I just realized this isn't a show about Sheldon as a kid, it's a show about the struggles of lower-middle class Americans, and really just families in general. This show paints the picture of a struggling, yet loving family so vividly. Everything from finances, to cheating, teenagers having accidental babies, family dynamics and imperfect parents.
And the sad part? the life this family has in 1990, on the slary of a high school football coach, is now an aspirational lifetsyule for Americans for their children's generation.
I know what you mean, I noticed it after I bingewatched the show and started looking for similar shows. The "Feeling" of the show is very different from other shows about a "genius". Sheldon is almost more special needs kid than amazing genius, and the show is mainly about a family dealing with a special needs kid on low income.
They are not low income in this show. You tend to forget the 1970s was the last decade women stayed home & men worked & his salary raised the family. In the 1980s President Reagan fucked us over by sending manufacturing to China. People were long term unemployed but still made more then than they do today. Throughout the next 40 years after 1980, Unions became rare & wages dropped. The rich got richer & the poor poorer. Housing started to go up as female Boomers entered the work force. With 2 incomes in a household the price of everything went up. Cars, houses, rents, & something Boomers didn’t have to pay for was College. Reagan then cut everything, education, nasa, schools, he stopped paying college tuitions, he made it impossible to get unemployment if fired or quit. He raised taxes. Women had to work just to pay the bills. But a 2 income family was doing a lot better than a 1 income. Today you have to be upper middle class to afford rent or housing otherwise you have to share it. In Seattle you have to both be upper mid class to afford to buy. My Mom sold her house in 1980 for $39500. It’s valued at $500,000 today. In 1980 I was 19 making $1,000 mo, $12,000 a year. No college, no background check, no credit check, no drug testing my rent was $215/mo and I bought a brand new Camaro for $5400 after a 900 down payment I got a 4 year loan which was OUTRAGEOUS because normal was 24 or 36 months. But prices were going up. Today… that same job should pay $6644 mo or $77,900 yr but it pays $3,900 mo & $47,000 yr to start & that’s almost HALF. Another thing in 1980 housing was so abundant I moved every 6 months because they offered 3 months free rent if unsigned a 6 mo lease. So for 3 years I just moved. Today we don’t have enough housing. Why is that. ? We are seriously getting fucked over today. Cities have purposely not built enough housing, they have closed down mobile home parks & other types of affordable housing & past 40 years built none so now our huge poverty population which never existed in the 70s are all living outside now & addicted to fentanyl with 100,000 dying every year now. The entire Vietnam war of 12 years didn’t kill that many. Boomers got lucky & were able to make money. But they also were the ones not building enough housing. Why? So they could manipulate the market & sell their home for a million dollars, that’s why. Where did they learn to be so fucking greedy? Ronald Reagan. The worst president of all time. Because of him we have Putin, homelessness, poverty and Republicans as well as democrats didn’t do a god damn thing to reverse what he did. We still have factories in China which China owns but we paid for. Anyways… arrrg
I honestly thought Mary gonna start freaking out about George losing his job and the family finance. Instead, she calmed down and empathize with George when she notice him breaking down and hugged him. It was beautiful.

This is how they differentiate between him and George, the Father. It'd be like calling Mary, "Missy", and saying, well it's just a nickname! 🙄🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️😕 This is the whole reason people HAVE names and nicknames. So that when you are talking about them, everyone else knows who you're talking about.

@Bev True when you're a parent you are legally responsible for your child, and if you're a good parent you're also terrified by the fact that children are weak fragile and naive while going out into the world. When they're adults who can handle themselves, a lot of that gets dropped. Obviously, you should still worry if your kids okay, but that "chill" is the lack of responsibility. That's why aunts and uncles get to be so fun as well.
I'd like to believe that the George's death would actually make her what she is in TBBT. Sometimes a person just needs something for a better change. For Mary, it might be her husband's death.

When George hugged Mary man they just don’t know the weight a man Carries on his shoulder , the power n tension when u hug someone like him then after feeling the relief and relaxation from his body when you just let that hug sit in for a few mins is crazy, very spot on acting of how a dad feels when they just don’t hear you or understand you when that’s all we want.

