Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa, oh, oh
Whoa
I'm waking up to ash and dust
I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust
I'm breathing in the chemicals
[Inhale, exhale]
I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
Whoa oh
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones
Enough to make my system blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa, oh, oh, oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
I raise my flag and dye my clothes
It's a revolution, I suppose
We're painted red to fit right in
Whoa oh
I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
Whoa oh

Kaldur is kinda like the Cyclops of Young Justice. the most mature and resilient member team and one that carries the burden of being the team leader and also the character where everybody (including the writers) takes most of they're frustration on.
It's just because they are the same voice actor
@@Science__Politics Cyclops not Cyborg
Same with Leonardo. If you’re gonna be the leader then you’d better expect to have the hardest struggles and backlash

This might be my favorite video from Implicitily. I never thought of Kaldur being a man (I know he's still a kid) who lacked coping mechanisms and had developed the soldier mindset (which isn't something original for a comic character) without ever stopping and realizing that he's always been this way and had always been mature in order to be seen as capable for those around him since he was a kid (which is something original for a comic character).I really like the concept that Kaldur is just a guy who can't see the problem with holding extremely heavy burdens alone himself while also being wise enough to realize that he is probably the only type of person who can shoulder so much on his own. With time, he learns how to balance all the burdens he shoulders and begins to pursue his own personal life, not just for the benefit of all those he protects and fights alongside but also for himself because he comes to realize that he also needs to take a breath every now and then.I think this should be a part of the core building blocks of his character for whatever DC decides to do with him in the future because the character isn't perfect, but Young Justice did a damn good job, and DC should continue to build off of what they did with Kaldur.
(Don't know if you'll see this, Implicitily, but I love your videos and your mind. Appreciate how you break things down and tackle the psychology of the fictional characters, making them feel more relatable and enjoyable for the next time I see them. Anyways, appreciate you :), much love.)
Agreed, this video and implicitly in general were class. It summed up really good the character even though at surface level kaldur can be seen as someone simply just “resilient”. So the fact a video can be able to break it down deeper and over time is absolute class.

