I said this before, and I’ll say it again: Street Fighter 6 is Capcom’s make-or-break title. If the game fails to reach the masses critically, it will be the end of Capcom’s long reign over the FGC. It could be the end of their FG division, sorry if this sounds too exaggerated (it definitely is).
If we wanna save Capcom’s _other fighters_ (Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, Power Stone, Cyberbots, Red Earth, Star Gladiator, Saturday Night Slam Masters, etc.), then we need to show them that we still care, but at the same time, show that we won’t put up with their shady tactics anymore. Barebones vanilla release, unnecessary advertisements, mixed Rollback online, eSports promotions; those things have to stop, have to go.

Fighting games will continue to exist and evolve (especially with rollback), with or without Capcom.

Although fighting games in general were struggling after the 90s.... the "Dark Ages" only happend to Capcom Fanboys.... GGear began, the 3D fighters kept making a game for themselves and outputting new titles (Tekken, DOA, and VFighter), MK re-invented itself and kept the spirit alive, and of course SNK had some titles to show as well.... So no, the period was missing capcom, but it wasn't like "there wasn't anything new to play"....
For this game in question, it was the only updated version of SF4 that actually deserve a repackage due to the bonuses and 10 characters when compared to the future update/re-releases (arcade and ultra) edditions, but Ur correct, it was sold on a lie at the end of things....
I'm looking forward to continued coverge on fighting games, specially SNK's. Thanks and keep up the great work

People wanted DLC but the original set up was not set properly for those kind of updates at the time. So they opted for a DLC pack and just update everything at once. Also the updates were very generous was 14.99 AE: 2012 was free. Ultra was also 14.99 and all you needed was Super SFIV to do it. Also Ultra had a mode to play old versions of those characters.

There's an enormous difference between telling people something and knowing you're not telling the truth and what happened here. Capcom released new versions of the game because the players kept asking for more. The competitive scene was going hard core and releasing new versions with more characters was going to be the only way to keep the game alive, plain and simple. This is also why those newer versions all replaced the previous versions at retail.
So if anything, the title of this video is much more a lie than anything Capcom did or said.

I just bought the new "season pass". Technically it sounds like Ono kept his word. I was not forced to go out and buy a new full game. Just pay for the update DLC as Ono mentioned. I was not forced to buy a new street fighter 4. I was FORCED to update the definitive game lol. Still a good video as always :D! EDIT: also if it was different in your region I retract my statement. 1: I bought the special edition of Street Fighter 4 and went to sell it back to Gamestop to only get a middle finger of a refund.
2: I ended up Pre Ordering Super Street Fighter 4 and got these thumb wrestler cover of 2 characters.
3: How much I hated the fact that another version of Street Fighter 4 was announced after and I had enough already of CAPCOM milking every Street Fighter with another upgraded version so i got rid of SSF4.
4: I only play the classic Street Fighter Alpha Anthology on my ps2 and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection with all the Street Fighter 2 plus Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike with it if I want to play Street Fighter now.

Capcom Really Drove Me Crazy During The Street Fighter 4 Era.
Shortly After My Dad Bought His Ps3 (Which Became Mine), I Bought Sf4 Shortly After It Was Released.
And Then Came The Teasers Of Super Sf4. The Lineup Of New Characters (Particularly Juri, Guy And Cody) Made Me Buy It With No Regrets. I Was Hoping Capcom Would Not Make Another New Version.
Sometime Later I Bought Super Sf4 Arcade Edition When Its Price Went Down. I Liked Evil Ryu So I Bought It And Ended Up With 3 Versions Of Sf4 In My Inventory.
When I Finally Saw Ultra Sf4, I Went “No More! No More! Shame On You, Capcom, For Making Me Over-Spend On Your Nasty Habits!” I Didn’T Bother To Buy Ultra As Most Of Its New Line-Up Of Characters Were Already Present In The Other Capcom Masterpiece - Street Fighter X Tekken. Also, None Of This Game’S New Characters Looked Interesting To Me.
I Managed To Sell Sf4 And Super Sf4 For Some Loose Change. All I Have Now Is Super Sf4 Arcade Edition. And Playing As Juri And Evil Ryu Is Already Enough For Me. It’S Like How Many Gamers Chose Street Fighter 2 Special Champion Edition Over Super Street Fighter 2 During The 16-Bit (Sega Mega Drive) Era.

If you bought the Super Street Fighter Four disc, you could buy paid downloadable content which are all the future versions for anywhere from five bucks to 20 bucks depending on how major the difference between the last step and the newer step is.
And the funny thing is all those versions of Street Fighter 4 except the original vanilla version are accessible with any combination of super and beyond disc and downloads make up the rest.

Here's my SF4 story. I preordered from Game Crazy. They got shorted as they always did, and I didn't get my preorder until the 2nd shipment, and they tried to steal my preorder coin and act like I wasn't supposed to get one. I specifically recall sitting in Outback Steakhouse about to head over, and getting the phone call from them. I was really upset. That was the last game I ever preordered with them, and let them know every time after where they tried to pressure me into a preorder. I still own my SF4 TE fightstick my wife surprised me with. Still one of the favorite things I own. Mained Vega, then Rose, then Juri until they nerfed her in "arcade edition" there at the end.
I loved the music. I loved the art. The stories were adorable and light hearted. The new characters were on point. Ultra was great. I didn't appreciate the ludicrous punishing curve of single player mode. And always bugged me how the NPCs didn't wear alt-skins that I purchased. Netcode was pretty bad but I overall had a lot of fun.

I remember that announcement. SFIV had a neat idea. But..
Going back before SF3 (as it was the future)
    So IV is 2.5 🤦‍♂️
Great soundtrack, art style, roster, and everything else.
But it was frustrating when Ultra was released later. Like yeah, we all had that feeling.
Roster did feel a bit bloated. But it was neat they brought so many in. And full circle with Final Fight.
There was an animation based on IV. "The Ties That Bind". Supposed to connect the main narrative from original edition of IV. But the animation style was... Um.. not so great. And neither was the story.. just okay.
The animation scenarios in game of IV looked better in comparison. But a plus, the soundtrack was included with the film.
I do love IV, but Ultra really pushed it. But I really wish we had an SF entry after 3TS.
And V also did a step back being before 3..
Does SF fear moving forward or am I seeing things?

Ultra Street Fighter IV was a result of three things.
    1. Street Fighter x Tekken 2012 update failing to revive the game.
    2. Negotiations with Sony lead to them funding a port of Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter V for the (at the time) upcoming PS4.
    3. Capcom were knee deep in financial issues going into what is now current gen.
That's why they ported all the stages and all the characters they could pull from Street Fighter x Tekken. To play devil's advocate, anybody who actually waited 7-8 years to play complete version wasn't ever going to get it with the new shiny thing around the corner. Seeing a pattern yet?
I hate these practices but some point you either buy it for dirty cheap with the DLC or never play it at all.

At least it wasn't like the 1990s where fans or arcade operators had to buy completely new versions of the game. Super SF4 was sold at discount for those who already owned SF4, and Ultra also wasn't a $60 release. It's kind of annoying in the sense that you have to re-learn aspects of the game that were modified for the new version, but at the same time, it helped inject new life into the online community so it was easier to find matches. I saw these updates as quality of life upgrades, and it made SF4 a relevant game for longer than if it was just vanilla SF4 the entire time.
