I think you could omit the foil step, but to have the same depth and dimension to the nail I think the other ones are necessary… you could maybe add all the color flakes on the same layer and you would get the same color effect at the end but I think it would look flat 🤔

These are beautiful! They're definitely giving the impression of opals except for the fact that they're coming across too blue for me. I would try making the syrup gel a warmer color, perhaps mixing in some yellow? Or one small drop each of yellow and a cream/white. That way all the color and opalescent flakes underneath would shine through but they would look more like opal cabochons.
Since they're so thick, they almost look like real stones. I would love to see a black opal version
