    When you watch the afterburners you can see how individual each landing is for each pilot. It's awesome.

      Can you explain this? When they catch the line, they punch it? Why? In case they miss they can keep going? How on earth does it hold?

    • @Diygary
      @Diygary Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@MAGA_Randy_Marsh They punch the throttle as soon as they reach the carrier, because there's no way to no for-sure whether or not they're gonna catch the wire...So they need to have enough power to fly away and try again if they miss it.
      Jet engines have a delay between the time that the pilot adjusts the throttle, and the time that the engines actually respond. It's not instantaneous. So the pilots have to account for this, especially in a fast-paced scenario like carrier landings.
      When you see the afterburners light up, that's a result of the pilot going full throttle, several seconds ago.

    The finest in the world. Not just the pilots but everyone on that floating city deserves respect. And the personnel on that deck. That takes skills that look easy behind a screen. It is difficult to keep your cool. The crew is ready for combat at any moment. It's time they'll never regret. Serving in the USN is a way to see the world and get first rate education. If you are young reading this? Take the opportunity to be a part of something that serves the entire free world.

      @@Dream-no6sq The F/A-18 has a system on-board that interacts with the boat called the ICLS (Instrument Carrier Landing Systems) that will tell them on the HUD if they are high/low and left/right of the final heading. I've observed carrier landings for a while and I have yet to chart perspective at night. The carrier, the deck always appear unyiellding in thieir size, much too small, and appear much too fast, I find them terrifying. I am quite comfortable with landings at daytime (imaginary), so it seems my flight or flight response (pun ignored) is calibrated quite differently for time of day or available light.. Is there is a unique or special skill set or a psychological touchstone that enables these incredible pilots to adjust to master night landings? Is it tested for? Can it be taught? Am I the only one with a definite problem?
    The one thing I have learned is that the process has been constantly improved...you can see it. The machine continues to be finely tuned,. I admit I am besotted by the mystical dance of signals, I believe that all striving for safety and performance at landing and takeoffs seem vectored toward body language and other non-verbals cues, Amazing, amazing, mazing.
