Been living in NYC for 12 years. Became a software developer after years of hearing the hype and meeting people who had managed to get themselves out of dead end jobs. Overall it was a great decision but still a long way to go before I can get to a level where I am making "New York money". People should be aware that even a salary of say 120k per year i not enough if you plan to live on your own in a nice modern apartment and have a good lifestyle here. You gotta be pushing close to 200k per year here to have all that stuff that is often shown in these vids so aim high and don't sell yourself short. Great job to the dude in this vid, looks like you are crushing it..your work setup is something I dream of lol.
Honestly its about searching the market! Been here for 5 years and started out making 80k a year and when i was I was in a modern studio on the upper west side right next to central park! 120k was what I was making 2 years ago and that allowed me to take care of myself and my wife decently! but 200k will have you set for sure!

With the current housing market, which was always the market in NYC, it’s important to clarify you moved with someone and not by yourself. That might take some people by surprise.
I’ve been in the industry for a long time, and it’s been super interesting seeing NY tech opportunities pop up. Also super interesting the difference working styles.

I'll be graduating from the Uni in few months. I'd say try to explore as much as you can, in computing if you're good, no matter what you're doing, you'll be paid good. The real question is what would you like to do? Only you can figure out the answer to it. Go to hackathons, meet-ups, make personal projects, contribute to open source, you're good to go, all the best mate.

You right about creativity, I'm 31 years remove from New york city. I left when I was 25 but I miss taking my power walk. When I'm feeling Black I uses to love waliking from 135 street to 125 street. I used to imaging I'm with Malcolm X or Marcus Garvey. I especially love going to the local book store. When I'm feeling creatice I love walking on Broadway. You'll be surpise the celebrities I came across. After I got about the Navy I wanted to be like Spike lee and go to NYU, I later wenrt to the Center for the media Arts. Fast foward to today I would love to began a tech Career. My problem is age and experience. I have A two year degree in Compuer networking. I also have an A+ and Security + Certification. My advice is don't give up. I'm still holding on the my dreams, I work for FEMA and hope to one day get transfer to IT. Good Luck.
As always, nice video, always a pleasure to watch!
Imagine living in Alaska, it’s tough out here. I’ve spent a lot of time in NYC and I miss it. I miss the hustle.
It’s harder to up and move with my wife and two kids but moving to NYC has never fully been out of my tech career picture. I’m really betting on the remote job market as a Software Engineer from Alaska
Glad to see you back! 🎉
I lived in NYC most of my life and found it is the best city in the whole world. The world comes to NYC. I absolutely agree it is the best place to meet people and find different career opportunities. I believe I’ve had great success as a freelance designer because I am based here. Much luck to you.
Thats dope man. idk what else to say, good luck with everything
Great motivational video, thank you!
Your videos are so cinematic!
I'm a software engineer who lives in Iran, for me just visiting new york once is a dream let alone living in it.
I really envy people like you who were born in good countries like yours, not garbage countries like mine.
Sorry to hear man, hope things pick up :(
I love your desk setup!
Move to DC and you'll get more offers and lower cost of a renovated bedroom bathroom suite. Will get richer faster.
as an east coaster, who lives in ohio bc of the military, who saw that you moved, and is about to grad with my BS and stopped mid career to finish my BS in Cybersecurity, i feel triggered... but i wanna work remote.. and move down south or to texas
Love it!!!
Goat
i mean sheesh, quality of vids has jumped with the move as well…💯
Bro was part of NSBE 😤 gang
Yes, I live in the Tech bubble in Virginia/DC/MD mostly on the VA side with data center while it's great always find a job. You will get stuck if you doing data-center work and need to move on from companies that will not move to new positions (aws) cough horrible company. Closer to DC you will find alot of tech jobs and event but more traffic and an expensive cost of living. Good luck to anyone moving to advance their Career in IT Field.
A positive video about nyc? Wow.
3:40 - 4:50
I think they asked you about adjusting b/c the new setting affects how one performs. Just my theory. I like to brainstorm psychology.
Dope content! Keep going
I like how he use an xxxl monitor just at the center like a 24 one and other three smaller monitor
But isn't NYC too expansive to live? Apartments are minimum $2000 per month
Welcome to NYC! I've been here my whole life. Self-taught for over 1 year now with JavaScript and learning Django (will learn node & Express later). What tech stack are you using?
The camera quality is amazing felt like i was watching a film 😭
Great video, Gyasi, as always. But OMG those wolf shirts?? Where can I get one of those?
I lived in NYC for couple of years.. I loved it. It's a shame that Americans keep degrading and demean America all the time.. due to whatever reason.. They project one off incidents as a general cultural problem. They need to go and live in other parts of the world to appreciate how lucky they are to be born in America.
"iI you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere."
I got a lut pack if you want it
Am in Marketing that would be essential to be over there if you are in tech. NY me too moving my consulting Business there.
see the Salesforce building
Come to DC!!! You'll thank me later bro 😎
How is Chicago for developers?
Your wife is beautiful. Yall are a beautiful couple.
Did this same thing but to Austin! Probably going to find myself in nyc though, was avoiding the cold initially 😂 great video! How did you start on your portfolio website? Did you start on a design you liked online then built from there?
Your editing game is so strong. How did you learn to edit and which software do you prefer?
Also a tech worker (Google) that moved from the midwest (Chicago) to NYC. Where do you find/hear about tech events?
Major keys were dropped in this video 🔑
Thanks!
Thank you fam 🙏🏾
Brand of conglomerating youtube brand we want.
Also my goal: to have as much conviction when making clickbait titles and hopefully emo- mapping thoughts and feelings to different people in different spaces. Like emo-web3. We r just going to stumble into it.
Thats crazy dudes be making mad money living in NYC and still say 'pacificly' instead of 'specifically'. The system works.
awesome video man - whats the small monitor you have on your desk?
Hey man, I’m going to university to go into computing, hopefully I’ll get to move to nyc in a few years. From your experience what route of computing should I go down to make the best money/ best experience
@@abhishekgururani6993 thanks man, I may go down the cyber security route
@@Aaronpurves1 go ahead, and if you feel bummed, try something else, "Keep iterating the loop until you find your passion"
I've been in the city for about 5 years. I just started working towards a career in frontend web development, but I'm in my thirties and have a lot of experience that isn't tech. I've been struggling to find good meetups and ways to network, but I know those opportunities are all over the city! Any advice for finding these meetups?
Nice ending
Bro Im in Jersey City and an engineer previously did some consulting after graduating the flatiron school bootcamp. Would you be open to a code and coffee chat? I recently moved from LA and needs some tips on navigating this market.
Bigger City, Bigger opportunities
Please. I just left NYC for Florida. I'm prepping to change careers to tech via CompTIA A+, Networking+ and Cloud+ certs. The quicker I break in the better. Don't tell me I gotta turn around and head back to NYC. I wanted out of there in the first place! lol
It's been 2 years man... just release the goddamn website
