  • Here's a lesson on how to improve your proportions and perspective and draw anything more accurately. It takes a very special tool called "Negative Space." Once you see it, you won't be able to unsee it.

I think the hardest part is saying “I screwed it up, but who cares?”. That is the lesson for me. Perfectionist….guilty!!

Thank you sir for teaching young men like I the art of drawing. I started watching your videos yesterday and I already have like 20 journal pages of sketchings of all different sorts. In total in one day I have done about 40-50 random sketchings and I'm excited to draw even more today. It's a shame this channel isn's better known, but I'm sure it wil grow. Wish you all a great day, and keep drawing.

that one was harder, I would lapse into drawing the outline of the chair, then had to keep reminding myself to concentrate on the negative space. Took a bit to really see the squares in the chair. Got there in the end yeehaa! Thankyou for another great lesson Danny, you are a wonderful teacher 🙃

Your calmness is amazing. I feel your teaching skills and they encourage me to do what you say! The negative space I always thought I understood it. But this video made me realize I really didn’t. Now I have a much better understanding of its importance. Thank you. Karen Dirmish, learner

I've known what negative space *is* for a very long time conceptually, but what I really appreciate about this video is the why and how being so thoughtfully discussed and illustrated (pun not intended). What a useful thing, to have that tool to draw on (pun still not intended) when flummoxed by what I'm wanting to draw! Thank you very much.

Your tips are always so helpful. They actually helped me draw a few pieces successfully which i have not been able to do it before . Thanks a lot ❤

Wow. I pray as part of my art practice & I'm now feeling I am blessed to have found this series as one last bit of research/ study while cleaning, before resuming hands on art. 1 metaphorical painting i intend to do involves a chair very similar in structure to the 1 in this video & i didn't realize the power of negative space to this degree. Thanks!

I like the concept of drawing the negative space, thanks for the example. As I was watching it become apparent to me, or at least this was how I rationalize it in my mind, when you got towards the bottom of the chair, there was a shift. The floor had become more detailed than the chair, making it easier to assess the chair as the negative space. I think this was my take away from the video, and something I have gained. Thanks…

By turning the picture to be drawn upside down it is easier to draw the negative spaces. It keeps the left side of the brain at bay. Apparently. 😊

My rudimentary understanding in fooling my visual is to see things in 2D. If i could faithfully copy this 2D visual, and if dimensions and angles are not messed up, it might look 3D on paper 🤣
