9. Black Mamba
Also called the black-mouthed mamba, the black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is named for the blackened inside of its mouth. It’s Africa’s longest venomous snake, measuring up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) long.
8. Terciopelo
The fer-de-lance (Bothrops asper), one of the world’s most dangerous pit vipers, has several names, depending on the region. In Costa Rica, it’s called the “terciopelo” (velvet), and in Guatemala and Honduras, the species is known as “barba amarilla” (yellow beard).
7. Bushmaster
The bushmaster (Lachesis) genus, which encompasses four known species, is the world’s largest pit viper. It’s found in the rainforests of Central and South America and is related to the terciopelo that I told you about. Specimens typically measure around six feet (1.8 meters) long, but sometimes grow up to 10 feet (3 meters) long. Don’t want to run into one of those!!
6. Carpet Viper
The carpet viper or saw-scaled viper (Echis) genus lives in dry regions throughout Africa, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East. There are 12 recognized species, who scientists believe are responsible for more bite-related human deaths than any other snake.
5. Many-Banded Krait
Found throughout China and much of Southeast Asia, the many-banded krait (Bungarus multicinctus), also called the Chinese krait or the Taiwanese krait, is an extremely venomous snake measuring up to 6.1 feet (1.85 meters) long.
4. Inland Taipan
The inland taipan, also called the western taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus), is endemic to eastern Australia and measures up to six-and-a-half feet (2 meters) long. Generally speaking, this species is rather elusive, and will go out of its way to avoid humans, making encounters between them and us pretty rare.
3. Russell’s Viper
The Russell’s viper (Dabois russelii) has a wide distribution, including in Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Taiwan. This three-foot-long (1 meter) serpent is responsible for nearly all the fatal snake bites within this range, and there are numerous reasons for this. For one, the Russell’s viper often lives in and around populated areas, bringing it near humans and naturally increasing the likelihood of a hostile interaction.
2. King Cobra
Found throughout India, China, and Southeast Asia, the king cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) long, making it the world’s longest venomous snake. The species’ venom is not the most lethal out there, drop by drop.
1. Eastern Brown Snake
There are nine species of Australian brown snakes (Pseudonaja), which are found throughout Australia, Papua New Guinea, and West Papua. Perhaps the deadliest among them is the eastern brown snake (Pseudonaja textilis), also known as the common brown snake.
#venomous #snakes #poisonous #wildlife #animals #creatures #reptiles #biggest #largest #originsexplained
But isn't it a good idea to avoid ALL venomous snakes!
The Black Mamba is often referred as the most dangerous Snake is the world. #9 is WAY too low.
TexasRocks HillCountry it’s more towards #12 it’s the fastest venomous snakes there’s many more snakes much more venomous
Dangerous and venomous are two different things buddy.... Venomous usually only considers the toxicity of the venom and the dose the species usually delivers.. dangerous on the other hand includes the species' temperament, proximity to human, geographic area they're found at, etc
Even though its about venom toxicity black mamba still should be place above because it has a top 5 potent venom of all the snakes in the world
I heard the Mamba has the most fast acting venom hence its dangerous reputation. They will also strike multiple times if necessary compared to other snakes who mostly strikes once to conserve venom.
@@abhishekrout3050 no it doesn't. It's not even in the top 10
I was hoping to see my ex wife rank high as the most venomous snakes 🐍
@King Ghidorah she's deathly.... hits one where it hurst the most.... the wallet
Ha! (I hear you, man... I hear you!)
LOL!! 😆 🤣 😂 😹
Perhaps, your ex was in honorable mentions 😂😂😂
Wingzerodd hi
Great to see one of my favourite topics again! That's the spirit Kat!
As for this list, the most impressive snake would have to be the King Cobra! Up to eighteen feet of greatness!
