- Years before the events of Fallout: New Vegas, The First Battle Of Hoover Dam marked the biggest failure in the Legion's history, and the loss of their first Legate, but what would happen if they won this battle?

You know I had to gone done do the Joshua route 😄. But what do you think would have happened differently?
Are you ever going to do a what if NCR survived the fall of shady sands
Or an interactive What if story, I’m a big fallout fan
@@ys5pj 🤷
@@ys5pj I have done an interactive story before, The "What If The Enclave Stayed at Navarro After Fallout 2" video.
Ok thanks for the reply
For anyone thinking Joshua Graham's survival unrealistic: this is still *MORE* realistic than what happened to him in game.
I find it more believable than being burned alive and being thrown a down the Grand Canyon.
true tho but it's metal as fuck
Hell the in game one is more realistic than van buren version
Which is more survivable, getting set on fire and being thrown off the grand canyon? Or being hanged and falling down hoover damn? Actually when you say it like that this actually does seem more survivable.
@@tinopulkka956 if graham hit the ridges/wall parts of the canyon then it would be more likely than him getting hanged then fall off Hoover dam I mean it would be more painful but survivable for a man that can take a 50 bmg to the chest and live
This turned from alternate history to Joshua Grahm fan fiction.
I like it.
And it’s one that’s faithful to his character and Fallout storytelling
I broke out laughing when the lightning struck his noose
@@zedzed5 Not any further fetched than being lit on fire and thrown into the Grand Canyon and walking it off lol.
@@TheTeddyGuy28 With God, all things are possible.
Honestly, him living that is the most realistic thing in Fallout, given that it's actual miracles.
i love the notion of graham becoming a living legend being a canon event. no matter what happens, he will inexplicably survive despite everything. burned man or hanged man.
He had God on his side. He was saved spiritually and physically.

I really liked the idea of legionnaires using road signs for shields would make a pretty cool mod
Im not sure if the Engine can do that, like from a System Perspective
There are mods that do give legionnaire's Shields but I don't think they Protect you or them.
@@bryanjimenez8971 I mean even if it's visual it's still pretty cool
In Metro: Last Light the Red Line (AKA: the Stalinist Communists with a Trotskyist view of expansionist policy) use shields in the Battle for D6 against the Spartan Rangers so their flamethrower units can get into range without being shot at by the Rangers defending with their backs against the wall.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Omega used that as inspiration :D
@@suspectnutriaNo the inspiration was Roman Phalanxes.
Lanius: butchers tons of troops in order for a minor gain
Caesar: awww, you're sweet!
Joshua: butchers tons of troops in order for a minor gain
Caesar: Hello, crucifixion resources!!
What if Frank Horrigan escaped the rig.
Devs did say he would have survived if the chosen one didnt have plot armor
Realistically he would’ve died as he eats through a straw
It's funny how weak the canon Chosen One is compared to his potential.
Killing Frank in one round without help is quite feasible if you fully tap the Chosen One's potential - I suppose they didn't want him to be overpowered, so they made the diplomacy build canon.
It would be awesome to see the “What if the NCR lost the first Battle of Hoover Dam?” (Basically what’s going on at the NCR during these events.)
Exactly this

Joshua does remember the basics of CQC.
How was he around in Metal Gear Solid?
@@AdrianFahrenheitTepes It's New Vegas, I won't be surprised if he saw it in a holotape.
@@arizona-hunter6684 imagining Big Boss as Joshua’s own “literally me” is both funny and also brings a surprising amount of context to his character
I just remembered Joshua Graham was called the hanged man in Fallout Van Bruan and you did it here too. Poetic!
The Joshua Graham execution….. it’s beautiful….. this is the most beautiful of your videos dude…… 🥹🥹🥹
"Execution"

