. vince just didn't have that killer drive like those guys.
Also Derrick Coleman was like the same too. Same goes for Rasheed Wallace
Vince's shortcoming proves why Jordan is the GOAT. Both men were given comparable physical gifts, but produced VERY different results.
Vince did play more for fun, but you can't question a player's will to win. The Raptors management didn't set up their players for success when Vince was playing alongside Tracy. They had two of the most talented players that put up strong numbers, too. The rest of the team wasn't championship level. Arguably, Jordan had the drive and will to win more than any player I have watched play. The man was merciless. There's Jordan, and then there's Mamba mentality.
Carter could've been the GOAT. I believe the pressure was just too much for him.

He had no business playing power forward, especially during his era where there were 7-foot+ giants, and nearly 7-foot power forwards. Which made it all the more impressive.
Gil is 100% right on this one!!!... Vince was like an updated version of Clyde drexler....... All the natural talent in the world but just never seemed to wanna kill every night!!
He dint have the work it like kobe
Im glad they put respect on Paul Pierce name. The casuals dont know. Vince was a beast too. I loved the era i grew up watching with them, AI, Tmac and Gil with Melo and Kd coming behind them. Certified bucket getters.
Truth was a monster...I watched him put terrible teams on his back night in and night out..that's why I can't stand when people actually have the nerve to try and compare someone like Wade to him.... most of these casuals can't speak on Pierce's game, because they weren't watching him like that, if you weren't local then you weren't getting the games...Wade had Shaq, then Lebron, cover of the video games, espn darling, of course all the kiddies are going to side that way
Jordan is the best scorer ever. KD is top 5 scorers all time imo. KD scores at every level. KD is also ridiculously efficient; especially for him being an iso player.
Yep. Jordan is the best scorer ever. He could anyway, every way you wanted. Throw the kitchen sink and a stiff arm, mj getting buckets
Amazing how this new gen dont mention MJ.
KD top 6 scorer
1. MJ
2. Wilt
3. Bron
4. Kareem
5. Kobe
6. KD
@thedepresseddog6035 i like Bron but he isn't a top 5 scorer
KD doesn't have to work as hard as most scorers because when all else fails, he just raises up over his defender and shoots over anybody because of his 7ft height/length and 7'4" wingspan...KD's height, agility, length and shooting efficiency makes him unguardable 95% of the time.
99% of the time, if we are being honest.
@lourencoteles8414 ...well we know Giannis and Tatum are the only one's who have the length and athleticism to bother his shot.
@@therealist2798even they can’t really do much with him. His ability to drive to the basket is another weapon.
When it gets to crunch time 4th quarter and he’s tired and he needs to get closer to the rim in the post he can’t back his man down because he’s skinny

Thanks Gil for showing Melo love like this. My favorite player greatest scorer of the basketball. Melo dropped 52 without a layup or free throws nobody else in basketball will ever get that

