      Kyle Patel I personally think they're just not really good, not the best padding, they don't last as long as you would, no wrist support and the weight is not well spread across the glove which gives it a heavier feel on the hands

    Thanks for the input, JT. I actually just purchased a pair of TITLE bag gloves and training gloves a couple weeks ago. At first I didn't like the bag gloves because I couldn't feel any pop on my punches that I would normally feel with training gloves, but I have gotten used to them now and they feel great. I also like switching from bag gloves to training gloves during my workout, but I will definitely try to strictly only used training gloves on sparring days in order to maintain them. Thanks for the advice.

    I think it all comes down to personal preference I've played with many gloves over the last 10 plus years. And in the end the design I seem to prefer from gloves are soft with good amount of padding to not bottom out to not only protect my knuckles but also keep my thumb safe , have a slim profile, that offer a snug fit, and have great wrist support.

    Well, I've got 2 pairs of 12 oz gloves: Title Revolution Velcro for heavy bag work and lace-up Grants for sparring. Grant gloves are pretty much overpriced typical Mexican puncher's gloves just like Reyes. I sort of got lucky and bought them slightly used half-price from a newcomer at our gym. It took the loaded guy a couple of months to realize that boxing was not his thing. And you know what? I'm loving them;-) They're high quality lightweight ,soft and fit really great. And since we're not usually going at it full power in sparring my partners really don't mind.

    Excellent points on the wrapping and wrists and hands. For that reason I hated the Ringside IMF gloves without the laces. By far the best wrist support is the hayabusa tokushu glove, but some people find them a bit restrictive for straight boxing. Your own brand gloves actually looked pretty decent. Hey JT big fan of yours your videos have helped me to progress and if i ever manage to get the visa you can expect a visit in Toronto !
    Anyway i felt like adding some infos for the gloves as i had the same questions in mind not so long ago.
    When i started boxing i use to have the 12Oz Adidas, then someone offered me the 10Oz everlast. I can say now they are shit gloves ! Not impressed at all with the everlast, they didn't even lasted a year - i was using them mostly in drills.
    I now own two sets of gloves : the hayabuza Regenesis, 16oz, they're great for the bag, i love the double scratch and the padding is good. They don't feel as heavy as regular 16oz but they're a bit big the thumb part is not really great for most people (i'm actually ok with it).
    Last month I actually invested in a pair of Winnings in 14Oz and i can see why they got such a good reputation. They fit so well, you just feel natural in them. They are light and the padding is excellent ! I use them for my drills and sparring, and i just love them ! Plus my opponents never complain, so the fact it's not a 16oz pair is not an issue at all. And to be a bit on the practical side i use some auto-blocking kind of lace, so i don't have to ask anyone to lace them for me everytime. It's quite convenient !
    Can't say enough of much i love these. They are an investment but i think when you practice 5 times each weeks like i do, you do want to protect your hands and it's going to be worth it anyway cause they won't be broken as fast as the cheap ones.
    Hope i was of some use.
    Cheers man !

    For bag work I prefer the old school bag gloves with thin high density padding. They are hard as rocks but the force seems to be delivered into the bag rather than my joints. A larger heavily padded glove doesn't penetrate the bag and relays much of the force into my aging joints. It is counter intuitive that a smaller denser glove would be better for an older guy but that is my experience.

    • @PrecisionBoxing
      @PrecisionBoxing  Před 6 lety

      That's interesting, I'm going to look into the physics of it. Like comparing a pitchfork to a sledgehammer

    • @DragonSlayer-tg5mk
      @DragonSlayer-tg5mk Před 6 lety

      I found this out purely by chance. I am now 60 and have been hitting bags since the 1970s. I am 250 lbs and still have a lot of power. I was using 18oz gloves on the bag and it was killing my joints. I really didn't want to give it up because it's such a good workout. On a whim one day I decided to pull out my old school bag gloves with the thin super high density padding. I was amazed when the joint pain went away! I can now hit it as hard as I want with no pain! Those hard little gloves also make a loud popping noise when hitting the bag which got the attention of the youngsters. I can only theorize that those gloves actually penetrate the bag and leave noticeable "dents" while the huge surface area of the 18oz gloves prevent this from happening and relay the force to my joints instead of the bag.

      lisar3006 cool, from what I know Twins are very well made. The ones I had before were a bit bulky and I did not like that, but overall you are looking at lasting quality. Let me know what you find.

      They are bulky but they are not bag gloves. I don't like how the weight is all up front and will most likely get a pair of Mexican gloves if I get to spare.

    Whats the resting heart rate for a boxer? In his prime, mine is 54bpm, just wondering, and you're the man to speak to! Thanks

    • @PrecisionBoxing
      @PrecisionBoxing  Před 9 lety +3

      MrMe4u2nv I wish resting heart rate was a big factor in boxing because mine is pretty good but the truth is it's not a big deal, when I"m in good shape my RHR is between 41-43, right now it's 48. An elite runner with no boxing skill can come to the sport and maintain an amazing resting heart rate. What I think is a better guage is your ability to get down to 120 bpm or less after revving your heart rate above 170 with boxing specific activity. for example, if you hit the bag for a round and get your heart rate up to 85-90% of your max heart rate, how low can you get your heart rate within the minute break between rounds. You'll find that after a certain number of rounds you cannot recover the same and this is where your weakness is.

    i got machina gloves - small co. w/ boxing stuff for women. 14 oz gloves pretty well made and fits really well around my pretty small wrists. i know there's too many brands to review - but great co. for a niche market that the rest of the industry ignores other than making the cheapest glove in pink...

    What does anyone think about the concept of weighted gloves? They say "punchers are born" so do they just help you keep your guard up for longer periods of time without getting tired/sore? Isn't that what the speed bag is for?

      Wait til either the moment they use 16oz in sparring or you put on 12oz to fight. Their arms are going to die as they will use muscle to spar and yours are going to fly as you will have conditioned your small muscles to work :) then you will have your fun :)

    Thanks for the video. By the way JT has posted a lot of videos, but has he posted one on punching while moving laterally ? Suppose I'm moving right are there any combinations that are superior ? Similarly what about moving left ? Or is it better to just move then punch, rather than trying to punch while moving ? Thanks.

    Quick question for everyone. For amateur bouts are the boxing gloves provided worn in already or are they brand new gloves? Can you provide you bring your own gloves to an amateur even if the gloves are the same brand and weight required for the bout? Last in pro boxing matches do you get to break in your boxing gloves before the bout?

  • @fitnready4

    It amazes me that most beginners don't understand the importance of Boxing Gloves PROTECTING the users hands. JT explains this very well. If you have poor punch technique you risk damaging your hands and wrists more seriously. You can't hurt and opponent with a busted wrist. Well said JT!

    ***** I have a cheap pair (about $60) of Windy's that I really like. My only complaint is that the thumb compartment seems to keep my thumb in an uncomfortable position. They seem to protect my hands real well while striking a heavy bag.