"If only to take his scolding like a man,but it never came"
For anyone wondering why Caesar was trying his best to get rid of Joshua, remember that even as the Malpais Legate, he was already a threat to his uncontested rule of the Legion. Caesar may be the brains, and it may be HIS Legion, but Joshua was the one putting in the work, fighting on the front with his legionaries and using his civilized upbringing to his advantage in warfare. Caesar was not a warrior, Joshua was. Caesar was merely putting on the front of the Son of Mars, he swears like a sailor if you tick him off enough, but Joshua is genuinely affable, stoic, calm, and measured.
Joshua would inevitably become more popular than Caesar if he was left alive, and that simply would not do. Coupled with the fact that he's the only other person who knows that the Legion is built on a lie, a twisted, poisonous idea of the Old World's history, and the fact that he knows Caesar's less than impressive upbringing, well...
Yeah, I'm more surprised Joshua lasted this long with hos many times Caesar tried to hold him under the bus.
Also, I love how poetic the endings are, and even the events leading up to that. I get the idea that the legionaries left Joshua alone both out of fear for his power and respect for when he commanded them and their comrades in battle, so I can totally see him taking control of the Legion and reforming it to be the REAL civilization that Caesar was simply pretending it was.
Thesis, antithesis, synthesis. Caesar's own idea works against him. The thesis is the brutality of the Malpais Legate, the antithesis is the Hanged Man, and the synthesis is what becomes of the Legion after he delivers his judgement on the dictator that used it to ravage the wasteland.
Another thing, the mental image of the NCR stumbling upon a reformed Legion is hilarious. I'm just imagining every trooper grabbing their weapons only to reluctantly stand down after realizing that the legionaries are just spreading around gospels and helping settlers build around the area. Maybe their humiliating defeat in the Mojave finally taught their government a lesson and it found its way back to the original ideas the NCR was founded on. Maybe it finally stopped being an imperialist nation ripping itself apart by expanding too much.
Hopefully.
Hegelian Dialectics were invented and written for men like Caesar. How beautifully poetic that Joshua would become the Churchillian Inversion of the concept.
Damn couldnt have said it better 👏
Doesn't it feel contradictory to punish his most effective general for... Succeeding? That doesn't make sense, is that even Sallow at that point?(Like seriously, Caesar only expects results and doesn't care how it's done. If that was the case, the Courier would get a mouthful that he did a thing Caesar didn't want him to do even if it got the job done) Even if he is scared of Joshua's popularity. You can't just punish your general for succeeding based on casualties as an excuse alone, the entire Legion throws recruit legionaries into the fray because the military is based on martial prowess. This seems to undermine Caesar's whole character as a whole.
Could you also explain why Caesar is still the Emperor when his intentions was to make the nation into a republic?
@@Blackandwhitecat-to5ll 1. caesar is history's hypocrite. it doesn't matter if something makes no sense to anyone or even his own internal logic, if he wants to do it, he'll do it, consequences be damned
2. caesar clearly has no idea how to actually turn his roving band of marauders into a standing army protecting an ACTUAL nation, so i'm not surprised that he's just winging it and trying to figure out how the hell he's supposed to accomplish his delusional power fantasy while sitting on his throne in the ultra luxe
It would be absolutely horrifying for anyone unlucky enough to live in New Vegas.
Oh brother wait till you see fallout dust
Sounds like something a filthy profligate would say.....
@@SergeantAnthraxthats a mod right?
@@feliciaf8 yep, basically what happens to new Vegas if the couriers a speed runner asshole, imagine Sierra Madre's tone and difficulty except it's like that all the time, you get killed in two shots, you got tunnelers crawling up your ass the moment you step off the road, the only remnants of two factions shoot you on site, and any other survivors of the Fall are either cannibals or just don't like the look of ya. Overall 10/10 the mod gave me Stockholm syndrome
@@feliciaf8a Mod for every bad ending in new vegas happened all @ once.
honestsi its kinda unfortunate that there wasnt any roman shield tactics used by legion on the game, well tought out i must say.
Yep although I'd chalk it up to engine limitations it still would have been cool to see legionaries with shields. Glad to see it in this video though.
I mean it makes sense for this legion, led by Graham and one that has not suffered a single defeat to very well use roman wave tactics and shieldwalls...
By the New Vegas time, after suffering the defeat at first Battle, Legion has completely reshuffled its strategy, copying NCR's fireteams and moving on to reliance on guerilla warfare and subterfurge.
because that doesn't work when your enemies have bullets?
Even Byzantium abandoned that system to use the more viking-style shield formations that involved spears.
Because carrying around a sheet of metal strong and thick enough to stop modern firearms is pretty much just losing the battle by exhausting your soldiers before they reach the enemy. Basically you'd need a Sentry Bot to move it around the battlefield and you'd have to downgrade its weapons so it doesn't overheat and fry the soldiers behind it.
@@anvos658 You underestimate the stamina of the legionnaires...
They are being brought up all their life in flagstaff, a place where american athletes go to train before olympics due to how high it is. Pushed through harshes training there is in the wasteland. Training everyday like olympic athletes, the legionnaires would be rather easily capable of walking around with this shit, as it would be a massive advantage against their most common type of foes- tribals.
The mercy ending is worthy of being in the game.
HONEY WAKE UP NEW OMEGA INITIATIVE VIDEO DROPPED
I have the same response, my dude.
Oh so that’s why you’ve been gone a long time. Can’t wait to watch later when I have the time
Great work again! Another fun one would be a what if Asher succeeded at the end of the PIT DLC and ended up with full steel production and a cure for the trig degeneration/maybe a cure for radiation period? (they were kinda vague about the babies powers)
Id be interested in it
The concept of the pitt becoming a wasteland superpower would be interesting
The Asher route aftermath definitely needs to be explored. So many possibilities, especially since there is the radiation resistance formula that was developed and given to the player at the end of the dlc (not the cure). Increased radiation resistance sounds like a big deal, and it leads the door open for other serums to be developed, sort of like Lesko's fire ant serums or the mutation serums from Fallout 76
The Mercy path reminds of the conversion of the Roman Empire to Christianity! If Edward can be considered the equivalent of Nero, Joshua would be Constantine in this timeline. Oh, and your narration of Joshua's redemption in the Cross was absolutely beautiful, that I think a few tears dropped from my eyes. Another great video, man!
ur not the only one
The one key difference is that the conversion of constantine and the officialization of christianity as the imperial religion, wasn't done out of genuine concern for morality or his soul. It was simply a political manouver to solidify his position in a world where the christian cult had effectively become too popular to treat like any other religion within the cosmopolitan empire. Owing to the supranational, almost "universal" values of new testament christianity, the cosmopolitan unification of religion through imperial ritual (where our term religion comes from, namely "religio", an official ritual all religious people had to perform, involving animal sacrifice, which the christians fervently stood against due to their belief that Christ had been the last sacrifice.) could no longer be held high as the golden standard of political power over the religious masses.
Another difference is that Joshua would likely use his newfound faith (whether justified or not) to preach peace, forgiveness, and teaching. Whereas the roman empire simply continued empiring, warring, conquering, killing, and violently opressing innocents, along with draining funds from the perifery for the good of the oligarchical elite of the hegemonic centre, all in the official name of "imperial peace". The christian religion was just another tool for mass control. One for whom the cosmopolitan ideals of old rome had to give way to a more dogmatic, monotheistic monolithic empire, with the new faith being the main ideology.
We can talk about justification all we want, but let's never forget this. Rome didn't suddenly have a change of heart. It had a change of political strategy.
hmm his new name would be constantine the second
@The.marauders there were 11 Constantines, so he'd be Constantine the 12th
Historical aesthetic wise, Joshua going by Augustus would make the most sense
This began as a legion story and turned into a Joshua story.

