I drive the M train, so part of this is my view every day. Going over that bridge never gets old ;-)
@R68 N Train Productions My favorite trains, only because they are one handed operation and they are less prone to breakdowns because they are new lol. They do slide in the rain a LOT, so we have to be careful most of the time. The cabs are comfortable and they are easier to operate. It's like playing a video game almost haha

Great ride. At 5:37, on the right-hand side, it's the abandoned Richmond Hill station of the LIRR, looking toward Forest Park and beyond that the former Glendale, Fresh Pond, Haberman, and Penny Bridge stations on the way to Long Island City.
Bobby Brady Low ridership in these areas made it not worth it to upgrade these stations for high level boarding for the then-new C3 LIRR cars.

The most coolest and scenic line in Queens and Brooklyn! I remember R40 Mods on the J back in 1994 when those trains flew down the line! Those were the days!

I wonder if where a single track passes through the middle of the platform like at 50:20, is it possible to get a running start and leap across it to the other platform?

This was very cool. As a resident of Cali and a sometimes visitor to NYC I've really only ridden the Manhattan trains. This is so much better as you get to see the neighborhoods along the way!
Conversely, I rode the 7 and G primarily, so seeing his A journey really was interesting!

It has been 50 years since I last rode the J line and that was when it started at 165th Street. Some of the areas look better than I expected.
168th Street, and then it was the #15.
This is a Manhattan bound j train, the next stop is broadway junction. Stand clear of the closing doors please.

I used to live in NYC. I lived in this part of Queens in the mid to late 80’s. I lived off the 104 Street stop. At the time I lived in a room. I remember the J Line. Riding it constantly to and from work. Connecting to the B Train to Brooklyn. Memories.
At 20:20 Cleveland Street, my home station. 40 years ago. The J train (was QJ back then) was my high school commute.
NYC subway development: Let's be minimal about the design, and we don't care if the pieces don't match symmetrically for the stations or tunnels.

When me and my family used to live in Brooklyn, my father would take the J train to work, from Flushing Avenue Station to Fulton Street Station. Since we now live in Newark, New Jersey, my father takes the Path Train to work, from Newark Penn Station to WTC Station.

I remember when in schoolcar training the red aspect stopped many trainees schoolcar trains at cypress hills. Red aspect at the middle of the station.

In the "B" division subway, red aspects mean "stop". B division trains stop on reds always If its on an automatic or an interlocking.
Rode this train , or the KK from Van Siclen and Fulton to the last stop 168th St when I was in High School back in the late '60's early '70's . Then the long walk up the hills to Thomas Edison.
The J line looks good all new stations and all new track running boards and all new signals and all new tracks done by the track department

Right before the train pulls into Essex after going into the tunnel after the Williams-burg bridge. What's with all those tracks towards the left of the station. Looks like the entrance to Grand Central via Metro North. Looks like there was many layups. I never noticed that before.

A lot of people don't remember when the line was called the QJ that ran from 165th Street Queens all the way to Coney Island
As memorable and scenic taking the J train with my (now ex) from broad Street to Jamaica Center to drop her off to school at York College a few years back, this ride got uncomfortable to me quick not sure why, tiring I'd say. I don't hate the J train tho, they're usually reliable to me In terms of not having to wait awfully long unlike the C train for example
i wonder why the J express does not use the center track to bypass the stations like what they usually do during the week

I know the London underground well but by comparison the new York subway stations seem very close together . Thought it was maybe just these overground sections but the underground stations seem the same . Nothing wrong with this - as it obviously works ok .
Yeah the definitely crammed them in, London stations are more spread out over a wider area

I hear a lot of complaints about the NYC subway, and while I don't doubt that most of them are true (I've never been there) I'll say one thing, the graffiti is fuckin' world class. The 7 train vid has the best tags but this one is pretty great too.

I’ve noticed there is what looks like a 2nd set of rails and a bunch of other stuff in the middle of the track when it’s outside can anybody tell me why?
The third middle track can be used for train storage, emergency rerouting, or used as a way for a train to go in the other direction if they need a temporary terminal.

That is an abandoned LIRR station. It was abandoned in 1998 due to low ridership (just about nobody even used that station at the time it was closed).
Richmond Hill on the Montauk Branch. The Montauk Branch between LIC and Jamaica had two Mon-Fri trains in rush hours that made the various stops, which were abandoned at some point with one or two trains continuing to use the branch without making any stops between Jamaica and LIC. The branch was taken out of passenger service eventually to save money. In any case, most main line trains west of Jamaica that went to Hunterspoint Avenue continued on to LIC anyway, so the branch wasn't needed to service that station.
What surprises me is the short run between terminals. it surprises me that they keep this line. Running nine car trains on such a short distance seems hard to believe that they consistently have enough ridership to keep the line running especially in todays strict rules for maintaining a cost effective short system.
You'd be surprised at the traffic the J has. In the AM rush, around 6/7/8 it would be packed. Same for the evening. It connects to multiple other lines (A/C/E/F/L/M/N/Q/R/2/3/4/5/6) so it easily lets you go to multiple parts of the city
Trains usually run 10 mins between each other, but after midnight, frequency is reduced kinda drastically since not many people are taking it, cutting some costs. However that can probably be said about multiple lines throughout the system

Are there still R32's on this line? Took my son the other day but couldn't find any front views.
The R32s have all moved off of the J line to the A and C lines. There are still some R42s running on the line, but they are quite rare and usually run only during rush hours.
And now the r42s are gone so no more front window on the J

Yellow on top, green on bottom: prepare to stop on the main route; green on top, yellow on bottom: proceed on the diverging route.

And having R143s from the L, 160s & 179s? Yup, this is the line that made me want to become a train operator and as I started taking it to go to high school, the only old trains I’d would see would only run during rush hours, on the A & C, or inside the school itself...
Yup This Has Been J/Z Line For About 6 Years Now Those 32s That The J/Z. Have Now Came From The C Line Back In 2013 But Actually Were The Last Few Cars That Came Off Of The E Line Back In 08 & Since The 32s Started Having Mutiple Breakdowns They're Trying To Maintain Them But Splitting Them Between The J/Z & C Lines And Now Theyre Back On The A Line

Those were 160A's theyve been on the line for quite some time it took a while to get use to them.. The 179's however are being tested with the A and C line

I still can't understand why there's a signal at the middle of a station.
The MTA has the lines divided into sections so that it can keep track of where the trains are, so I guess the signal in the middle of the station is because that's the start of a new section

Its the air conditioner in the car. Idk ehy they replace it and upgrade it but at least there is AC inside the car and is needed especially in the rush hours. I don't really mind it

that “high pitched buzzing” is the A/C vaporators. The R42s do the same noise too and to be honest it’s less annoying in person. I like the sound

Yes, it is water damage caused by Hurricane Sandy that was never fully fixed... The Bowery area was flooded pretty bad by the storm.
I can never understand the logic of yellow or red signals for no apparent reason. There are clearly no trains ahead. Forcing trains to crawl between stations and even into stations just delays customers and induces unnecessary motion sickness. If you need to improve spacing then hold at the prior station but let them travel unimpeded between stations.
