I came here to ask if you had a ham license but I see below you don't. Bummer because I really like your videos on radio. Honestly man with your knowledge of GMRS you could probably take the Technician Class test and pass without even studying. The technician exam is super easy. And the question pool is available online for free. Run through them once and you could pass easily. I'm a General class and you know way more about radios than I do haha. Anyway, good content, subbed. I'm in eastern KY over near Grundy, VA. ~Jeremy KF4CHW

I have a test site near me it’s an hour away and really I don’t have time. Iv done stuff for years with radio and have said I was going to take the test but never did. If they offered it online I would do it today it’s the fact of taking 3-4 hours to go and do it. Thanks for watching

@@JDubbsadventure I believe youtube deleted my comment because i put a link in it (or perhaps you did lol) but you can take an exam online, although i've never done that and dont know the details. Lots of amateur radio clubs offer it online. Also - I like the telescoping flag pole mast you are using i'm looking at getting one similar to yours on Amazon and its alot cheaper than the antenna companies. Ham or not, I still enjoy your GMRS content.

@@JDubbsadventure Bro you don’t need it. GMRS does the job just fine for local comms.

Please stop encouraging everyone to put up GMRS repeaters up just to put them on internet nodes like GMRS live. If you’re wanting to do this as a hobby and connect with randos across the world/country use ham radio. GMRS was not designed for this and has exploded into everyone doing this. You’re disrupting mom and pop stores in cities and ranchers and farmers in the country who use low cost means of communications. There are only 8 repeater channels and they are all being taken up by people trying to turn GMRS into ham radio. I have 5 of the 8 repeater channels in my area used up on internet connected radios.

This was a well thought out comment, kinda closed minded though. We use gmrs on our farm an for camping in our area. the internet node is nice for example when I’m working on the farm (no cell service) I can use my radio to talk to my wife who maybe at work or at the house. I also use this node hunting camping and fishing. cell service is very sporadic in my area. The node makes it where my wife doesn’t Have to have a radio on her or be in range of the repeater. This is one example where this works great for my family and friends. I would call it encouraging as much as I would call it teaching how to do something. In my area gmrs isn’t used by anyone other than a hiker or the occasional hunter my local business use 70cm(illegally) or business radios. So I don’t see this as a problem. Gmrs wasn’t really “designed” per say radio frequency’s are naturally occurring thing we just harnessed them for different opportunities. I do appreciate the comment

If you want private comms get a business license and run encryption. If you just don't want to hear the neighbors use them "privacy" tones...it's the only thing ctcss is good for anyway.

@@chublez good idea. Family owned small businesses that have been using these for years should have to change what they’re doing for people turning GMRS into a hobby/fad.
