Fantastic advice as always, J! My favorite is the jab, pivoting lead hook, right straight.
sweet. thx bro!
Same
fightTIPS it's shaaane
Ngl I always use this combo 😂😂
That boy Shane!!
Your videos are great. You don't have that cocky way of teaching like a lot of them do. It makes me have a respect, and want to learn from you. Thanks again bro.
David Carter thx Dave, I have respect for anyone who wants to get into boxing or full contact martial arts, the dedication and hard work it takes says a lot about a person
David Carter I agree. great advice highlighting the complexity of boxing.
JT Van V I have "acquired" several boxing dvd series, since I started recently. I can truthfully say I wasted my time, should have just found your channel sooner. It surprised my that there were great jiu jitsu dvds (serra, gracie barra, etc) Muay thai (Rob Kaiman, Razor Rob, etc), but so many lackluster boxing dvds. If you were not such a great guy you could easily monetize your instruction.
jandrmayers thanks my man, I actually do monetize my instruction here, just not all of it - www.precisionstriking.ca/shop/
it doesn't really take away from him being a great guy by monetizing his instruction. he obviously spends countless hours and has immense personal passion for the sport and teaching. the quality and value of his channel is awesome and i certainly appreciate having access to the content for free but JT deserves and nothing wrong with gettin paid for doing something you love and sucha great service to others. I know what u mean though.
I've seen about 20 of this blokes videos before commenting...he's the best instruction around.
Feint Jab> Jab> Right hand
Feint Jab> Side Step Left Hook> Right hand
Double Jab> Feint right hand> Uppercut to the Body> Right hand
Enso your 2nd is like mine but i go with a right hook at the end ,, it's pretty powerful combo though
Enso ,LLC oooooh youd walk into my left banger bru
Im southpawed so i move out left too. An yea ive ate some heavy right hands at times when it gets read
And then you turn off the xbox
These all suck
This is the best Boxing related channel on youtube. I wish I could fly there and train under you. lots of respect for your methodology and humility.
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, select, start
😂
Jake R1, R2, L1, L2, left, down ,right, up, left, down, right, up.
SpikenMike I mean, if you have guns, get out of the boxing channel! lol
+Jake contra haha
+TheSillyGoose Yessuh!
1) jab, jab, overhead right. 2) jab, cross, slip, circle, left hook to the body, right hook to the head. 3) fake left hook to the body, right hook to the head, left hook to the head. And thank you for these videos, simply superb! :)
For anyone looking for a great combo, my favorite is a 1 1 2 to the body 3 back up top with a straight right following the hook. Took it from Pacquiao when he knocked down Keith Thurman. Great for pushing them back fast and dropping them as they are retreating
#1 right uppercut, left hook, roll, left hook (infight or at a distance)
#2 straight left, right uppercut, left hook, straight right, look for an opening then come with another straight right (going back or walking forward)
#3 straight right, left hook (roll, left bodyuppercut, left uppercut)
so many things you can do with these combination (adding more punches, rolls etc.
I'm only just starting with boxing (3-4 months in...) coming from Ving Tsun and I must say, this channel is great for breaking some things down. I've learned a lot so far and hopefully I will be able to make more out of your instructional videos as I move along. Great job JT, keep going!
Your tutorials are brilliant... learning so much and it's showing in my training... Thank you very much for making those tutorials and making them available for everyone. Much appreciated...! Nadja
Naddls Hope my pleasure Nadja, thanks for watching
1. Twisting jab - right uppercut (the twisting jab splits open the guard for your uppercut).
2. Jab - right straight to the body - left hook/left uppercut (by a shot to the body, the hands go low, then comes your hook/uppercut).
3. Catch the jab - counter with a right straight/right hook (try to push his jab down to counter with a right straight/right hook).
4. Jab - left hook - right hook. (you're going to step in when you want to throw the left hook).
5. Jab - right uppercut - left hook - right hook.
In kickboxing I would always follow all these combos up with a livershot and finish it with a good right low-kick to end my typical Dutch Style kickboxing combo (accept at #2).
If you make them on full speed with good timing, they will be effective for sure :)
Another great video JT Van V !
I mainly use two simple combos:
-jab to the body then follow it straight up with the jab cross to the head.
