i've seen ALL of the Planet of the Apes. Thank you! stay safe and awesome everyone! xo
Great retrospect! I'm 62 and grew up with the originals being played on TV as special annual marathons. We made plans for a night of snacks and Heston (a favorite of ours). Happy memories in our orange shag carpet, wood paneled & bean bag chairs basement.
Yeah, my wife doesn't understand why I love this so much. I was like when I was a kid. It came on all day on TV s on Christmas and it was hosted by a Doctor Zaius type monkey.... When you're like 8 9 10 and haven't seen any of these movies and they're on every Christmas all day for the Christmas with the Apes marathon, you're gonna grow up loving them.
This was the best breakdown of not only the Apes fictional timeline but the franchise in general. I especially love some of the insane multimedia spinoff 😂
It was Earth all along.
Agatha shaking her fist
Couldnt he just Google what planet was he on? Smh...
You've finally made a monkey,
(Yes, we finally made a monkey!)
Yes, you've finally made a monkey
Out of me!
Damn youse.
@@Qoobon_ Google didn't exist then, and if it did, he'd still wouldn't have been able to find out. Because the infrastructure would have been destroyed for centuries.
“Don’t look for it Taylor; you may not like what you find”
I love his delivery.
My favorite detail of kingdom is when they go into the vault and find that human doll that talks like the older movie. It’s a very small detail most people miss.
When I saw them riding on the beach, my eye caught an oddly shaped island in the background, which looked like the Torch from the Statue of Liberty.
saw it in 1968 as a 7 year old . I was blown away by the ending.
Okay, extra points for that 5 Fingers that make a Fist metaphor. Evocative and accurate!
That's pure Kevin Maher, the writer, who coined that phrase -- @AtomicAbe
This vid is priceless. I can’t imagine the amount of work that went into narrating and editing the films. Thank you ❤
34:18
I... did not expect we would go to THAT direction
Fox would have never had to sell xD
When i was a kid, my uncle had a 10 minute 8mm reel of battle for the planet of the apes; the big battle scene. Seeing this vid just sent me back in time
Mark Lenard played a Romulan commander in TOS "Balance of Terror", a Vulcan, Spock's father, Sarek (TOS and TNG), and a Klingon commander attacking V'Ger in the beginning of ST: TMP
"It's all about leather-clad apes with guns riding horses."
My first thought was "that's not what Doctor Who's about" because I realised what the whole paragraph was.
Easily among the best videos you’ve ever made. Great work.
"Somehow Palpatine returned" LOL everytime!!
I just showed my 2 and a half year old “Dinosaurs” and she absolutely loves it. Man does it bring me back.
Wow the amount of research carried out by screen crush is phenomenal
I had some of the Mego action figures in the 70s. But by the time I finally got Lizard and was ready for him to take of Spiderman, I'd broken my Spiderman. So poor Cornelius got his head pulled off and replaced with Peter Parker's head and outfit. Cornelius died so Peter Parker could take on Curt Connors.
It's a shame Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes never got a follow up especially with that ending
Big facts
I mean... is it though? If it had, we might never have gotten Rise
It wasn't meant to be and we got a brand new Apes trilogy and now a new trilogy
I kinda feel that the trilogy makes up for the Tim Burton film. We may not have got these otherwise.
I remember the social media marketing which was cutting edge at the time. I was disappointed but I loved Tim Roths performance, I thought the costume with CGI has stood the test of time. Helen BC not so much
I think it was for the best that there was never a follow-up. I'm sure that Burton had some idea of what to do but it would likely have been too convoluted and confusing and just would have made it worse than it already was.
The diving crash of the Icarus sounds more like a pitched-up version of the "fusion core" of the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space, than the Batmobile engine.
GREAT video. Excellent summary of the movies and all the pop culture references, HUGE POTA fan here!
THANKS RYAN AND SCREENCRUSH I LOVE THIS FRANCHISE SO MUCH CANT WAIT TO WATCH WITH YALL
Great job, really enjoyed this video
Ive been waiting for this timeline recap.
Thank you so much I’ve been waiting for this
That was the fastest 50 minutes. So well done. Thank you for the hard work ❤
I was just literally watching all of these at work on Sunday and now you guys make a recap video oh man I love you guys Ryan and Doug 😂❤
6:29 The original sequel to 101 Dalmatians. That is one fucked up book.
Thanks for the amazing video ❤
Nicely done screencrush team! Thank you for this!
The series is so good but I’d honestly have to say that the newer ones are definitely better then the others
I think the original movie is the best individual movie but the newer series is the better series by far
I really appreciate this. I have no time to watch them all but was always curious about the story. So thank you for this!!