I would have also included on this list another one of my favourites, the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake and made it a list of ten!
no Gabon Viper??? should really be on this list!!! just my opinion, ofc
This list has the world's most venomous snakes although not in the correct order and yes the Gaboon Viper, Puff Adder should definitely be on the list along with the Forest Cobra, the Philipinnes Cobra, and others I could extend this list to about 30.
@@Boozoobajou1 the gaboon is indeed highly toxic, it's nowhere near one of the most venomous in Africa let alone the world
Love your vids please make more video like this😍🥰
The top 3 are actually
1st: Inland taipan
2nd: Eastern Brown snake
3rd:coastal taipan
Fun Fact:they all live in australia
Most of them dnt come into contact with humans. And are not considered dangerous to humans
@@skylarutd but this video is still technically wrong
@@skylarutd wrong .. so very very wrong. The coastal Taipan is the same species that lives in Papua and is responsible for upward of a thousand deaths per year. Yeah no danger, I suggest education.
@@skylarutd the video is labelled 9 most venomous not 9 most dangerous, a few of the species on that list shouldn't of even been there as there are species much more venomous.
@@outdoorsluke well the inland taipan should have gotten the first spot
Hello this is so totally interesting and helpful, it's never to late to learn! Thank you Origins Explained, happy Friday! 💙👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
yeah. just be adventures
Unfortunately it's poorly researched, misleading and in some cases, plain wrong. Playing down the Black Mamba and not even mentioning the Coastal, or Papuan Taipan dismissed thousands , yes thousands, of snakebite deaths per year. The Inland Taipan is a totally different animal than the western desert Taipan , the failure to mention the Australian death adder which is the fastest striking animal on earth or beautiful Tiger Snake also shows a lack of research that unfortunately pervades the world of information pertaining to venemous reptiles.
none of this was right
If the snake doesn't bite unless agitated, that isn't agression. That is defensive.
@@Mr_poopy_diaper9587 yes it was xd
The thumbnails a mangrove snake..
Ong 🤣 people that are not reptile channels should not be aloud to make videos about snakes cuz they don’t know shit about them and they just try to get people to fear snakes
that's what i thought. and from what i understand: they are only mildly venomous, especially when compared to this list.
AnIconoclast lol when someone puts a black mamba at number 9 you know they are just uneducated
@Lia Plays edit
@Repzillian mangrove snakes have much more potent venom than most rear-fanged snakes, unlike hognoses where stuff will only happen if you're allergic the mangrove snake can still cause some pretty bad damage even if you aren't allergic
The information on these snakes on this video are wrong the tiapan should be number 1 as most venomous
Inland taipan
Inland tiapan
Most venomous yes- not the most dangerous
@@scottdangerfield2987 The most dangerous would either be the Black Mamba or the coastal taipan. The Inland Taipan has the most toxic venom but it's pretty rare to encounter one unless you're actually looking for it
@@michaelshort2388 correct- hence I said most venomous- not most dangerous..
Wow this is amazing please do more videos I love them

Black mambas bottom of list 😂. They should be near the top. And why wasn’t Gaboon Viper on list, biggest fangs and largest venom yield of any snake?
@Eric Pike You gotta be kidding me! The Gaboon Viper's bite is 100% fatal if not treated!
This has to be the most incompetent narration I've EVER heard!
TexasRocks HillCountry it is 😂
Because they don't usually bite people. Even if they're stepped on.
Because there not that da
Eric Pike the list is bs but the black mamba is around #12
Great video. Hugs from Halifax
thanks katrina.
So this list clearly isn’t in order. Plus there are quite a few missing. Also I believe the top ten most venomous live in Australia (not necessarily the most dangerous ones).
Top 4 are in Australia
anthony jones top 10 are in Australia and I think it’s 22 out of top 25 aswell
Coyote was almost bitten by a vet-de-lance
I really enjoyed working with snakes and other reptiles all my life and though I am getting rid of the last 3 snakes out of the 62 I had, I do think you have your list in order a bit wrong with some not even being mentioned unfortunatly.
