  • Today I am out photographing 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 enjoying this fine spring weather that we should have had weeks ago. Today I am taking a walk along this river in the hope of photographing some 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 here in the lovely Yorkshire Dales surrounded by new lambs in these beautiful green fields.
With me today is the new 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗯𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗱, which I have been sent by Manbily to give it a try and give an honest review on how found the Monopod for wildlife photography
I left the car at around 6:30 AM and made my way down to the river where I happened to come across a large embankment where 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘀 were nesting and digging new nests into the riverside I spent some time watching and photographing them as they flew around and skiming the water for insects. Just beneath the 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘀 was a common sandpiper foraging around for grubs on the shores of the river.
I continued my walk along the river edge making my way up towards the forest, where I was lucky enough to come across 2 𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 soaring above the tree tops and one of them actually eating whilst on the wing before finally dropping its prey.
As the morning went on I decided to spend a bit of time on a tributary, as the main river was quite high pushing most of the 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 such as 𝘄𝗮𝗴𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 and 𝗱𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 off to the subsidiaries off the main river.
After three hours I managed to photograph a single dipper on a rock before I turned around and started walking back towards the car.
On my return journey, I happened to see a strange bird flying around and as I looked closely I suddenly realised it wasn't a bird at all but a bat, I watched the bat with eager eyes and managed to see where it landed as it did I got my camera and took some photos and video of this love little bat out in the daylight in the woods.
A fantastic day 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀, a part of the country I truly love to be in.

Hi Ashley, another top video with a great variety of wildlife 👍🏽 great stuff Mate and the Sand Martin flight shots were great, any Martin, Swift, or Swallow shots are hard to get I think. See you on the next one 📸

A cracking walk, and a big of variety of subjects along the way. I especially liked the bat footage, well spotted on that one. And that final parting image of that sand martin in flight, just wow! Well done Ash, and thanks for sharing your adventure with us. Take care of that knee for a couple more weeks, along with yourself buddy! 👍👏👏😊

Another great video Ashley, Had to laugh though when you got to the point about your dodgy knees and then went onto review the monopod where you said you could adapt it into a walking stick at which point you said you wouldn`t be using this feature .LOL . Great Sand Martin photos and very lucky to spot the Bat.

Yeh i was just walking across a field and saw this thing flying around, I thought to myself that's flying around a bit strange then I got a better look and saw it was a bat, I watched where it landed and got a quick photo and video. 😀

Great video again thank you 😊
They were Sand martin's, they use banks up and down the rivers great to see.
I did hear in the background at about 4.30 a king fisher I'm pretty sure that distinctive squeaking call. So keep an eye out for them if you ever go back.

Great video, I love just going for a wander and see what I find.
I use a manfrotto xpro550 monopod, it has a manfrotto fluid head on it and it also has a foot attachment that helps a lot with stability. I find it much better when wandering than a tripod as it gets me on a shot much quicker.

I don't use my monopod very often, however I recently bought a Smallrig fluid head for it. Got to say, the fluid head made a huge difference to the functionality of the monopod.
Rather than trying to tilt the monopod backwards to capture something above me, I could slowly tilt the camera up with the fluid head. Panning is a dream, as well. The Smallrig is surprisingly good for its tiny size. Its not as good as my Mafdrotto head, which is the same as yours but its very close and a fraction of the weight.
You are welcome to try it out to see what you think. I lent it to Stephen when he went to the USA chasing the sun as it hid behind the moon.
    Just a thought.😀

Absolutely gorgeous videos...as for the monopod, it will at best serve as a walking stick....not suitable for videos and neither for Stills!

Nice video… I have a Manfrotto monopod and it takes two seconds to put my camera on or to take it off.

How about an Acra Swiss adapter set for camera and monopod.

  • @smiffy5467
    @smiffy5467 Před 3 měsíci +1

Just put a Arca Swiss clamp or monopod tilt head onto your monopod, makes for easy on off of the camera…

    • @WildlifePhotographerUK

yeh thanks, thought about that, but I was reviewing the monopod, if I put ball head or such like on it, then I might as well just use any stick, as it would be the ball head doing the work. I will give it a try and see how I get on thought thanks. 👍
