      Funny part is DJ was a .464 with 3 more games coached, all under Pierre Dorion, who did far worst than Benning did with Vancouver. Thats the standard Ottawa is going to, and its a friggin 4 year deal...like what is Andlauer and Staios smoking signing this guy to a 4 year deal, instead of a 1+1 which is what should have happened. The next day, Leafs fire Sheldon Keefe. LMAO!!! The Leafs made sure the Sens hired before firing Keefe, who is a 212-97-40 record with a 4-man team in Toronto, who coaches a high pressure offensive system.

    I just don’t know why they didn’t wait to see who was available after the playoffs were over???

    It's possible Green could find success with this group, but it might just be a repeat of hist stint in Vancouver. Fans wanted someone with a proven track record to inspire some confidence. I don't envy the people who are out their trying to sell season tickets right now.

  • @wesgreig271
    @wesgreig271 Před 15 dny

    My biggest problem isn't the person, but the timing. They waited all season, why not wait another couple weeks and see which coaches are fired after round 1. It's not like Green was one of the big names so I'm guessing demand for him was comparatively low, he would probably still be available in a few weeks so Staios, in theory, had the leverage in that respect. You had the patience to wait all year but not the patience to wait an extra couple of weeks?

  • @andrewclarke8163

    I'm just now noticing that for those first three years, the team's record improved year over year each time. The remaining two weren't full seasons qnd should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
    Not saying it's a good record, but just that I don't think it's as bad as the flat .421 implies.

  • @ItotheCtotheE

    Another thought, Staios had a lot of success in the AHL and I'm guessing Green's AHL success probably appealed to him.

      His AHL success was not that impressive. Karl Taylor or Todd Nelson’s records are way more impressive.

    We're a small market, Canadian team. We're not going to attract many big names. We get little respect from the league, networks, refs, etc. The bigger names didn't want the job and why would they. It is discouraging.

  • @chrisfortin984
    @chrisfortin984 Před 14 dny

    If this was a 1+1 year contract, I would agree with Yorkie and see what he's got...but a 4 year deal for a coach with a losing track record with no real success? Its DJ 2.0 contract. 4 years!! We dont even know if hes even a fit and hes signed on for 4 years!!

    Something is fundamentally wrong with this team and yet again in another important area, the brain-trust goes for another unproven half-measure. We are going nowhere fast.

  • @buddha6954
    @buddha6954 Před 15 dny

    I think Staios waited too long. So coaches like Berube say well if you didn’t want to hire me right away. I am going to wait to see what comes up. I think Staios taking all this time to make decisions could hurt us getting players etc. This just feels like the last on the list and the cheapest. He is taking his time with the Pinto contract too. This doesn’t feel like best in class.

    I don't know who this guy is but what a terrible take. He names cassidy and de boer who have taken teams to the finals and had success. "why did they keep getting jobs?" versus green who made the playoffs once. Quenville is out there and once a team decides they want to win instead of virtue signal, he'll get hired and that team will have success.

    • @actor_jim
      @actor_jim Před 15 dny +2

      For years, though, every time Ottawa had a coaching search (which was frequently for a while) DeBoer's name was always near the top of the list, and people would always say "We don't want him, he's not had much success." Well, now he is having success. It happens that way sometime. People talked about the Tocchet hire in Vancouver the way they've been talking about the Green hire. That seems to be working out for Vancouver. I'm not saying it's definitely going to happen that way for Green, I'm just saying that's the way it goes sometimes.
      Also worth looking at in Vancouver, the worst year that got him fired was that 20-21 year, which was the return from Covid, which was just kind of a strange year for everything. I don't know how what Vancouver's season that year looked like, but teams were frequently playing down 5, 6, 7 regulars at a time. Training camps were weird (and Green comes advertised as a big Training Camp guy). Everything was messed up that season. If you look at the other 3 years, his record improved every year over the last.
      I feel like I'm making a million excuses, which is not my intent. I'm skeptical of the hire myself. I just think there might be more going on than a cursory look at the stats can show.

    I don't mind the Green hiring. DJ was a terrible coach. He had enough time to get the Sens playing the right way and he couldn't do it. No accountability, no consistency, and no discipline. Besides, if your goalies can't save the 1st or 2nd shot of the game 25% of the time you are going to loose a lot of games regardless of who the coach is. YES the Sens aloud a goal on the 1st or 2nd shot in 20 games this past year lol. Lets stop being little bitches and complaining and crying about the Sens sucking. We have a new GM, a new coach so let be hopeful our suffering is over and cheer our boys on!

      @@Brosc I could care less if its less money. Its 4 years for a Dj 2.0. Im so done with this crap. Im not going through this again. Not a chance. This team has 30 games to prove me wrong, but if im right, i'm done with this team..in all seriousness. No games to watch, no Sens podcasts. I literally will not give a crap about this team if this team fumbles till the new year. We getting closer to being 10 years of complete dumpsterfires with this team, and im not tagging along to see that 10th year.

    • @Brosc
      @Brosc Před 14 dny +1

      @@chrisfortin984 Nah he’s way better than DJ. Green has some serious experience playing and coaching in a Canadian market. He brings everything that management is looking for and I think he is a good fit for where the Sens are at. Berube would be nice but it sounds like he wants to win now. The Sens are still a couple years away from that.

    • @chrisfortin984
      @chrisfortin984 Před 14 dny

      @@Brosc Serious experience coaching? Way better than DJ Smith?
      DJ Smith - 317GC - 131-154-32 with a .464 winning %
      Travis Green - 314GC - 133-147-34 with a .423 winning %.
      Explain the "way better than DJ Smith" idea better? They have shockingly identical records with DJ coaching 3 more games than Green, and DJ had to deal with a complete trainwreck of Pierre Dorion, which is far worse than what Jim Benning did to Vancouver, yet Green is way better? What?

    • @chrisfortin984
      @chrisfortin984 Před 14 dny

      @@Brosc Way better than DJ? What? Dj has 3 more games coached, with nearly identical records, and DJ coached through Dorion's total trainwreck of this team. Benning didnt wreck the Canucks as bad as Dorion did to Ottawa, yet DJ has the better record.
      Green - 133-147-34 for a .424 winning % in 314 games coached.
      Smith - 131-154-32 for a .464 winning % in 317 games coached.
      So explain to me how in the world is Green far better than DJ when DJ has the trainwreck of Dorion to deal with, that even Jacques Martin couldnt fix.
      The best parts:
      1) Green is locked for 4 years!!! with an identical record as DJ Smith
      2) The day after this happened, the Leafs fired Sheldon Keefe, who love him or hate him, is a proven successful coach, maybe better than any coach on the market with basically a 4-player team and still posted a 212-97-40 in 349 games coached for a .607 winning % who also plays an offensive style, which is what Martin preached he wanted this team to play. What a move by Treliving to wait till Green was hired to fire Keefe so they dont deal with Keefe with the Sens. Thats a coach you want..ya his playoff record isnt great, but that winning record on a 4-player team in the Leafs and had nothing else with bad goaltending in Samsonov and still had 102 points with this roster. Thats a proven successful coach. Not a coach who did worst than DJ, with a GM who had no clue what he was doing, making DJ's job that much harder.

  • @TheHojirt
    @TheHojirt Před 15 dny +2

    The fact that he was a dirty Maple Leaf player should be held against him. Staois is a rookie GM and he is not a better judge of character than anybody off the street except that he is a buddy of Andlauer. Green may do well and I will applaud him. Wally does have an excellent point when he says that Green does not have a winning history. Jason is also on the money when he says bad goaltending will kill or make a coach.
