#PatMcAfee #NFL - Sport
Many NFL owners became billionaires THROUGH their teams (Bears, Steelers, Giants) or bought them decades ago, whereas the top list mostly consists of industry titans spending a small portion of their wealth on a team, so it’s incomparable.
There hasn’t been that many teams up for sale in the NFL, especially in the last decade, for these mega billionaires to be able to get in. And why would there be? Revenues and team values are increasing every year, why would you ever sell your team now unless you were being forced to.
You’re absolutely right. There’s also only 32 NFL teams to buy. So rare. Which makes it super prestigious in America. In European football ⚽️ for example, there are so many clubs in different countries for mega billionaires and oil rich states to invest in.
Yes, Art Rooney bought the Steelers in 1933 for $2,500.
@@rayontita1912 well how many divisions of pro futbol does england have alone a shitload
@@jefferytokarsky1930 That's 54,983.72 today.
@@HaploPrime Probably what it would cost for a loge on the 20 yard line at Heinz Field for a season not including catering.
Jerry Jones should have been on the list his net worth is 11.6 B and the lowest guy on the list was 10.7 B
AJ is spot on, I found it hilarious that Pat and the crew were surprised by how much money is made by charities, and foundations are the huge ones.
The game is rigged folks.
I think the surprise was the way AJ worded it. The first time he spoke it sounded like he had inside info on a specific charity. Like he knows someone that is scamming people.
Can you say Clinton Foundation
@@jackbennett3133 can you say all red and blue foundations
There’s a reason Tepper is so hungry to win, and why he’s so aggressive with his spending to try and find a Franchise QB/coaching staff etc. it’s because he already has money, and just loves football. Other owners, love money, and already have a football team.
If someone has a net worth of over 10billion, NO city should be using taxpayer money to build and give them a stadium.
Well if your city doesn't they'll find a place that will pay lol that's how business works
You don't seem to understand how business operates......
@@butterxo3094 Have you ever considered that isn't a good business model for American taxpayers, the people who drive the economy?
@@TellricPeak314 the stadium also can help boost the economy by bringing in events and jobs which I think is the goal of the city. Also most of that net worth of people if tied to companies so they don’t have billions in liquid assets which I think is a problem
@@butterxo3094 Should does not imply realism. It implies idealism. Ideally no one should have that much money anyway but they do, and if the U.S ever tried to do something about it, these billionaires would take their businesses elsewhere, but that doesn't mean the 'should' changes.
And the tech owners teams have very little to nothing to show for their investments besides being empty trophies. Every NFL team is profitable and that's a far stretch for other sports leagues.
Yeah I'm a panthers fan and ever since tepper took over we've sucked
@@dogsrule-sj2iv To be fair we sucked when he took over. Here's to hoping one of this QBs in the draft turn out great.
@@sheed619 yeah but ever 2 or 3 years we were good since teppers taken over its just been bad decision after bad decision
Paul Allen (Cofounder of microsoft) and previous owner of the seahawks would have made the list at 20 billion had he not died in 2018.
Newcastle United are literally owned by the state of Saudi Arabia & Manchester City are owned by the UAE
You can be owned by a whole afse country??
@@bjtgaming the UAE owns an airliner why not a team
@@radicalbarrel2729 Yeah I guess
Saudi royal family is worth like 1.35 trillion
Mitt should be on the Forbes list of biggest sewage sauce spillers
Who cares about net worth? The owner with the biggest flex in sports is the Glazers, imagine getting to call Tom Brady and Cristiano Ronaldo your employees 😂
Owning a rubberband company. Now that's a big flex.
Facts
Tepper can’t afford to pay for his new practice facility though…
Exactly
Bruh, this man has a $16.7 Billion net worth but yet he can't pay for a new practice facility.. smh.
As a Panthers fan I am not a fan of his running this team. There’s many reasons I can point out.
That list is not accurate at all. The richest owners in sports are in Football (soccer). Manchester City are literally backed by a whole country. Their owner Sheikh Mansour is part of the Abu Dhabi royal family and they are rumored to be worth a Trillion dollars.
