Why You Can't Mix Blood Types

  • While blood types have been around for at least 20 million years, doctors have only known about them for about 116 years. Prior to the 1900s, countless people died when they were injected with the wrong type of blood. This is because blood is composed of proteins called antigens that, when mixed with the wrong type, fight each other as if you're body was fighting an infection.

Sarah Buchan I asked my phlebotomist but you can just google it. They always use o blood right away in emergencies so that’s not really thrown away. Blood can only be stored for 42 days before it has to be throw away. Think about the days it take for the facility to collect the needed blood then transport it then wait for hospitals to use it. Not everyone every where is needing that blood transfusions so yes blood does go to waste. Sorry to all the people scared of needles becoming courageous enough to give blood but it’s most likely it’s going to be thrown away before use of saving someone’s life. Idk probably used for someone’s GRS

theres so many intricacies of blood typing and transfusion med, and thats what i like about it. my jobs stressful but you learn a lot and its fascinating. blood type is also determined by two sets of alleles so someone who is type A or type B can technically be AO/AA or BO/BB since O is recessive. there are also subgroups of type A that arent too uncommon and can cause reactions as well (someone who is type A2 can create an anti A1 which is the most common of the two groups).

The rarest blood group is actually the Bombay Blood group. And it was discovered by an indian doctor practicing at the then Bombay, aka Mumbai. Seriously look it up. BBG is the actual universal donor, not even O+ve. Bombay Blood Group can be donated to everybody, but can only accept from another BBG. Currently there are only 400 registered donors of BBG, within this 1.25 billion population of India.
PS you are right about Indians having more number of B+ve people. I am B+, so is my dad and my brother. And so are most of my friends. O+ve is quite rare in India.

Our blood is so damn rare, it's a miracle we have each other and grew up together since we were babies. Our mothers are sisters and 2 years apart with both being O positive.
We also both love to tell others that we're like vampires that can give others blood if needed since our blood is the true Universal blood donors unlike our fake counterparts, the O positives. Only being able to give blood to other Rh positives and not negatives like we can.

    • @159Fender159
      @159Fender159 Před 4 lety +11

The O isn’t actually the letter O. It’s the number zero. It represents the absence of either the A or B antigens.
The negative sign represents absence of the Rh factor.
This means that O- blood type has none of these antigens, so there is nothing for the antibodies to recognize as foreign. Esentially, red blood cells of type O- are “invisible” to antibodies. This is why they can donate to any blood type.

This is interesting. Blood types are different. So when people say stuff like: we’re all humans, we all have the same red blood flowing through our veins. It’s technically not the same. Each ethnic group is unique.

I think there are different blood groups because couples who marry and have the same blood group may have children with some disability( as far as I've observed.) This may be possible . However it's just my point of view, there might be other theories.

I am curious. My partner has an aversion to blood in general because of this very thing. He thinks interacting with someone's blood at all could be cause for this to happen, including period blood. Obviously im not injecting it into him, but im curious to know if it COULD actually do him harm if he happened to have some of it get in him somehow

Gerry Entertainment Its because type O blood type is always recessive (its like minor type, something like that lol...) and a and b types are always dominant.
For example, if your father has A and your mother is O, you will inherit A blood because A is dominant. If your mother is A and your father is B then, you will get AB since its both Dominant

If two person married, with blood types :
      A+B = AB
      A+O = A (heterogen)
      B+O = B (heterogen)
      AB + O = can be A or B
      AB + A = most likely A
      AB + B = most likely B
      O + O = O
      A + A = A (homogen)
      B + B = B (homogen)

I believe blood types were developed as an adaptation for humans. When they come from different regions all of them are susceptible to types different diseases, like African children are more likely to have sickle cell disease because it helps prevent malaria. So what if it’s the same type of concept
