Well done for all your efforts. I was surprised the company didn’t come out to do a final setup, install and check it was AOK. It did make me laugh thinking how much you must have spent on all that equipment and then seeing you using some dollar saw to cut up the white plastic pipe. Let’s hope the boss ( Mrs A ) is pleased with it. Otherwise it’s out in the backyard for a smoking adventure with Eddie and Edward when they make a visit.

You also asked what furniture would we recommend for your new sitting/smoking room? I would suggest a traditional leather couch and two matching leather chairs. We use a combo solution from Japan and Austria. This is an interesting home-use scenario.

That's worth an entire tutorial alone! Now, am I understanding this right? The entire smoke abatement system is recirculating? No exhaust? At all? The Camfil scrubs the smoky air from the main level and it's up to the main level HVAC to maintain ambient temperature? Now, I'm really interested. But a complaint: the ten seconds of smoke after 30 minutes of build up is insufficient. We want to see this system in action! I'm interested in seeing the performance with one, then two, then four people smoking simultaneously - and how much, if any, residual smoke can be sensed in the kitchen, living room and bedrooms. Looking forward to more videos on this!
I'm in the same boat, and have been looking at Roger + Chris for some leather club chairs. I think the Harley would be a good fit for Kirby's house / aesthetic, as it is a blend between the traditional and modern looks.
I just run it through the HVAC with filters on the intakes and a couple of air purifiers in the other rooms. Luckily my wife doesn’t complain about the smoke.
I would have enclosed the patio and added a separate heating/cooling system out there. But, this is still really interesting and has applications beyond just smoking. A system like this would potentially be useful for welding, soldering, woodworking, painting or many other things inside your house.

They create free radical molecules, which are said by some to be dangerous to your health; just a thought. I was told that this didn’t create ozone… but I’m going to call the manufacturer to better understand how it works. HVAC guys that sold it to me didn’t convince me they truly understood how it works.

Have you thought about an Energy Recovery Ventilator to bring fresh air into the house or specifically the smoking room? ERVs bring in fresh air from the outside, but they're designed to temper the air to the temperature and humidity from inside to save energy and comfort. Even if you're filtering particulates out of the air, you'll want to bring in more oxygen and expel the carbon dioxide. The HVAC systems sound oversized for new construction; 9-9.5 total tons is extreme, even for a very large house. The measurement of that is a true Manual J calculation. But if you wanted to add another unit just for the primary suite, you might consider an inverter-driven heat pump, which would work great in Texas. Lots of good building science content creators out there that you could do a crossover with!
Yes! The fresh air delivery is the weakest link of the entire system. I’ll look into an ERV. I find it frustrating that there isn’t more sophistication behind residential HVAC.
Kirby, the fact that the subcontractor installed something per code means you almost certainly have no legal recourse. No construction is perfect, and spending a ton of money on a house is not some guarantee that you will get higher-quality work. The same contractors that are doing work on $300k houses also do the work on $3M houses.