The Newcastle owners are far richer
The list was for sports that matter. Not soccer lmao
A lot of these owners bought low or inherited their teams and use the profits as their primary income
Pat says "The amount of money that some of these folks have now a days is something that I assume when they wrote the laws in this country they never thought some people could accrue or acquire that amount of cash". Well Pat it's all relative to the era and inflation, Howard Hughes was the first Billionaire back in the 1950's, but there were the Industrialists who had so much money that they built Universities such as Vanderbilt, Stanford, Carnegie-Melon and others. My parents bought a candy bar in 1935 for $0.05 and I was able to buy it in 1970 for $0.07 and you can buy it today in 2020 for $1.69. It's anecdotal but it can actually be applied to almost everything other than high price items that became more common and relatively cheaper with time.
Its not that serious 😒
@@0P9ine Maybe not but there are also some people who hang onto every word of their public hero. Pat McAfee business isn't serious except for those whose world is sports and for those whose world is money and today those who will want to make him a social and political tool as they have when he's had Aaron Rodgers speak.
Im confused by this point, because all you are referencing in yearly inflation, not the actual distribution of wealth in general
@@concussionman4000 Inflation and distributions with an "S" are completely different things. Inflation is dictated by the cost of money, debt,, fiscal policy, monetary policy, supply and demand. That's speaking as a CPA. So what's your question? Maybe I can answer it.
Tepper be in the owner meetings looking at the others like they are peasants 😂😂
LOVE this show!
There are nations/states that own football (soccer for people in USA) 😂 now those owners are the real rich owners 😂
Wealthiest owner is Jody Allen of the Seahawks (~20bn net worth). Sister of late Paul Allen co founder of Microsoft.
That’s so funny
“ naw you stfu you have no money lol
Yeah this list makes no sense.. Newcastle, Manchester City and Chelsea should be top 3 by far
Abramhovich is nowhere near being top 3 by far
PSG rather than Chelsea
Pat lives under a rock. He’s always shocked about news everybody already knows. Lol
Tepper also has some yinzer background Pat.
Here in lies the real issue with the NFL and guaranteed contracts. The owners don’t want to be put guaranteed money in escrow accounts because a lot of them are cash poor. Like the Khalil Mack/Raiders situation. Mark Davis couldn’t afford the guarantees. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out how much debt most NFL owners are swimming in
Man if this isn’t the truth 🙌
That's cause Paul Allen died. He was the richest NFL owner. By far.
Let’s see Paul Allen’s net worth
@@austin_madore9417 well Paul Allen was the co creator of Microsoft. His net worth was 20+ billion at the time of his death.
@Austin Look it up, it's super easy to verify lol. He had a lot more money than this Panthers Owner. He also owned 3 sports teams. Seahawks (NFL) Trail Blazers (NBA) Sounders (MLS)
Ok but people die though. This list is made annually. It's not like they waited til he died to make this list just to snub him.
I would of thought stan kroenke would be floating with these guys
I think newcastles owners are in the 300billion range
What's that
Woahhh woahhh AJ, shots at “non profits”
I'm honestly surprised that Kroenke (Arsenal/Rams), Glazers (United/Bucs) or Jerry aren't on the list
Most of Jerry money tied up in the cowboys, Kroenke I’m surprised about though. Dude is wealthy and if you take his wife Walmart fortune he’s definitely top 5 on that list
not to mention he owns the Denver Nuggets too
i love Jody and the Allen family, and everything they've done for Seattle, but the Seahawks need a new owner. We need someone who can flip the entire organization over. As long as we've got Pete (and possibly to an extent Schneider) we're gonna be stuck in a 2010's mindset, and its gonna slowly turn us into the Jacksonville of the NFC
Big facts!
Oh no
Dang that's a lot of Richard.
I’m pretty sure that’s because he just bought the team a few years back
Rich people speaking about filthy dirty rich people....Meh.
World football has way richer owners lol. Too bad they considered Man City and PSG’s ownerships as a group and not a person otherwise both would easily be #1 and #2
The Glaser's own Man U. and the Bucs.
Newcastle United also, maybe
@@Mwoods2272 I understand that but their net worth is pocket change compared to Man City’s owners especially. That family is estimated to be worth close to $1 Trillion. They can buy the entire NFL, NBA and MLB 2x over and still be Multi Millionaires.
