In 1986, Mattel broke into the Indian toy market by partnering with Indian marketing company Blow Plast, Inc to form Leo Mattel. This brought many of Mattel's popular lines to a new part of the world, including Masters of the Universe - which in turn created some really interesting variants of the figures we're used to here in the US.
Welcome back to Toysplosion - the series dedicated to the history and the nostalgia of the toy industry!

9:16. Quite the contrary, in fact. Here, in India, a collectors lobby of non-fans found out these were fetching a decent amount of cash overseas, so in 2002/03, these few dudes went all over, hoarded these up for a few years and sold them. The only Leo Toys you'll find in India being traded around are broken and without armor. I can assure you that there's no mint condition ones, except with those select few people I mentioned earlier.
In India these figures were a smash hit. I remember my dad bought me a He-man toy which had 'made in Malaysia' on the pack. A year later, he bought me another He-man which had 'made in India' on the pack. The Indian version had a lighter skin tone and its head was made of the same material as the rest of its body while the Malaysian version had a head made of hard rubber and had tanned skin.
Hi,
I am from India and I remeber playing and collecting most of them from around 1986 to 1994...They were a real craze here among children of my age... fuelled mostly by the animation show which played here around that time. It is really a part of nostalgia for our generation in India and thank you again for reminding me of those good old times with this video.
you need to be buying as many from your country as u can find my freind. they would help you out financially selling online to usa uk eu ect
@@stanleyberg5628 They aren't here anymore. All of them got hoarded up by some folks and sold on ebay years and years ago, sadly.
@@SylentEcho thank u for telling me masters of the universe does have this poweful effect on people
@@stanleyberg5628 Dude, most people here sell broken He-Man Leo Toys for $200 and $300 in India. It's a laugh! Overrated garbage, this Leo MOTU.
@@rockasteria wow its just how people flip out for motu especially anything remotely rare or from somewhere else a design mis print on a card back can make it worth 1000s
Hi, Dan. I'm from India. Thanks for covering this, really great job! I remember playing with these toys in the early 90s. I had all of these models you mentioned, even Cringer, Panther and Man at arms. I'm sure there were more which I'm forgetting. I donated them to my younger cousin eventually, had I known they would become so valuable over time I would have held on to them lol. I was going through various videos of American version of these toys and I always thought there's something different about these toys but always attributed that to my childhood memory being fuzzy. Coming across your video confirmed that my memories were correct and I had no idea that Indian version of these toys were different. Damn, I wish I had held on to them, could have been rich lol.
This is a great continuation of the Argentinian part, it has my like.
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it!
I am really impressed Dan ! Thanks for capturing a part of my childhood growing up in India .
Cool, Dan. As a huge MOTU fan, these kinds of vids are always informative and appreciated.
Always a lot of fun seeing the toy we know in different colors from other countries. Like the funskool GI joes and others
love it. thanks for introducing me to some variations i didn't know much about!! :)
Such a brilliant video. Thanks for this video.
Wow. I reeeaally dig the Leo Skeletor.
Very cool.
Awesome video!
More like this!
🙂
Excellent video!! I had never seen these figures before.
Thanks, cool video. Loved it!
It would have been cool if you had the American version next to each variant for comparison.
I actually really like the colors used on a lot of these.
I am glad , pixel, that u made this. Thanks .
Great episode! Keep up the great work. I hope you cover more of these MOTU variants, and other toy lines in the future. You do a fantastic job; I envy you. :)
YESSSSS!!!!!! A “ToySplosion” episode. Thanks Dan.
I didn't know about the overseas He-man, figures. Faker is totally awesome. That was nice to see, I'd love to be able to collect just one of each figures made in the toy line. Wow.!
Smurf he man goes thug life. His mask paint totally looks like 8 bit shades.
I want a Scareglow shirt NOW. But great video, I also need a Leo Skeletor now too
Niceee a pixel dan video... almost forgot bout you for a min...thanks for the motu goodness hehe 🐊😸
I never realized how they re-released these toys but great video!
Fan: Leo Toys how did you determine when and what HE-MAN Figures would get paint variants?
Leo Toys: When the expensive paint runs out and the Filler Paint begins.
I heard Faker was created by accident, a bunch of He Mans fell into the blue dye used for Skeletor, but I haven't found anything online to confirm that. He was the hardest character to find, I spent the better part of 2.5 years searching, then they released the 2nd edition.
Figures aren't "dyed" thats the color of the injection molded plastic.
You sure did your homework on this motu history class. I liked this...had no idea of anything about this line in india.
My Faker was the one with the chest sticker. Never seen Extender before and my Skeletor had the plain face, but I had the rest.
And luckily i still have all of these figs wd me!
I feel sorry for you man.
Amazing video!!! 👏👏👏👏 David from Argentina
Love the versions of Skeletor and Faker, Skeletors skin in the mini comics was a darker blue than the common version
great stuff
Excellent job
Great video, you should investigate about the MOTU figures made in Venezuela by Rotoplast in 86 , love your shirt, where did you get it?
Awesome toys 😎 👍
Rock on, Dan!
Very cool.
Great shirt!
The Scare Glow on your Shirt is the Scare Glow form the Blistercard!
Motu IS Awsome
That power-con 2021 faker is based on this one?!!?! So cool, I was literally wondering what was up with his face.