-Slip the right cross, then hop with both feet to get in close and give them a sharp left rip to the body followed by a quick uppercut. Changed it a little after watching your gazelle punch video. Works a treat as I love counter punching and the footwork you showed makes it even easier! Thanks mate!
thanks for all the knowledge on the basic combinations bro. Thanks for explaining all the moves in detail. Your channel is one of the best I've found on CZcams.
thank you very much JT Van. i stumbled across you via you tube about a year ago & liked th e way you broke stuff down as well. very simplistic and strait forward and you always seem to try to be as helpful as possible. you also seem to have a genuine passion for it that i can respect. i myself have been training for about 3 years. anyway keep up the great videos
Great video. I'm a huge fan of a good ole 1-2, changing levels with the hooks, and finishing with an uppercut. Basically working the jab, and working it some more, setting them up for a wonderful surprise.
At 47 I'm starting boxing to get fit and maybe have the odd match as it's a bit of an itch to scratch, you have a great teaching style, humble, modest but obviously professional. Thanks for the videos
thanks for you videos JT Van V.I watch your videos and then put it on work on the gym.Definitely helping me to evolve.thank you.Hugs from Brazil
Excellent work and break down, thanks for sharing!
From ether stance
1,2,3(or 4), (forward)
1,2,2 (still)
3,2,1, (retreating)
I took Thai boxing first and really wish I had not. Ether way I prefer the t-stance over the boxers stance. But Thai boxers rely less on fists and more on the whole body. I consider boxing the sister of Thai boxing since they are so interchangeable.
I love the cotto's style he always keeps moving.
Yes bro! First combo you shared is one of my favorite!
great video man thanks for taking the time to put it up.
Quick shout out for the videos man, taught me so muc
+Dom Hutson wicked!
+JT Van V Yeah! Awesome videos - I'm at a gym with trainers but they don't guide me in some of the ways your videos do. Your tips have helped me tremendously. Keep them coming!
I haven't thought of favorite combos specifically, but what I find myself doing on the bag a lot is a left jab, right cross, slip to the outside followed by a left hook to the body and a right overhand to the head. Not sure why I do it, but I fire that off a lot faster than anything else and instinctively.
6 years ahead and i do this exact same thing except when i slip outside i do left hook once to body and once to head
awesome video man finding these combos work lovely.
thanks! i needed this
Orthodox:
1st:right uppercut, left hook, straight right.
2nd:overhand right dropping down to throw left hook to body then left hook to head
3rd: Jab ,left hook ,right uppercut ,straight right
you have such a sound knowledge of boxing and are inspiration to lot of beginners like me.. Thanks sir.
I may be late to the party but damn your technique, footwork, and head movement are so crisp and a real joy to watch
Appreciate your clear illustration. Thanks !
good stuff as always
thx Buff, your style is impetuous, your defense is impregnable!
JT Van V
haha that is a true statement
lmao
South Paw here: Drilled into me when I was taught by Kevin Barry Jr - boxing coach of David Tua/Joseph Parker... right jab followed by double left hook (either 2 to the body or body/head).
cool! thx for sharing that
I do the same, very effective
This is just what I needed to to add a little confidence for next time as well as something to work on. Great vid!
love the video with the footwork explanation
double jab, right, step back right
fake jab, jab, hook, right, step back to the right side right
fake jab, body jab, right
+Mariusz Pawlukowiec you should use numbers or indicate which hand is hooking/uppercutting. Also its normally called a cross (unless your referring to an overhand right?)
Mario J. Pav really?? what mma gyms are you training at? I've trained with some of the top MMA guys in the world for over 15 years and, yes, sometimes they call out the actual strike but ANYONE worth their salt will know the difference between a 2 and an 8. I'm guessing your somewhat of a novice and there is NOTHING wrong with that. Dude was just trying to give you info. Just chill, take the advice. use it, and continue kicking ass!!
Hanes MMA Don't judge someone fighting skills based on youtube comment. He might be the best fighter in existence that just need a little bit hype, or he could be just more or less equally to you. Control your emotion and defense instinct on internet, you'll only realized when it is about 300 replies per week in the section. :p
1. double jab, straight, hook to the liver
2. jab, right hook, left uppercut
3. jab, slip, hook to the liver, right hook
Thank you for showing footwork, great work overall.
Jas i love all the vids you post , im 55 and use it for my cardio workouts . hitting the heavy bag is so different now ..i actually look like a boxer. and the boxing lads say im doing well and who taught me..i direct them to you . many of them did not know to use the bands shown in one of your vids for power and asked me what its for so i showed them the vid itself...Much respect from the UK mate.