@@zacwoods Are you aure about that? The ownership groups have stakeholders, meaning theres no outright owner. Yes those middle eastern royal familes are super rich but if they arent 100% owners of teams then are they really owners? Plus the owners on the list actually made their money through tech and business and not through royal inheritance
There will be a shift in ownership in the NFL in the coming years, but despite all that the Jones family will still run the league
Tampa is owned by Glazer siblings, add that together they would be top 10 lol (They inherited Manchester United as well)
Charities and non-profits are full of it. I know a president of a major charity and she pays herself 6 figures. She justifies it by saying people in her position in for-profit jobs get paid way more. Do not give money to anything unless you know exactly where that money is going.
Soccer(Football) teams are literally owned by states how they ain’t at the top of the list
Because soccers not a sport duh
They only count the individual owners
Tepper taking over the panthers is far from a good sign. Nobody in charlotte is happy with his ownership.
NFL owners became billionaires via their team, other sports leagues normally have billionaires, further than that, NFL is the one league that doesn’t take care of its employees as well, take care of the athletes and the bread follows
NFL spends around 48% of revenue on players. It is part of the NFL Players Union negotiated contract.
@@timkinley1779 revenue is one piece of the pie for taking care of your players. After retirement they aren’t taken care of the same way NBA players are
@@TrillBuckets That's not acurate. The average NFL career is 3 years. Multiplied by 53-man roster plus IR plus practice squad. The NFL has lifetime insurance for a sport with a 100% injury rate. Retirement plans are regulated by federal law and the CBA. There are over 1700 players in the NFL compared to around 500 in the NBA (5-year career). So every 10 years there are 1000 NBA players compared to over 5600 in the NFL. If you do the math the plans per person are nearly identical. Plus the NBA is a pension plan.
@@timkinley1779 fair enough I stand corrected. Thanks for the Info Tim genuinely
AJ is speaking the truth! Wounded Warriors included unfortunately.
That list isn't right Newcastle United in the epl have the richest owners worth 320 billion. Its a Saudi investment group
They don't count the group owners
0:01
Mateshitz #4 that's crazy. Red Bull really out here
where is Jerry “hands under the table” Jones? That dude has more money than the bottom 3 on the list lol
Where’s Jerry Jones? I’m legit surprised and I’m not even a Cowboys fan
None of these people compare to the consortiums that own football teams in Europe. Group that bought NUFC is worth 700 billion
It’s honestly surprising that it’s only the Panthers. I for sure would have thought the Pats, Chiefs, or Cowboys would have won by a large margin.
It’s not the teams value, it’s the owner’s net worth, the Panthers are only valued at around 3billion
@@tacotacotington3638 That makes sense. I assumed team value and the owners net value would correlate a little more.
That's the one flex that I currently have as a Panthers fan: "My team's owner could buy your team at least 3 times, and still have money left."
Aj is dead on by law the charities only have to donate 2% of the money they bring in, never donate to support someone's luxury lifestyle!
Some of the richer owners, need to buy some of those bottom tier payroll baseball teams. So they can pay players more to get better players. To make them better on a consistent basis.
How is Snyder still allowed to own that team?
Yea I should own it aye. I would change their name to the Washington bumwees...
It's all monopoly money today in sports that will one day kill all the leagues when a real recession hits and people realize they can't spend $65.00 for cheap seats at Dodger Stadium while team payroll went from $29 million twenty years ago to $291 million today. It's a house of cards made out of Monopoly Money with all these $100 million + contracts.
I thought Jerry would be up there
when washington get bought, they can change the name. last time, and only this team. my god why the commanders. sounds like an xfl team
Most owners are not going to let people know how much they're worth! Because right now there's a push to make owners pay their fair share in taxes! So to actually be on the record and having your finances displayed to everyone is actually a bad idea! So I think a lot of these owners decided just not to put the information out there! You can't tell me that Jerry Jones of the Dallas cowboys didn't make the list! Remember this is a voluntary list and a lot of people won't let you know exactly how much they are literally worth!