Your videos are awesome
Hi love your vids
Hi Katrina awesome video gotta love them snakes!! we dont have any venomous snakes in UK except the Adder saw two on my hike once one of them slithered towards me not aggressive but curious i was at a respectable distance they beautiful but deadly now they swarm on beaches around my area my friends dog got bitten by one and also some people i know. I still like snakes though just keep your distance and let them get on with their life and admire from a distance :D
Hi! Excellent video. Here in Brazil, "terciopelo" is known as "jararaca" and the "bushmaster" is "surucucu" for us. Both names are indigenous.
Did you know that there is an argument on the Black Mamba not being the world's fastest snake. The Sidewinder is supposedly faster. The Black Mamba can slither up to 12.5 miles an hour. It is said the a Sidewinder can slither at the amazing speed of 18 miles per hour. Here's where you can find the information that I am talking about. Google world's fastest striking snakes. It will have both top 3 fastest snakes. The ones that move the fastest and the 3 fastest to strike at it's prey or enemy. Anyway I was told while getting my hours to be able to own venomous snakes, that the Black Mamba is the fastest. But I'll just let you decide to believe what you want too. Peace
“The black mamba, otherwise known as the Kobe Bryant snake”
And also the kiss of death
Ik it’s sad but lol
Me: *sad,very very sad.*
Roger Mayweather
I have a 1 eyed snake and it is not venomous at all.
But it can get ladies pregnant.
Western diamond back. Forgot that one even though it is in relation to the pit viper.
It is a type of pit viper.
Western diamondbacks don't result in many deaths at all. In the United States, there are on average 5 per year with the most deaths if to the Mojave Rattlesnake or "unknown species".
its not related. it is a pit viper
No 5. The First pic in video used mangrove cat snake, it completely difference with chinese krait 😁
When you don’t know what a many banded krait is so you photoshop a mangrove snake to look like it has fangs 🤡
Ur opinion 😂💀
@@134bn How is that my opinion? The thumbnail is a photoshopped mangrove snake, a rear fanged snake that is not even related to the many banded krait, if you don't believe me look it up. Perhaps you are one of the people who enjoys the false media portrayal of large, flashy, defensive snakes as being the most venomous, when in reality many are more subtly colored species that rarely interact with humans. But go ahead, continue to disagree with people who point out flaws in media portrayal of snakes in order to make your puerile self feel as if you have disproved their points. But alas, you have not disproved anything, and you likely did no research before making your foolish comment, as a simple google search of "mangrove snake" or "many banded krait" would have proved that my original comment was indeed valid.
@@tylerirvin2314 ur opinion
You have an accurate list of the world's most venomous snakes however you have left two off the list that definitely should be there the Puff Adder and Coastal/Papuan Taipan at number three and the Black Mamba should be at number four.
No was more a list of the most dangerous not the most venomous, if was most venomous the taipan would not have been so low down the list and half the species on there would not have been
This is educational
it's wrong
I thought the Australian Taipan was the venomous snake..
the inland taipan is the most venomous snake
The Inland Tappan is the worlds most venomous snake, however, it doesnt bite much because its not super aggressive and doesnt live in highly populated areas.
The most venemous snake drop for drop is actually the Sea Snake, more specifically the faint banded or Belchers Sea Snake. However a bite from them is extremely rare, they are extremely shy and timid and will only bite as a last resort. Obviously this doesn't mean it can't, but they seldom bite.
@Eric V Belchers sea snake LD50 0.24mgkg tested intramuscular instead of subcutaneous. Inland Taipan ld50 0.025mgkg sc tested subcutaneous. Dubois sea snake LD50 0.044mgkg sc tested subcutaneous is the most toxic venomous sea snake that is still not even half as toxic as the Inland taipan.
Further to my other comment- I never claimed the Puff Adder was the most venomous- just their bites killed more people than any- and all combined snakes in in South Africa.