Really interesting video you guys put together. Planet of the Apes (the entire world and lore) is so much deeper than I ever realised!
Thanks to Ryan, Kevin, Randolf, Lee, Ashley, Rachel and Paulina! 🦧
There was also the allegation of Kevin Smith that Burton ripped off the POTA ending from him.
Dude absolutely greatness. Love this brake down of all of those older and newer movies and shows and music wtf lol.
Yoooo Ryan !!! Long time listener first time caller. More long form content pleaseeeeeee
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS
Outstanding video, guys. A+++
I love every Ape I see…from Chimpan-A to Chimpan-Z…
Great vid now im gonna start watching them again tonight starting with the first 2🤟
Doctor Zeus,Doctor Zeus
Doctor Zeus, Doctor Zeus...
Zaius*
If it's taken 36 years for a Beetlejuice follow up then there's hope foe Tim sequel. But I always thought where Mark crash landed, he had severe concussion and that was a dream. So inconclusive end
Seen all the movies and the 70s television series however, the 1968 original stands head and shoulders above the rest. You were right; the first movie contains so many hidden messages that you could write a thesis about them.
Great job everyone. The Apes movies always creeped me out as a kid in the 80s as wrapping my head around time travel, alternate timelines, and the apocalypse was scary. Plus the makeup creeped me out!
Respect I like how you did this and the video was good and informational
23:02 - I still have that DVD box set. Sold the ape bust on eBay the same week I recieved it. I just wanted the DVD set.
I always liked the Mark Wahlberg version.
6:08 honorable mention: "Kingdom of the Spiders".
Thank you for this break down. I love all the old ones. I do like the new ones as well. I get them remaking some of them to catch up with the times and to add in what they wanted in old ones that may not have been in the budget or they had a better or different idea after all these years. If you have a franchise like this you kinda have to look at the old to be able to understand the new or at least respect it. Kinda like the new star track to the new star wars and so on. Also I cant help but think you little dog looks like an Ewok an is adorable. I have 2 dogs Kylo Ren and Ben Solo they are my service dogs. :)
There were two events that were pivotal in me becoming a sci-fi fan: In 1973, at 8 or 9 years old, I discovered Star Trek reruns on Saturday afternoons. About the same time, I saw Planet of the Apes on TV for the first time. By the time Star Wars rolled around when I was 12, it was my genre of choice.
23:49 Live stage shows are also a tradition for Japanese superhero franchises like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. To THIS DAY, they still host live stage events for the currently airing series.
to me the way eddie murphy described the go ape for a day how excited he looked reminded me of midnight movie showings or gamestop midnight luanches.
One of my favourite film series almost entirely based on the first film and Escape from. Amazing films
Probably my favourite vid you've done. I'm a big fan of POTA but obviously not as big as I thought!
They also had some good parody scenes in “Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back”
Beneath was so grim. Left a mark.
A friend of mine saw the live planet of the apes on horseback thing when he was a child. Said it was as high quality as you would expect.
I love your pup!
These are one of those videos I wish would never end
22:52 That Fred Flintstone clip was voiced by Alan Reed, not Henry Corden. Your information is incorrect. Henry Corden voiced Fred Flintstone beginning in the 1970s around the time Alan Reed passed away.
I never got why the statue is such a big reveal if it was already stablished this was the future with the talking doll
That's because taylor kept saying he was on another planet! Wasn't you paying attention? That's why the audience was shocked by the ending in 1968. I know. I was there! There was a big gasp in the theater!
@@dolphinsrr yeah, but the doll already proves they are on future Earth, that's what I'm saying
30:23 man I just remembered I saw this in the theater
I personally have it on DVD. Martians are still creepy. OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
@@davidchism6081 I was talking about the 2001 Planet of the Apes
Tarzan on the planet of the apes is by far the best comic book in the story. All about hatred and fear leading to eventual destruction but love may stop it. Dr. Zaius as the Watcher role. Fantastic.
What bothers me about the original 1968 movie is something I never seen mentioned in the comments. I’m talking about the gaping plot hole in the very premise. Astronauts crash land on a planet run by apes who speak English, and they converse with the apes in English. But they can’t figure out that they’re still on earth? How stupid is that?
I just assumed the guy playing Quint was telling a real story about his life
Fun fact: The MPAA was going to ding the movie up a rating because of the 'God Damned' swearing, but they were talked out of it by explaining that no that wasn't Taylor swwearing. he is literally invoking God to torch the place.
No mention of the POA reference in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"!