Duty is the word i always described Kaldur, not dutiful, duty... that is, as you said, what defined him.
So much so, that when M'gann did her number on him... he did recognise himself, not like i think anyone else would have fared better than him having the full might of M'gann unleashed on them, but... his mental image of himself was... haunting.
He still could actualize, take his form, but not recognise himself as himself, which says a lot.
Kaldur is my favorite character of YJ, no cap, from the moment i saw him in the first episode, to the AMAZING second season to finally he taking time to let himself breath, let go of duty for a moment and relax.
But even being define by duty, Kaldy never recented this or anyone for "letting him carry it", it is who he is and he loves it, he just needed other people, the ones he loves and loves him back, to remember him that there is more to life than that... and even then, he still was the pillar that supported so much, it is kinda scary but still inspiring about how much Kaldur puts himself out there, on the forefront of everything.
I actually get a little emotional with the character of Aqualad. I identify with him because as a kid I grew up way too fast and shouldered responsibilities that maybe I shouldn't have. It's to the point that, like Aqualad, I too sacrifice my time and energy in unfair circumstances. People tell me I shouldn't have to or praise me after, but I never respond to it. It's what needed doing. It's so difficult to remind myself that I need time to breathe.
Thanks for the video. He's definitely one of my favorite characters.
I hope you find others who are willing to help share your responsibilities/burdens without being asked and that you receive the same energy that you give to others.
I hope you are appreciated 🤗. I relate to this character and these feel man. 😮💨😌
"It just needed to get done."💯
Finally my man Kaldur gets his spotlight (analysis video). I relate heavy with Kaldur but what I found so interesting about his character which you pointed out is that during season 1, he wasn't really a character you would focus really, until season 2 when he pretended to be a supervillian only for the truth to be revealed which retroactively made him even more interesting in season 1. The reason why it was so believable was because of the weight he had to carry which would make anyone enter their Viilian arc.
For a little while I was in a downards direction (nowhere near my lowest points or anything, just indulging in the unhealthy). One of the steps back towards a more joyous, balanced life. Was making a rule "If Implicitly Pretentious uploads, no watching anything else before his video."
They are intellectually stimulating, emotionally resonant, andd always an experience that lifts me up in some way. Either as a fan of these shows, as a Social Work Student, or just a person navigating the world.
Thanks.
i fucking love these
I've sometimes been praised for taking care of my family at 16, then started to do a lot of career progress and now at 23 having a great job.
I always felt connected with Kaldur but couldn't describe why, thank you for putting it into words.
Kaldur was always my favorite back then and is still now, but for very different reasons. I kind of relate to putting others’ wellbeing and feelings before myself, even to my detriment. Not as badly as he does, but still.
Unfortunately, this resonates with me to my very core... every word in this script about Kaldur's life is almost parallel to mine. A Unique Symmetry. I'm about to release a book of poetry...perhaps I should dig deeper into emotional resiliency.
What's the title?
@@workemail8723 Thanks for inquiring. It's no longer a working title, but I can't disclose until publishing. I'll post a link here when it's available.
Best video yet from young justice series. Bro do the Gargoyles. So much to break down.
me listening to this while working out only to only almost drop a dumbbell on my face while you say the downtime line LOL
Hey maybe you don’t need this but your content makes me really happy. Beyond sparking my joy as a diehard DC fan, I go back to your Superman videos a lot. If you for, whatever reason, feel bad about your CZcams career I just want to remind you that you are doing good work. Thank you, for real.
I don't watch a lot of the DC shows you talk about, but I always learn something amazing from your character studies. It's amazing how well interpreted these characters are and it's so cathartic to hear. Another incredible video essay!! 👏
This might be one of your best yet, the three sleepless nights were worth it. Thank you for this. Something about it felt healing.
I truly feel that he is nothing but his responsibility and duty, and that did not change even after phantoms, he just took the time to grieve and rest as a responsibility to the people around him. It was weird to see people tell him to be "himself" when he'd never learned to, especially his parents.
Also small thing here, why was there no damn set up for Wyynde? My favorite character was also bi and they just threw it at me? Thought i missed something.
I mean, how did they meet? How did wyynde get through his mission-focused-soldier schtick? Wht does Kaldur look good with a beard?
The closest we get to Wyynde before season 3 was him in a cameo in the tie-in comic books. However, he was part of an enemy group called the Purists, so it definitely took time for him and Kaldur to befriend each other.
@@GamerSlyRatchet1 I would've loved to see it, y'know. Felt like everyone else had their relationships fleshed out, except for the main man Kaldur. And maybe Dick.
@@DaWelshmanWell you know how studios are about showing the "Gêy".