People didn’t actually watch Melo play, they jus went by the rumors from espn that he was selfish and overrated
He was my fave since hs before he got to Syracuse and I watched his whole career
He is the most tactical scorer I’ve ever seen
Those weren't rumors.
He himself has admitted he was playing selfishly and would be disengaged if he wasn't scoring.
Anyone who watched him knew it. Some tried to cover for him but that was who he was.
That said he was an all time great scorer.
I don’t think he was tactical I just think he could score at will so it just looked easy
Tmac, Kobe, jordan deserve a mention
Jordan deserves more that a mention, neither Vince or Melody led the league in scoring.
You are my favorite players growing up man I would love to be part of this . This makes my day going thru everything I’m going thru
Loved this debate, watched it a few times alr ..
KD had 4-5 scoring titles in his youth. Not even in his prime. That was during Melo prime btw. Shooting 50%
The fact that Kobe ain’t on here is insane
Automatically can't trust anything they say with this omission
Kobe isn’t efficient he has the most missed shots in nba history
Love the conversation on Melo vs Tmac
This a great debate
Durant is probably the best scorer ever
kd handles are underrated, he gets to the bucket, and he does post to do that 1 leg turnaround
Vince Mcgrady Pierce was shooting the 3 at a high rate 00-04 plus had that post up and dribbling ability midrange
You gotta talk about efficiency as well if you gonna talk about the best scorers. Post scoring is dead now especially for non bigs so giving Melo the edge over KD because of a dead skill set is crazy
KD can actually post up that is the crazy part he just don't do it often because teams don't play like that anymore.
Derozan kawhi mid range is deadly and easier then chucking 3s
Harden perfected traveling 😅
None of the guys mentioned scored more than kobe in a game
THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD!!!!
Kd has trouble against physical defense to this day and it always comes to light whenever he doesn’t have the perfect team around him as he did in GS which gave him all the space in the world to operate. He also struggles when defenders get at his feet with the handle. This the especially the case early in his career and the last series he had against Boston. Tough for him to handle when people are in his body.
Carmelo clearly has a harder time scoring because Kevin Durant shoots better than Melo for his career by a lot
4 scoring titles in okc considered the best scorer and to some the best player on the league while in okc🤦🏿♂️no slight to Melo but KD just🔥🔥
Kd has a harder time now because he’s past his prime with multiple injuries
He avg 30 if that's having trouble than shit
Physicality? He had his best playoff series vs a physical bucks defense. Perfect team? Okc had trash spacing. Beverly tried attacking his handle and kd torched the clippers. You referenced the Celtics series. That was a flawed roster that had 10 games together. Boston threw the kitchen sink at him and left brown and dragic wide open and kd still averaged 26 when most players aren’t even getting shots off vs that coverage.
Whattt?? Debating Paul Pierce an James Harden as complete scorers vs McGrady is Ludacris. Tmac had sooo much more than both of them combined in his scoring arsenal. There is no way you can compare them to Mac
No. Man shutup.
More than Harden forsure. Pierce debatable.. he could score on all 5 levels as well but he wasn’t as gifted as Tmac
Pierce was definitely stronger than Mac
scoring should be categorized as; actions, post ups, iso, at the basket, mid range and perimeter.
I wish you guys would look at the stats of Kobe and kd match ups, Ik the didn’t guard each other much but the numbers would be interesting
Orlando T-Mac was the greatest scorer I have ever scene imo
T mac was nasty asf just like gil said ask kobe.
Greatness comes from which bag to choose wenever whoever guarding u. People dont talk about it lol
Yoow! the Vince Carter conversation suddenly hit me! Facts!!! I remember in his prime how gifted that man was! Crazy! Gil was 💯 about Vince! The toronto stats was 🔥 too, every game playing against toronto he had diff. Mindset! 🤯🤯🤯
They are underrating TMac. He was a better scorer than Melo
Player not scorer
@@Saviiq is debatable about scoring. I pick TMac cuz he is smooth, and he averaged over 30 PPG as well.
I kinda like Brandon’s thinking on this. “I don’t care how, just get the ball in the hoop.” Kinda like RJ saying Lebron is a best scorer because he got the record. If someone scores on move levels but scored less someone else scoring on less levels, then who’s “better”
LeBron ain't the best scorer so you need to stop. But in general, the guy that can score on multiple levels is better. Why? Because he can always get his. Take away one thing he can eat another way. But then you have the aliens like KD and Shaq where you can't take that one thing away from them
@@ggsimmonds1 I know. Brandon’s thinking here is just a fun way to troll these discussions
Lebron ain't the best scorer
I agree with the vc point. He was my favorite player growing up but we also have to take into consideration where he was drafted. He was on the damn raptors. They couldn't build a decent roster. Imagine he was put on the Lakers with Shaq as a rookie. The conversation around him would be totally different. If Kobe ended up on Charlotte his career would be totally different
Well Kobe being on the lakers actually ruined his first couple years while the rest of his class shined because he was benched.
Kobe would’ve probably won rookie of the year in Charlotte and been traded to a franchise team regardless.. Spurs/Mavs.. Kobe would’ve got 6 with Duncan forsure
@@merv3930 would he have 5 rings? Did he have been on one team for 20 years? Highly doubt it. I can't believe you're trying me having Shaq, Phil Jackson, Jerry West, Eddie Jones, Nick can Exel in your franchise guiding you"ruined" his first couple years. He would have been putting up empty numbers in the weak east, with no real guidance as far as coaching, longer to get playoff experience and success. Dude you are delusional. And no he would not have won rookie of the year over AI. Kobe wasn't on that level just yet. Maybe a different year but he wasn't getting that in 96. Too many NBA ready guys with ball of fame talent
Off topic: does anyone know what that shirt Arenas is wearing can be found?
How everybody didn't say KD is beyond me. No disrespect to Melo, I always loved watching him play.
I know. KD can get you 30 on 10 shots and easy.
Kd is an overrated scorer, take the jumpshot away hes average offensively
@nooniewheeler3502 this guy. Ok off that logic. Curry overrated take away his 3s he just regular