All i remember from tim burtons planet of the apes is mark whalbergs breathing
24:20 THE CHURCH OF THE ROCK EASTER PLAY OMFG JENNIE
Too late, I already watch Onetakes video and I loved it
Yeah, I think that the half human boy would of been a bit distracting, it would of turned the film into an unintentional dark comedy with people yucking out when we find out if it was mum or dad that was an ape. 😂
Good to see that a Wallis and Gromit clip was used, it's good to see that the cartoons went further than just UK Christmas TV fodder.
The studio liked all the money the films were bringing in and wanted more but they wouldn't pay for a decent production standard, stupid idea.
Great vid SC I been on a big PoA kick lately. This hit the spot
This is one of my favorite franchises
I love your videos. I do. Truly. I love this video. But, Ryan, Gary Oldman is terrific in "Dawn" and "Dawn" is the best of that trilogy. It is an amazing film from start to end just like "Batman Begins," - meaning that there is literally no filler and every scene is just right. Gary was not meant to be the big bad of that film like Woody was in "War." Gary was meant to be someone who doesn't understand the connection with the apes like Jason Clarke did, but that was because he wasn't conversing with Caesar all throughout the events of that film, and also because he already lost his family where Jason Clarke still had his son and another romantic connection with Keri Russell. I mean, when they get power back in the city and Gary's iPad comes to life, displaying images of the family he had lost from the virus, it is a heartbreaking scene. Hence, you were supposed to connect with this man and understand him and not see him as the warmonger and big baddy that Woody perfectly played in "War." And again, just IMO of course, "Dawn" is a perfect film. Well, okay, almost perfect. The only part of "Dawn" that I don't like is the character of Carver as he is just overly hateful and one of those bad written characters that is just there to move the story along, and never listens or connects with obvious reasoning. I would actually say, even though his character is poorly written, he is actually meant to be the "bad human character" of that film. Other than Carver, that film is amazing and is still the best of the bunch - including the newly introduced "Kingdom." I give my commentary here with all due respect as you and your videos are really terrific, and I thank you for them.
Thank you!
Love the video. The Apes universe is as rich as any other scifi ip.
there is also a Dog centric universe in an episode of family guy .Where Brian is a person owned by a dog "Griffin" family
The Palpatine line gets me every time 😂😂😂
i like how kingdom and the other movies are like a replay of all the old movies cool little details you never see other franchises take from the old and still tell those those same stories man and koba still the best protag enemy decade later and ceasar influence still there one of the best movie protagd next to others
I loved the original movie, but even as a child, I wondered , if he was on another planet, why the apes spoke and wrote English.
No in war the use of the Word Kong was for King Kong. It had nothing to do with the Vietnam war.
What is that Iron Man stage play at 24:19? I know they did a live version of ROGERS: THE MUSICAL but I don't remember this scene. 😉👍
David watson played Cornelius in beneath. Not Roddy McDowell
The first time I saw the original was in the 70's, I was in elementary school. I already knew the ending. I just rewatched it today. And it still holds up very well. But it sure seems to me that it should have been obvious to most viewers he was on Earth all along. Especially when the find the artifacts of an ancient human civilization with a talking doll human. Seems like at that point, if not sooner, it would have been obvious.
I mustn't tell a lie... I have only ever seen the second film. And for all my life up until tonight, I thought it was the first.

Where can I watch the twilight zone edit?!
The site was taken down, but if you google "film scalpel" and Planet of the Apes Twilight Zone, you can find it.
DOUTOR Renato Aragão no Screen Crush. Chega de internet por hoje
That first one was super popular. Almost as popular as Birth of a Nation
Maybe someone said it but the rating for the original film was G in a time when there was no PG or PG-13. The next rating was M for mature…closer to like a borderline pg-13/R rating, perhaps. Then it was R and X. I remember my dad teaching me all about when he rented all five films for a weekend marathon when I was a kid.
In my opinion this was the best planet of the apes movie ever I never really liked any of the other movies but this one was great in my opinion
Hey, that's awesome but which one do you mean? LOL
@@WireHedd the newest movie lol
The first movie was rated G (General Audiences) when it came out. However in the first few minutes of the movie there is a scene where the guys are swimming and it shows full frontal male nudity. Much different than what is considered a G rating today.
Caesar’s Story is what I used thru the years to get my “Apes” fix
I’d love to watch The Twilight Zone mashup but couldn’t find it on CZcams.
Does anyone know if Caesar's son Cornelius in the new movies, supposed to be the same Cornelius character that Roddy McDowell played in the originals?
Damnation alley!!! "I love it when a plan comes together."
I always had a small crush on Zira 😅 im only 38 but as a kid she was such a cute ape with a sweet heart
"Some people may be intimidated by all the lore..." That is unless you're a Warhammer 40k fan in which case you just chuckle and go, "Not me." ;)
Zanuck also got his girlfriend (and future wife) Linda Harrison cast as Nova...