That's awesome Dave! I appreciate your support and it means a lot to hear that you are getting so much out of boxing.
left jab right cross left hook slip then right uppercut.
left jab left jab then hard right hook
switch to southpaw then jump forward with a left uppercut then switch back to orthodox and right hand.
Left fake hook to get his attention and then full power on right uppercut always works for me.
yep!
Thx for all the vids
Love them
Well explained
always good real deal stuff.one of the best trainers/videos on youtube!
1, jab, straight right hand , left hook , straight right
2, double jab, straight right , left hook
3, jab , right hook to the body , right uppercut
from southpaw, jab , cross, cross, step behind. Works everytime! Two crosses in a row really throw off the opponent.
From orthodox i've used that same combo, the second cross is a real nose breaker lol good choice
wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank uuuuuu both
thats a manny combo and one of my favourites!
Hey man I keep coming back to this vid from time to time, good stuff man
Excellent explanation. Thank you for the pro job on this.
straight right, left hook, overhand right
i love to hook off the jab, and make it look slow and predictable, only to get them really focusing on the hook and trying to counter me, so i can come with my right, but also if i make the hook nice and short it keeps the guy form countering over my jab me being the usually shorter fighter, but 1 2 1 step back 2 3, or since i use the tyson peek a boo , so i jab, slip left (double it if needed), left shovel body then left hook, great video
+brad harris nice!
im about to send you a pair of rivals, i always liked more tradional looking gloves by now ill never go back to the others
I love hooking off the jab, sometimes jab off the hook too
tyler jones great example of doubling the hook not for speed but deception and timing is ggg vs stevens first knockdown, beautifil, but in terms of speed watch floyds triple left hooks esp early in his career, my god still the most amazing thing ive ever seen in boxing in terms of a skill
Good information! Keep up the great work!
Great advice and one of my favourite you tubers!!!
my favorite combo is 1,1,2 and he's down ^_^
when im being smothered or the guys keeping good pressure on me and not much room, i like to throw a 6 3 2 or 5 2 3 i call it the get the fuck off me combo. im long so i dont like to be there but when i am the "get the fuck off me" combos seems to work or at least create space to get out.
sean kalinoski lol i love it, its the GTFO combo!
I'm new to boxing and I've caught up pretty quick thanks to your videos and endless work at home following your videos! Your form is completely amazing I'm jealous!
Hi,
I find your explanations clear and simple for really effective techniques.
The first combo I've learned and still put in practice is left head, right to body and left hook. Works fine for me.
Thanks for your vids, I use them a lot for my learning (I am a 35 old beginner).
My favorite combo is 1-1-2 or 1-1 then a left kick. Pretty basic stuffs, but it works almost every time :).
Brock McClain southpaw or orthodox ?
"double jab, right upper cut, left hook, right str8"-one eyed boxer
"cat srcatch fever - fake jab, spleen punch, liver blow, overhandright" -joesph Benavidez
"triple jab...leaping left, klitschko-clinch"- meh
Really loved this video. Very educational and you broke it down so well. Thank you.
Down to earth, solid explanations. Respect!
1-1-2 followed by a faint with a hook and the finisher to that is a chopping right
It's effective if you can pull it off. Already broke a punching bag
Also. If you want something effective then: First throw a hook with your non-dominate hand and if your opponent is an in-fighter and dodges that to go in for the kill, give him a short uppercut while he is under that hook
Finland Fox , everything is easyer said than done wen ur dealin wit a high exp fighter like myself, speed an reflexes are everything in a combat not so much the skills, words from the father of MMA an still the greatest to this day, Bruce Lee.
1. Reach for the gun
2. Pull trigger
Joshua Dos Santos Also, aim.
@@flatpickerd28 he might want to shoot his leg
Love your channel, great advice. Keep up the good work.
Loved your video. Keep up the good work!
basic combos orthodox
#1 jab to body, straight to head
#2 left hook body, left uppercut head
#3 jab, straight, uppercut, straight
southpaw #1 jab, lead hand uppercut, straight
#2 cross, cross stepping to the your right
#3 uppercut, jab, straight
remember to punch with your two knuckles and punch through the target
I don't understand why you would say that? Maybe if you're Mike Tyson and can do so? Otherwise I thought you would be shorting your punch and not getting full power.