It’s funny how the current owners don’t wanna look poor in comparison to these tech guys. I don’t see them selling unless the amount is so dumb you can’t say no. I’m sure it’s gonna happen but I guarantee there’s been convos between them all like “hey let’s keep these computer dorks outta our league!”
Why would those owners sell a NFL franchise? The make what couple billion a year ? Poor them
Newcastle united?
501 3c.... just saying... guidestar is a good reporting tool
Lets not forget the rockefeller was worth the equivelant to $418 BILLION
Saudi fam worth 1.3 trillion
Closer to $660B. You can't use inflation alone as there is a lot more money overall than there was back then. Rockefeller accounted for 3% of the entire GDP at his wealthiest, which nearly equals this $660B figure when adjusted for today's values.
@@THIS---GUY So much money, dude!
With the way he's acting I thought Jones would be top 5
This eats at Jerry way more than not winning since 1995.
The panthers have gotten worse ever since tepper got there
Look into the tax code for the billionaire people pay no taxes get millions back and hand the middle class the bill!
NOOO YOU CANT JUST GET INTO ONE OF THE 5,000 CARS ALREADY SITTING IN THE DEALERSHIP PARKING LOT AND DRIVE AWAY WITHOUT PAYING FOR IIIIIT
Technically this list is wrong if you wanna count David Thomson in this list...he'd be #3
Is david Thompson part of the Thompson family media moguls from Canada. If so, what team is he involved with
@@tonyraso2332 He is apart of the Thomson Family. And he involved with the Winnipeg Jets…I believe his Net Worth is like 49.9 Billion
Aj ...leave those poor Clinton's alone hahah
As a die hard Panthers fan since 2001, Tepper is a damn walking L and a personal lapdog. Since he's been in the league back in 2018, he has a total record of 22-43 (.338) and he claims about caring on winning but yet has to change.
This man fired a head coach who has a winning record in Carolina, but yet brings in a college head coach who has INEXPERIENCE IN THE NFL by giving him a 7-year, $62M contract however this clown went 5 win games back-to-back. It's embarrassing.
Wait.. Doesn’t Steven Allens family still own the Seattle Seahawks??.. Even though he passed away he was the ACTUAL #2 guy beside Bill Gates in building Microsoft so he was worth an INSANE amount of money.. His family must still have a massive amount of his net worth
I imagine that wealth gets split among a few parties.
@@natebaxter9551 Yeah but he was worth over 100 billion dollars
you forgot Elan Musk and Tesla who owns the first ever trillion dollar businesses reportedly the richest man in the world
i thought jerry jones was the richest this whole time lol
Not a good thing for the NFL if those fkers start buying up teams... the league will definitely take a weird turn just as the world is. I'm sooooo grateful I grew up in the 70s 80s and 90s watching this great sport🙌
Yeah the nfl hasn’t taken any weird turns lately…. A weird turn would be crazy to see….
Hang on . . . . It took you 3 decades to grow up ? .
Benzo guy or whatever he is wants the broncos
The people who own Man City and PSG make these look broke lol
Tepper may be the richest owner because of personal wealth but the Panthers isn't the most valuable team in the NFL.
Yeah. Duh. Because this isn't a list of most valuable teams.
Its Dan Snyders fault.
We have the richest owner but can't pay for a good QB????
Completely wrong Paul Allen before he died was the wealthiest owner had no wife or kidd. money ended up to his sister Jody Allen of around 40 billion fortune
Hey Pat, a little history lesson, much more wealth has been acquired by individuals and companies throughout history, Mansa Musa ($410 bn), Dutch East India Company ($7.8 trillion) about 3x that of Apple adjusted. Extreme wealth isn't new and was definitely known and accounted for in the making of democracies.
Edit: Love the show and the brand
John D Rockefeller, founder of the Standard Oil Company that would later be broken up into 34 "smaller" companies after antitrust laws were passed, including Exxon & Chevron, accounted for 3% of the entire US GDP at his wealthiest. This figure is around $660 billion in 2020 dollars.

If it's not for you as an Owner you can sell it it 10 yrs and make 1 billion profit. Its all about assets. Old Money won't sell because they make enough money to live the high life and the team value increases every year. The NFL is life. To the New Rich the NFL is a way to make money.