I was gagging through this whole video but I still love snakes so I kept on watching it. 🙃🙃🙃🤨😳🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
saw scaled viper is the one viper which contains most venom in to those fangs i like carpet viper honestly mostly design of it also it is coldblooded idk i finding too cool but i don't want to mess with it either
I am totally fascinated by the black mamba.
In Belize we call the fer de lance the yellow jawed tommy Goff
Many banded kraits are black with white stripes, banded kraits are black with yellow stripes, also there were a lot or mangrove snakes mixed in with the many banded krait segment which is a rear fanged venomous snake but is unlikely to cause you anything but some pain and nausea.

Your telling me the black mamba is ninth! It has to be at least top 5
This guy has no idea what he’s talking about
Do a most venomous sea creature vid... pretty please
4:47 the Carpet Viper is Extinct!
No its not .....
moonshine camo it is I’m an animal expert.
@@joeyphaahla hahaha ok bud
@@joeyphaahla You are obviously not an expert if you believe the carpet viper is extinct. It is listed as least concern by IUCN; any average person with access to the internet can find that out.
moonshine camo I’m not joking you stuffed muppet!
if you ever seen a black mamba move you know it definitely not a number 9 snake truth be told
8:37 the Western Taipan is a whole different species.
(I mean no disrespect to u origins I ame working on my venom degree so I just sweated some knowledge pls don’t take it the wrong way) 9should be higher for second longest and the venom is necrotic witch means your flesh will die. 8 is some what in the right ball park but is not really as bad as 9. 7 doesn’t really wanna be near you u have to mess with it. 6 carpet viper is only dangerous if you don’t use a walking stick. 5 the bite makes you feel sick but it’s basically a worse yellow mangrove but u can be dead. 4 is not a real threat cause it can’t come near you it runs unlike the black head python that looks similar so if it runs bad. 4 is some what in the right room until I see in Buber 2and 1. 2 is actually number 1 and 9 is actually in number 2. Brown is three so every thing is deadly but put in the wrong spot
The herpetologist, Joseph Slowinski had the misfortune of being bitten on September 11, 2001, so trying to contact the American embassy was fruitless, they having tried several times to arrange transportation to medical services. There was nothing but confusion that day due to the terror attack in New York.
I love snakes. They're beautiful. I almost died after a Rattle snake bite when I was 9 years old.
I love snakes
There amazing.
ME TOOO
I’m gonna have a sanctuary and if a person calls me and they say they’ve got a venomous snake imma be there before they finish the call LOL XD
I narrowed down my snake collection from 62 to 3 thankfully. I have a lot of other reptiles still and may get rid of my last 3, no clue. One is way to big for me to deal with now. But snakes are awesome animals regardless so I must agree with you overall but not in great numbers as it can cost a lot to maintain their steady feeding schedule.
I love them so much that I’m getting one of my one I hope
The fer de lance is not really a set species. But the species most known for being a "Fer de lance" is Bothrops Atrox aka The common lancehead.
I loved your video...I believe if you have to tell someone to avoid a King Cobra there's no hope for them
Scary! This is why I steer clear of ALL snakes as much as possible. If I do get bitten by a wild snake I'm going to the hospital whether it's venomous or not. I wouldn't know and I'd rather be safe than sorry.
It's good to know
The inland taipan is the worlds most venomous i don't no why it 3rd on this list
Yes totally agree inland Taipan has always been most venomous snake.
Hmm
Because they aren’t that aggressive.