1-1-2 I'm 5'10 with 75 reach
+Angel King From what I've seen if you have a long reach, the jab and straight right are gonna be by far your best punches. Sometimes it's hard for somebody with long arms to get a hook (especially a left hook) around for max damage, but your straight punches will be deadly.
Nice video again mate. Been sparring at a beginner level for over a year now and am still struggling to have a competitive round with any of the intermediate amateurs at our gym and feel like I'm in a bit of a rut. I'd welcome a video on basic sparring techniques, particularly getting away from the ropes when you're being backed up.
Thanks again for all the videos, keep up the good work.
I've a 50 KG-Bag, i'm watching your videos all the time, learning a lot, really helps me. thanks for everything !
My favorite combo is a right hook followed by a knee to the body and finishing off with a nice swift elbow. It always does the trick... But that's MMA not boxing :P
Thanks for your videos. Very good stuff.
1. Jab, Cross, Left upper cut cross..Bread and butter. This combo opens up so many opportunities to land more shots its crazy.
2. Double jab, Cross to solar plexus while slipping to the left, left hook body, left hook head, finish with cross
3. Jab, Cross followed immediately with a backfist, while coming through with backfist I switch stance and come through with left overhand, right upper to body, spinning back elbow/fist.
I personally like to overwhelm people with speed, constant striking and change of levels. Its a pretty effective method. It works beautifully for me. By the way, I appreciate you JT. Your tips are super helpful. You have truly helped my boxing big time.
I am working on my combination/rhythm with out being so predicatable! Thank you for awesome videos!
Nice combos right there; i ll try them out tonight! thanks for posting
legit memorised all these for a fight that’s coming up for me so thanks g
I'm really new to boxing, but my favourite combos so far that I'm decent with is to slip down to the left - left to the body - left hook - straight right. Or a quick 1-2 up top followed by a strong left to the body, then spinning clockwise to the left. Thanks for the videos man, really helping me get started from home :) Peace
1, 1, 2, slip left/block, power 3! Thank you for teaching.
Thanks for Sharing Bro!
awsome video bro. very well instructed
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for the great advice...!
thanks for your advice Van , you have the skills!
wow , whole new perspective on boxing. your vids are great!!!
Great videos man keep them up
this is helpful, I've done 6 years of karate and a few years of boxing. I have my first street fight in 8 weeks and since I'm in university and away from classes this is a good refresher
Just wanna thank you for making videos. I'm 16 I've been boxing for 3 months and I love to learn more but my trainer is also training so he's busy I watch these then go back to the gym the next day and work on them. I'm gonna surprise him when we spar on Friday with these new combos.
+casandra moreno nice!
mma background - so my 3 favorites are - 1) jab, cross (doesn't have to land more of a distraction) then throw the right body kick almost at the same time.
2) Against the cage. jab, cross, left body shot, cross
3) side step to left to get an angle as I jab, right kick across the body since I'm at an angle. I land this everytime I spar.
Incredible teacher!!
love the right hand and the right hook
Another excellent video. These are really helpful for beginners like me.
Downloaded the Precision Striking App! Top quality stuff! Great channel as well! Thanks JT!
Thank you, I really appreciate support
Loved your vid! I have a sparring comming up & will be using your top 3!
Great vid! My fav one must be jab -pop out, pop back in quickly with a left hook, cross with a slip to the left/overhand right. It is kinda odd to go back with the same hand so most folks dont expect it, expecially when it breaks the rhythm after a jab-cross-left hook or smth
Thank you so much for your videos it helps alot I am working with a new fighter and it keeps things fresh .Keep them flowing your a great teacher too
Mark Hebebrand
+Mark Hebebrand thank you!
Great vid man. Really clear thinking.
1) fake the jab then right cross body shot with shuffle slip to close distance then left body hook then left head hook
2) jab, right long cross, right short cross, sometimes catches opponent unaware
3) jab or double jab to close distance then right body hook, left body hook
I love this guy. I want to see these kind of people grow and get rich. They deserve it.
Thanks for these videos!!
Great Vids as always.
i luv the 3rd one. i cant wait to use it during the bag work or the sparr
I've just got back in to boxing. Great video man. Subscribed instantly
Mine is double jab-feint right hand- uppercut to the body and then a right hand
You're the greatest man!