The legend returns. This channel is very definition of quality over quantity, the writing of Joshua is masterfully done, especially the inclusion of branching endings allowing the viewer to somewhat take part. Can’t wait for the next video, seriously.
Honestly this is a great day for a release
Love the imagery of Joshua as Christ. And just like Christ his word spelled the end of Rome and the brutality of the past for the hope of better world, not by blood and fire, but by love and mercy.
Christianity did not end Rome.
@@bobafett9348 true but it would end Rome as we think of.
@@greenknightofwar7024 What we think of as Rome is skewered and narrow vision of historical revisionists.
@@bobafett9348 I’m more so referring to Ancient Rome aka the Rome people usually think of. A society that in many ways is like the legion.
Rome *was* founded by two brothers, and one of them killed the other.
So I'd say yeah, Ancient Rome was brutal and Christianity killed the old Rome.
It is truly wonderful and a rare thing to see like, these alternative scenarios whether alt-history or fanfiction to, ya know, tell a fuckin' story?
Your local OWB dev here,
Letz phakin GOOOOOOOOOOOOH
Oh finally! A new video that’s-
An HOUR long???
An hour I will enjoy :D
I thought up a story of after the legions defeat at hover dam a new Rome is founded either at the mouth of the Missisippi or in the heart of Mexico. This new legion instead expands east and south to conquer its Mediterranean, the carribean and the gulf of Mexico. Eventually they attempt to take the ruins of the panama canal as a new Constantinople the crossroads of two contiments of a new Byzantium.

Honestly this story makes Joshua kind the modern day Jesus Christ of the wasteland.🐱
Don't make the comparison to his face though, lest he... gently correct you with a sermon. On second thought do, I wanna listen.
No other man could compare to the savior, we can strive to be like him but truly no man has the light in him like Christ.

Alright, I'm just going to say this. This story, this character arc... its utterly INCREDIBLE! I loved this so much! I may not be a regular viewer, and I may hate the Legion and what it is, but this... you sir are an incredible storyteller.
