Can You Use a Battery Powerbank to CHARGE a MacBook? (testing M1 MacBook Air & Pro)

  • If you're a frequent traveler, student who spends hours in the library studying, or simply forget to charge your laptop for the day, have you ever wondered if you could use your battery powerbank to charge your MacBook?
In this video I use an Anker USB-C PD Powerbank and try to power and charge my M1 MacBook Air and Pro. To my surprise, it actually works quite well. It may not necessarily recharge your laptop super fast, but it should significantly increase the life of a single charge allowing you to use your MacBook much longer than you usually would be able to.

It was actually a 6% increase in ¼ of an hour. With the low power consumption of the M1, this will definitely make for a significantly longer up time. Great tip!

Just to add my experience to the pool, I have an older RavPower powerbank. It's model number RP-PB043. It is rated for 20100mAh. The USB-C output is rated for 3A at 5V, which is 15W. There is no PD marking anywhere on it. I can confirm that I can run my M1 MacBook Pro on it and it will charge while in use. Currently seeing 57% right now with 3h 22m until fully charged, and the power bank does get quite warm to the touch.
Thanks for the video; I just wanted to be sure the MacBooks weren't using some other voltage for power delivery that might fry one of my devices, and I found much more useful info here than just that.

Thanks a million!

yea it’s been possible since the 2015 12” macbook, just that the M1 models are now more efficient and when the device is running mostly on just the little(efficient) cores, the power consumption is drastically less than any intel processor, thus making this a more viable option with even just an 18w-output battery

I wanted to avoid a 20000 mah charger because I am trying to pack super light and they are more bulky than I would like. The nb10000 is the lightest battery pack you can buy at 10000 mah. It’s amazing.