@@lordrhino7026 ya ik
It may be the world's most venomous snake, but with it living away from humans, and it's non defensive demeanor, this makes it not nearly as deadly as other snakes more defensive, but less venomous
Yes
As an amateur herpetologist this is painful to watch. A few species didn't match their pictures and some of the information was wrong
I thought this was a video on Heiferee Starved. 🤷♀️
Hi it's katrina! :)
LOL
I am not going to Africa with my family without filling my back with all kind of anti venom things
Then u will need a portable fridge and about a few hundred thousand dollars cuz they cost thousands of dollars each some over ten thousand. N in most cases u need 5 or 6 dose. N even with a fridge they go bad fairly quickly. So good luck
According to Dingo (check his channel) there is absolutely no antivenom against bushmasters as they are so rare...that is where i left this video :D
That black mamba story doesnt sound true, mainly the part where more come to attack
Yeah this morning I walk out my front door and there's a 5ft brown snake that strikes at me!
WOW THERE IS A LOT OF NEW SNAKES IN THE WORLD
When Ur Early And Don't Know What To Say 0-0
IKR but I haven’t been that early
Bro the black mamba is the 5th most venomous
And I’m watching this before bed because...
Miss, the fastest snake isn't the Black mamba, or at least the MPH you listed isn't correct. The black racer which lives in PA I know for a fact can move more than 20 MPH
YOU FORGOT THE RATTLESNAKE
I like how the cover picture is a mangrove snake which are rear fanged and not that potent venom😂
Spectacled Cobra should also be part of the list
cool
Okay 1. The snake you shown was a boiga dendrophilia. Not a krait snake. It was the only reason why i watched this cause im interested in buying a boiga.
Lots of incorrect information. Inland tiapan is the most venous snake. Second eastern brown, coastal tiapan is third. Puff added kills more people than any other snake in Africa. The bushmaster is the longest viper in the world, but are extremely elusive. Rarely coming into contact with people. Completely left out the gaboon viper, which has the longest fangs and biggest venom yield than any other snake.
Finally, somebody who knows what the world's three most venomous snakes are you are obviously not American.
@@Boozoobajou1 Actually I am. LOL.
It's the spectacled cobra which causes many deaths in SEA and India. King 🤴 is a calm operator.
Snakes generally mind their own business but some times bad luck strikes.
I don’t know why im not scared Coz I’ve killed so many vipers, but now I realised that this snake could kills me at that particular areas since most of the times im far from the hospital 🏥
Love her voice
They did not put the saw scaled viper at Ireland if you didn't know there was one spotted in Ireland
What About estern Diamond back
Thanks Origins, now I'm ready to wander the wilderness!
none of this was right
Fer de lance grows a lot longer than 6ft. I have seen them up to 10ft long
🍻🤔
what kind if anti-venemoues should I take with me
U can't take it with u. It needs to be fairly fresh n refrigerated n oh another thing, it cost tens of thousands of dollars
N what da hell is "venemoues"?! lol its anti venom

No matter who if you see one reptile just run
I don't see blue coral snake any where here
No reference for coral snake or sea snake?
Black mamba is way too low on this list...then the philippine cobra shld be here too i guess
Black mamba
8:34 the Inland Taipan is the worlds deadlist snake!
If I hv to make a pick, black mamba is last one to be bitten by, kills quickly
Inland Taipan no 4 seriously
Equally deadly are the Puff Adder and Green Mamba.
I am so glad that there are no "although venomous" killer snakes in Somalia
Number 1 all of them
the black mamba should be like nr 4 on the list, not 9. LOL.
12ème minute : si ce serpent est un King cobra (cobra royal ou hamadryade) ... moi je suis championne de saut à l’élastique avec une gamelle de 50 kilos de ciment à chaque pied !
I think if people keep venomous snakes they should have anti venom with them at all times.
Lol. I'm sorry but I read that if snakes kept anti venom with them! I agree but I don't think it's realistic. Some is very rare and probably expensive but it's a thought.
If ur a billionaire u can. Cuz they cost thousands of dollars rare ones cost 30 thousand each n usually u need 5 or 6 to treat a bite. N they go bad in about a month. So if u have just 10 venomous snakes 3 rare ones, n u want to have anti venom in hand, that'll be $500,000 a month. Would that cash or credit?
Some of us keep venimous snakes- we call them wives