I moved to Australia is 1998. I’ve never met so many folks who have been molested by teachers, priests, counselors, friend’s fathers, step fathers and next door neighbors. I think it’s better to have protective parents than not.
My dad is a little league coach for football. He used to win back to back championships. Every kid in my town knew him and would say hi to me because they knew i was his son. He ended up quitting because the league changed the rules for coaching, and restricted how he could do hos job to where he wasnt getting any good teams to win with. He ended up starting up his own league! He got lots of support and people left the city league to join his league.
I'm a dad and can totally relate to what George is going through (haven't got a kid as troublesome as Sheldon though). Sometimes we too need someone to vent, that's all we ask :(
All I ask is to not be generalized as a "Fascist, Racist, Xeno-Homo-Transphobe etcetera" because of My Christian and Conservative Beliefs, to find a Girl who will care for Me and Love Me in the name of the Lord 'till death do us part, and to not Be a lonely teenaged kid with problems that I would be shamed for by My Parents Sister and Possibly My friends. This is a good scene starts out with mary on her high horse about how she does all the parenting when she ignores missy most of time and coddles sheldon, george is obviously needing some piece and ask for 5 min but marys still on that horse and coddling sheldon, she finally pays enough attention to her husband to realize hes in need and she comforts him after listening to him, one of the few moments where she is aware her husband is in pain
This is the main reason why I don’t dislike Mary. Yes, she is controlling, overprotective and hypocritical as well but all those traits make her so realistic. But you can still despite her wrong ways, she truly cares about her family

this is indeed beautiful to see. When I come home wether its been agood shift or bad, my mrs ALWAYS gives me at least 5 or 10mins to decrompress. Makes me a cup of coffee, lets me sit in peace n ma doggo whos a daddy's boi just sits n waits for his attention he knows hes gonna get once iv had that coffee. that 5mins is everything to me wether its a good day or a bad day.
That boy was made the way he is by his mom and sometimes his dad. She made him into a baby man. Their other kids were underparented due to their excessive over parenting of Sheldon.

Oh thank you! I think the neglect the other kids experienced was too much and they knew it was because of Sheldon. It even made the relationship between Sheldon, Missy and Georgie not to be so cordial.

@@Celisar1 I stayed at a college dorm when i was 13 years old with 8 guys and 3 girls playing Battletech tabletop. I would get out of soccer practice and play 3 days a week with them, my dad eventually got tired of waiting around on me because the games were 3-5 hours long. Eventually one of the guys and his girlfriend started giving me rides home. Probably my favorite part of growing up to be honest.

If Mary did more stuff like this George would enjoy his marriage more. He don’t even like Brenda, he enjoys how he feels with here because she just wants to make him laugh and be happy. It allows George to talk to a woman and not have responsibilities. If Mary just showed her love more and tried to make George happy he’d not want to be around Brenda.
Dorm life is a fun part of college. You meet new people and have different experiences. If you've brought your kids up well you can trust them to be responsible and study. Even younger ones. And George is right - Sheldon really doesn't bow to peer pressure if he wears a bow tie.
Most people go to college youngest 17 turning 18. Sheldon is a big target especially for pdf files if you get what I mean. A lot of sick ppl roam this earth
George loved his job. All wants is a lil control and respect in his life without the nagging from his wife. Also sheldon is smart enough to be by himself. If he truly does care about what other people think, then he wouldnt wear a bow tie like george said.
George is really the hero of the show man. So much bullshit from Kids, Wife and everyone around he has to deal with. And for some insane reason he is still sane. Sad that he is portrayed in TBBT as a bad person, but in Young Sheldon I personal feel he is the unsung hero.
Maybe she wanted to move on from George’s death fast, and sometimes, thinking about just the bad things helps you get over the death of a loved one faster.

