    What made this game really special and stand out to me was because of the solid core gameplay and the passion and effort the fgc put into it (they really showed what sf4 was capable of/had to offer). Watching all those sf4 tournaments and high quality/level matches from top players from all over the world was a real treat as a fan of competitive fighting games.

    I WOULD DIE TO RE-LIVE THE EVO YEARS from 2009-2013! As a true 90s kid who grew up obsessed with classic and legendary SF2/CE/TURBO I would choose SF4 era anytime over SF2.. My memories from arcades and SNES seem not so great anymore.. whenever I remember the SF4 online ranked grind, the endless lobbies with my online buddies, watching every night YogaFlames24 channel with replays from the best online players, practicing my plinking on Sakuras tatsu loops or my unblockable set ups and last but not least.. EVO tournament was hella hype, daigo, infiltration, mago, tokido, fuudo, haitani, uryo, poongko, gamerbee, PR balrog, Bonchan.. its been 10 years and I still remember everything like it was yesterday.. SF5.. I really tried, gave it plenty of chances, season 1, season 2 but game felt like snoozefest and very dumbed-down for my taste..

    It was pretty cool when I lived in Los Angeles in 2011 and one day thought 'are there any arcades around here?' - I used google maps and found one on Vermont called 'Family Arcade', and cycled there. Along with tons of retro games, they had SFIV and there was a big following. I got to verse a lot of people who were very skilled. Also at the time, there was 'Tokyo Arcade' in Little Tokyo, LA. I remember challenging a few people and beating them there. Yes, SFIV brought back the fans to the point that I could go somewhere and challenge them in person.

      Far from odd, it was for the fans. 3 was not ported until early 2000s outside some DC releases. Which was a low selling console. EX was quite different and the old developers shooting for a 3d version and played much different. Alphas probably most popular but the Marvel games did the best.

    • @helloman3676
      @helloman3676 Před 4 lety

      Because SF4 is gimmicky and flashy, whereas SF5 is solid and fundamentals. People like flashy stuff but as a game SF5 is the most balance fighting game ever made. Like 3rd strike, it has some of the greatest highlights of all time but compared to SFIV, it falls short of balance and solid fundamentals. Same thing can be said about 4 and 5. SFV looks boring but it will be better for the long terms of SF Franchise. Just look at how many young new champions we have been getting. Punk, Fujimura ect. But the greatest thing about SFV is the returning of old legends. Sako, Haitani, Ricky Ortiz, Tokido ect. All the pros agreed on one thing, SFV is what a street fighter game should be. Simple, Barebones with a little flash.

The dynamic camera in Battle Fantasia also had more of an influence than the EX series, which is why the camera zooms in for supers and ultras, and not just throws. SFIV is still a fun game.

    Excellent coverage of "The SFIV saga". I totally understand there is a ton to cover, due to the variations in gameplay, structure, and design.
    IV to me definitely brought back that energy the series was missing. After Third Strike, it felt like an honest finality, similar to Garou Mark of the Wolves. In a sense Capcom & SNK still inspire one another.
    Even though both of their titles were a send off. Not knowing if there would be any more.
    I do love the IV saga. However I miss the ability to access unlockable art, cinematics, and music. Which is what the original IV contained. It was weird how all of that was gone after each iteration.
    It is a neat concept giving us fans more access to the game. Exploring the journey, it's growth, and evolution. I cannot wait to see what you cover next.

    Man this game just came at the perfect time and re-ignited everything! A really important historical game. An actual genuine game changer. Loved this game to death when it came out, the only thing I found shit about it was the music lol the new music sucked IMO specially (at the time, but now it's nostaligic so I love it! :D) the "Indestructible" k-pop main theme song. It was so bad lol that they got rid of it after a while. Ohh and also Seth was such a shit underwhelming character for a boss. Apart from that everything was awesome. Then Madcatz came along and gave us the TE stick. Perfect arcade parts at home for pretty much the first time that you could just buy out of a shop.

      Feel exactly the same about SFIV iterations. I kinda have a grudge with its completely gimmicky OST, finding the OG remixed tracks being way too generic (altough I can totally see they were going for a retro comeback/tribute way of thinking).
      However, I believe this is my only complaint about this game (I can even tolerate Seth as the final Boss, LOL). Everything else about this game was just tuned to perfection, and the wait was totally worth it.
      My overall feeling with this game is that of being thankful to it. It was such a breeze to have a competitive action packed vibrant fighting game in an era where games got used to be plain and repetitive, both on gameplay and on aesthetics design.
