This was the year after we went to the ECF. That entire season, I kept saying to a buddy of mine, “there’s gotta be something going on behind the scenes” “there’s gotta be something going on with this guys internally” you could see it on the ice. The team was broken and divided and it was so obvious. The year before the team had such a good dynamic and it was just gone. I always felt bad for Duchene. Guy cam over and thought it was joining a contender. Walked into a dysfunctional train wreck of a situation.
While it sucked in retrospect Melnyk was right to tear it all down. You can't fix a room like that as if you trade just Hoffman or Karlsson there were going to be rifts. I also got so annoyed at people blaming Duchene. He played so well for us and really gave it a chance (was even willing to stay). He was not the problem. I'm glad the kids we have now all seem so jelled and the vets we have just seem so into wanting to be there. I haven't loved a team like this in so long! Hopefully Captain Tkachuk can lead up to the promised land!
Props to body for not ignoring Brent’s accidental not accidental mentioning of Melnyk and standing up for someone he thoroughly liked.

I've found that Ottawa's dressing room issues at the time were strangely magnified and got way more attention than deserved.
Wow. This went right into some heavy stuff. Dropped everything to watch it honestly.
The thing I remember most between EK65 and Hoffman was that absolute beauty of a play in the playoffs against Boston where EK65 sends an aerial of a pass from his red line to Hoffman and catches him in stride at the blue line and Hoffman goes in and pulls off that sick deke to beat Tuuka Rask and score. Perfect pass, perfect reception, perfect deke, just beauty.

There could have been many factors, how the seen fell flat after the euro trip, the time zone, the Douchene trade or the fight between the wives.

I appreciate the context Bobby, as a long time Sens fan, that year where we essentially had to blow up our team because of this, it is nice to know that it was something that did affect the locker room in some degree. (where we may have never won if we did keep that team together due to drama). We just went through a rebuild during that time, and having to go back to a rebuild didn't feel good. Kudos to Pierre for those trades as we are reaping the rewards today, unfortunately after what feels like a decade rebuild.

Off topic.. what really happened to that cup final senators team?? Lots of rumours over the years no answers it seemed. 17’ eastern conference final team seemed like king Karl had everyone on walking on eggshells. Just my opinion though. Bobby and mcarther were clutch that playoff. I feel like Melinda was a problem causer and Hoffmans old lady put her in her place. Just my opinion