Man this feels conflicting, whule sheldon should get the chance to be more independent, when you think of a 11 year old kid being alone with a bunch of strangers much older than the kid and the kid usually having problems with communicating it sounds worrying esp with the things you hear from the news and media.
Sheldon's dad is alot more likeable than l ever thought he would be. It's too bad he dies. This is the problem with doing a prequel. The characters created may be nicer and better than they are portrayed in the future show.
And remember guys & gals, George had an offer for a better more stable job, with better pay, but turned it down because Mary manipulated the rest of the family and turned them against him. So any financial issues they encounter are entirely her fault.
Sheldon socializing is a good thing. Leave the boy to grow and have fun. The dorm is safe and no one is going to duck around with a kid. Especial a kid who the Uni is so high on. Let him live Mary!
TBBT really did dirty by George. He was always just a good father, never a perfect father, but always the best father he could be to his kids and as good a husband as possible to his wife.
This hits really close, my mother is the same. So worried about what could go wrong at every turn that is not able to have the least confidence in anyone around her, to the point that if you don't pay attention begins to corrode your self confidence and that's especially dangerous when you are young and being raised by someone like that. It costed me four decades to even realize what actually is my parents importance in my pathological inferiority complex and utter lack of self worth.
Once in a while everyone deserves a hug. We don’t say out loud but we feel very relaxed and unknowingly vent out some invisible stress and feel light, focused and energized to pick up things where we left off.
Real life stuff.... Men suffer in silence. Nobody gives a hoot when men have a problem. We are supposed to be fixers. The strong one. We are simple creatures. One damn hug from a loved one is usually all that's needed yet it rarely happens.....
Sheldon is actually similar to his dad, in the case of when he gets permission for something, he doesn't talk more than he has to to risk losing that permission.
If everyone had good paying jobs we would all be less angry in this world. Too bad corporations and the elite don't us to have that, and they're perfectly happy that we're mad at each other instead of being mad them.

Me too, but their family was always under a lot of stress for a variety of reasons. Parents supporting each other can be so hard under stress.

That boy was made the way he is by his mom and sometimes his dad. She made him into a baby man. Their other kids were underparented due to their excessive over parenting of Sheldon.
Tbh just his mom she has her moments but most of the times she always prefers sheldon meanwhile george treats them all equally and everytime george tries to raise sheldon like an actual kid instead of a baby mary shits all over him
Oh thank you! I think the neglect the other kids experienced was too much and they knew it was because of Sheldon. It even made the relationship between Sheldon, Missy and Georgie not to be so cordial.

@@Celisar1 I stayed at a college dorm when i was 13 years old with 8 guys and 3 girls playing Battletech tabletop. I would get out of soccer practice and play 3 days a week with them, my dad eventually got tired of waiting around on me because the games were 3-5 hours long. Eventually one of the guys and his girlfriend started giving me rides home. Probably my favorite part of growing up to be honest.

If Mary did more stuff like this George would enjoy his marriage more. He don’t even like Brenda, he enjoys how he feels with here because she just wants to make him laugh and be happy. It allows George to talk to a woman and not have responsibilities. If Mary just showed her love more and tried to make George happy he’d not want to be around Brenda.

Most people go to college youngest 17 turning 18. Sheldon is a big target especially for pdf files if you get what I mean. A lot of sick ppl roam this earth

George is really the hero of the show man. So much bullshit from Kids, Wife and everyone around he has to deal with. And for some insane reason he is still sane. Sad that he is portrayed in TBBT as a bad person, but in Young Sheldon I personal feel he is the unsung hero.

Man this feels conflicting, whule sheldon should get the chance to be more independent, when you think of a 11 year old kid being alone with a bunch of strangers much older than the kid and the kid usually having problems with communicating it sounds worrying esp with the things you hear from the news and media.

Sheldon's dad is alot more likeable than l ever thought he would be. It's too bad he dies. This is the problem with doing a prequel. The characters created may be nicer and better than they are portrayed in the future show.
And remember guys & gals, George had an offer for a better more stable job, with better pay, but turned it down because Mary manipulated the rest of the family and turned them against him. So any financial issues they encounter are entirely her fault.
Sheldon socializing is a good thing. Leave the boy to grow and have fun. The dorm is safe and no one is going to duck around with a kid. Especial a kid who the Uni is so high on. Let him live Mary!

TBBT really did dirty by George. He was always just a good father, never a perfect father, but always the best father he could be to his kids and as good a husband as possible to his wife.
This hits really close, my mother is the same. So worried about what could go wrong at every turn that is not able to have the least confidence in anyone around her, to the point that if you don't pay attention begins to corrode your self confidence and that's especially dangerous when you are young and being raised by someone like that. It costed me four decades to even realize what actually is my parents importance in my pathological inferiority complex and utter lack of self worth.
Once in a while everyone deserves a hug. We don’t say out loud but we feel very relaxed and unknowingly vent out some invisible stress and feel light, focused and energized to pick up things where we left off.

Best comedy ever. ALL the cast are amazing and writing and production too. UK Netflicks only got 4 series and I'm watching again on channel E4.