So I'm trying to remember: Did Kaldur appear before Jackson Hyde debuted in the comics? Or was Jackson introduced as a way to build hype for Kaldur, because Young Justice definitely supercharged his popularity.
Kaldur came first
From my memory both came around the same time, the comic maybe coming about a month earlier.
Kaldur was created first and Geoff Johns liked him enough to introduce him in the comics. But because comic production faster, he came out in the comics first as Jackson Hyde and took a very different direction than Kaldur did. Even their sexual orientations are different despite both ending up with men.
@@GamerSlyRatchet1Thank you for sharing this. Going to add this to the list of reasons to admire Greg Wiseman.
Jackson Hyde came first, idk why everyone keeps saying Kaldur came first. Jackson debuted in Brightest Day. Although it was a few months apart.
Thank you for making an amazing video on my favorite character! 💚
I'm glad was created, I adore watching this characters struggles, growth and development throughout. I hope for another season just to see more of my favorite interpretation of this character.
I was so happy and proud when it was revealed he was bi. Which only added to my adoration for this character especially at the off just another burden his character had to shoulder.
I love your videos on Young Justice and look forward to the next!
Also sorry if I start a ruckus in the comments. 🙇
hes just that guy and thats y hes my only favorite Atlantis character in all of dc
I've introduced my friend to Young Justice, and when I was watching season 1 with him (it was my third watch in the past couple years), I really liked Kaldur! Watching Young Justice as a kid, I was a fan of the more immature characters, like Wally. Kaldur seemed 'boring' back then. Then as I got back into the show as an adult I really liked Dick for his humour and interesting character growth. But Kaldur was still on the side. Now, watching Young Justice, already knowing Wally's and Dick's stories very well, Kaldur just stood out brilliantly. I remarked to my friend, "How did I not realise this?! Kaldur is such a great character! I never noticed he had webbed hands!" And other things like that. So this current rewatching of Young Justice is for Kaldur, and I am so excited to go through the entire show again.
For the few who read this, that opening quote is extremely real. In my studies of psychology, there is one variable that leads to longevity. That variable, is the people you hold dear.
Men live shorter lives than women not because they do more dangerous stuff, but because they don't have the same strong connections with people. Women tend to have stronger connections with their children, stronger family ties, and stronger connections to people they have met. Men are taught that their emotions are weakness, to stand tall and alone. Without the connection to other people, the drive to take their own life has nothing to oppose it.
So, call your parents, your siblings, your old friends, the guy at the bar you drink with every Tuesday. You need them and they need you.
This show made me love so many characters I didn’t previously
Each one of these are treasures. The way you build them, amazing
i just cannot get enough of these videos. the thoughtfulness, the introspection, the editing and quality - so perfect.
such a good video I had to see it twice. Great Job, Leo.
This is awesome and amazing
. . .my family tells me I do this same thing. I tough out my skin condition, I give every dollar I have to help them and to honor my promises. I felt as though, I was only doing the obvious correct choice. I never thought about it in another way.
This video, actually opened my eyes to what they mean when they say I need to act for myself. It doesn't mean I need to give up acting in the way I feel is responsible, but it instead means I need to act in the ways responsible for myself as well.
I know it isn't what this video is about, but in season 2 I got disappointed that it wasn't Kaldur who defeated Black Beetle. It had been shown that the beetles were vulnerable to magic, and the way Kaldur took down Connor when this one attached him that for me it was a given.
Kaldur is such a fascinating character, what a great video essay!
Kaldur is such a cool character. Level headed and likeable.
My dude. My man. My guy.
Young Justice got the BEST performance out of their VAs.
SUPER NICE
excellent
Kaldur is best boy and my fav character in young!
okay fine i'll rewatch all of young justice 🙄
This reminds of how when people would tell me as a kid “you’re so mature for your age” I would say “that’s not really a compliment is it”
Even wynnde was concerned about him
Hitting a little too close to home with this one
I hadn't heard that song in years, like I was reading the lyrics to the "mystery song" and it was hurting my brain trying to feel out the beat to that clasic "Imagine Dragons" song.
We need another season
I just need more in any form it takes.
Not after the trash they served up in the last season
god i fucking love your content
I enjoy the coloured backdrops in the video, new addition, really cool compared to the black backdrops
You grabbed my attention by framing it as "Comepetency porn".
kaldur best Aquaman !
nice
Kaldur was fantastic in season 1, I'd say speaking of season 1 after multiple rewatches he the most mature and the best member of the team, his arc in season 2 was also fantastic unfortunately he is so underrated his arc in S3 wasn't bad but not really as good as others,so underrated love to see more of kaldur with this personality in the comics.
Let’s GOOOOOOOOOOO
Is there a video on JLU Superman? Specifically on how angry he is. Im rewatching the series now and it feels like Cadmus arc shows is the angriest a good Superman has ever been
i never finished YJ so its so awesome to learn what good places they went with Kaldur♥ (also love the "competensy porn" line lol its so real. with current aversion to "strong" characters and how a character has to "secretly be shaking in their boots at all times and secretly think about their trauma every minute of their day" just a very responsible competent guy is refreshing)
🔥🔥
Anyone else find it weird how Aquaman in young justice is voiced by Phil LaMarr, in the series that proceeded the DC animated series where LaMarr voiced John Stewart/Green Lantern in that one?
Nope. I was surprised I didn't realize he was voicing Aquaman until I read the credits for "Injustice".
He has great range. I can't picture anyone doing better.
@@workemail8723 I mean yeah he is a great voice actor, but having loved the animated series justice league and JLU, my mind can only imagine him playing John Stewart, who is my favourite green lantern because of this series.
That's why it's weird imagining him voicing another character like this from the same team dynamic. It be like Kevin Conroy voicing the Flash.