Like the He Man, but love the Spanish one the most. I wish I can bump into one of these at a local fleamarket..🤓
I had multiple he men. I never got a skeletor (Cause he bad!).
I had battle cat, Extendor and Teela (for my sister).
Muy buen video mi buen amigo un saludo de parte del tío Gerry desde guadalajara jalisco 👍🏻
Always remember been off school sick and my dad walking through the door with roboto and il never forget the wierd smell of mossman
This version of Prince Adam reminds me of Pappagallo, as played by Mike preston from the film Mad Max 2.
Vid so good
Muy buenas figuras dan, algún día veré si voy a conocete
extendo is a cool character id love to own the motu classics one hes awesome
Just when you think youve seen everything HE-MAN had to offer.
These figures are sweaty looking and look like they are coming off of Pill Withdraw.
Leo Mattel MOTU toys are the best International Line
Skeletor and faker are awesome i hope to find them one day..
These are exactly the kinds you should be known for.
3:37 i like that Skeletor
:o I need that T-shirt Dan! Where did you get it?
Leo Toys Faker is awesome
It there a site that list all the MOTU variants?
I thought that faker was wearing glasses
I thought that too.
So did I. He does look cool though
Me to, I kinda wish he was now
Eyemask? Dan, you can't tell me that Faker isn't wearing sunglasses. He looks like the Terminator. XD
So, past protectionism (or just more market diversity, however achieved) is good for present-day collectors?
I like his t shirt.
Now I know why my skeletor is dark blue, always thought I had a bootleg.
Hey Curtis, what’s that over there. YOINK
India the land of many wonders . :)
where might I find that shirt?
4:07 - “collactors”
Are the new He-Man toys only available online
You know....if you watch the subtitled version as you scroll through the videos....CZcams messed up your show name....it called you Toys Blow Ian. Lol.
i found you a treat my freind for a channel that will give you nistaga and is called down from the attic and you should give it a try
My local action figure shop has a extendar and I’m gonna go see if it’s the variant
If you're in the US its highly unlikely an Indian figure is sitting in a shop. These guys are RARE.
@@chrisj2991 I actually had the extendar as a kid and I'm from India. Damn I wish I held on to them. Had all the ones Dan covered and had Cringer, Panther, Man at arms and more in addition to them.
I have some of those
Can I have em
I'm fro. Mumbai can you sell me some?
So I looked some stuff up, apparently there was also a Flying Fist he man with yellow armor, and a Green Tung Lasher from Hong Kong
Only green tung lashor is from The former Yugoslavia and 100% a dodgy bootleg
Buddy - Leo made motu in India starting 1981. What are you talking about?
Cool video! But is something going on with your mic? Feels like you're at a low volume and there's a lot of background buzz.
1 hour until Wundar pre orders start
IIam from India. I had all of them in 1990's ...sadly they were lost..or stolen maybe & i was nervous & broke. i don't remember as i was 6 or 7yrs of age. Today I still try to find these action figures in India. But iam unlucky to get even a single & also i had got a chance to buy a used HeMan figures complete set...but they were out of my state & were been sold at a huge price which again sadly i can't afford. Anyways i will still not loose hope. I will wait.😪
Can you cover the Brazilian transformers toys, it’s one of the weirdest variants of the line I’ve seen
All they received were a multitupe of recolored mini-cars. And "Salt Man Z" -really nothing to write home about.
Are you putting this out because you know something about a certain PowerCon exclusive that is a repaint??
the skeletor genuinely looks like a bootleg
I got them all
I'm.from mumbai. Can you sell me some?
I have so many figures and play sets but I lost all the accessories 😭
There were some more unique toys like He man coin bank and stickers
Wasn't there a figure like the one on your shirt. I can't remember his name.
@Rob Cook I thought so always wanted it.
Prince adam looks like Erik Estrada 😁😁
These rare figure videos are getting weirdly specific. Maybe you could make a video about Transformers someday.
where can i sell faker??
I can buy from you or exchange with anything of your liking
They were really trying hard with that extendar figure huh?
When I was a kid, I didn't much access to information about MOTU toys. I thought Faker was an error.
Elo
Were those molds fairly worn out by this point? Or are the mold lines this prominent on most MUTO toys?
I will hunt for those when I go to India, Insha Allah
I‘ve a „made in india“ mer-man, is this a rare one?
Sell it fo me I'm from mumbai...
ironically the toyline was never launched again in India
Figures from the 2002 re-boot were available at huge markup in 2003, but they were imports and not domestically produced
Fantastic work. Anyone who dislikes this video is a troll
Höhöhö... he said blow
Hi Pixel Dan I am from India I still remember having my price Adam but after 4 years it broke and my mother throw ed it so saad....
where can i sell my indian FAKER??
I'll take it
Extendar makes mechaneck obsolete
I THOUGHT IT SAID LEGO
Hello dude I got motu india figures from 1981. You got something wrong with the history....
They will still have the original date stamps from the original US release. Only "Made in India" was added to the figure molds.
@@chrisj2991 no no no... there was a Mattel factory in a city called Nasik. You can search this history which you dint know.. these were fully made in india..
I"m not gonna lie, I have a crush on you Pixel Dan!
ok ok......you got me, until this hero pops up........this looks so deep fake.
btw i was born 81´s and He-Man was my favorite toy a long long long time