@@MrOrcshaman In "Justice League" (cartoon) Flash was voiced by the actor who played Lex in "Smallville". So I can kind of understand.
It really made that episode where Lex and Flash switch bodies and Lex is voicing Lex in Flashes body.
The one point that was missing was that there is a cost to that resilience and I think Kaldur new it.
You mind elaborating a bit more. I could figure it out but my brain is a bit slow/tired today.

kaldur is epic
Hey Iv been a huge fan for a few years and have always wanted to get into this kind of content creation. Have you ever considered taking on interns or hiring outside writers?
Plz do Beast boy from Young justice next
10:55 not in any way related to the video but they say 4 green lanterns but we have only ever seen hal guy and john
Bummed they didn’t do the Tempest character.
I wish people remember Garth more, bur Kaldur/Jackson is the best Aqualad.
Marcus Aurelius, that's who he reminds me of.
video over red tornado??
Downtime.
I know what they were going for, but last season fell flat in execution
That's valid. I just give the show a pass because I want more time with these characters even if it's under baked and under budgeted.
Anyone know what song is at the end?
Pachelbel Canon! 😮
Whats the classical piece you play?
I like the part where they made him gay without any prior hints and made his lover look like knock off Garth. Dude just popped into existence without any backstory like: "Yep, here he is. You'll like this guy right?"
All complaints aside Kaldur was an excellent character for those 1st 2 seasons. Stoic but full of heart. The deception arc with Black Manta was one of the craziest plots I've seen a "kids" cartoon do, and I love how he eventually becomes the new Aquaman. Would've preferred to see this inheritance on screen tho. YJ has a huge problem with doing changes off screen and just telling you it happened instead of showing it.
I can not fid it anywhere what is the song over the credits?
Roof feat. Naiad - The Streets
Competency porn is my new favourite words
Ahhh the great character
Outside of the forced 🌈
How does that diminish his character?
What are you implying?
Hello
To the end? Young Justice isn’t over.
It is kinda.
Even Weisman doesn't know if there will be a Season 5.
Ok
Did Leon Dryden major in psychology?
Probably my favorite from the show was shocked when they made him gay. Also his va always does a great job
He was always bi, you weren't a fan of the character just the ideal you built up in your head.
I bet you don't even READ his comics.
:)

The impostor syndrome here is crazy
This isn't in young justice, nor is it truly relevant to the video above but... during injustice Kaldur uses his water powers to cause a tidal wave sourced from the Washington monument to drown like 400 politicians, which is a huge display of power we don't get to see in young justice.
Well in injustice that Kaldur Did what he did because he was a Traitor. In Young Justice, I'm fairly certain he can do that But if he Causes a tsunami, he's gonna hurt innocent people as opposed to just the bad guys
Kaldur lost his soulmate and went gay😪 loved young justice
they made him gay for 0 reason
If he was CIS what would have been different???
Why’d they have to make his mom so hot
Kaldur is a mirror of my girlfriend
When they turned him fruity i gave up the show
Great video Sir.. Kaldur is a great character and has a great character arc, but I am sad that the heterosexual black man representation is not as important as others.
Oh my gawd... You are just disappointing. You just couldn't leave a compliment without being homophobic huh?
They had to make the black guy gay. Smh
