  • Puerto Escondido offers a wide variety of food for being such a small city. You can find amazing seafood, local antojitos and even delicious european options. Our favorite spot features an amazing fish sandwich and grilled coconut shrimp in garlic sauce, so make sure to stick around til the end because we’re saving the best for last.
We’ll be pointing out our suggestions by area, so if you’re not familiar with the Puerto Escondido neighborhoods, make sure to check out our Puerto Escondido guide for an overview of the neighborhoods and their beaches.

This was such an important service for those of us planning a trip to south Oaxaca. Your eating locations make me want to go fly out there tomorrow! Could you also include talks with the cooks, and/or with the owners to get their perspectives of the food they serve as well as the history of their businesses? I think that would be cool as well. This was informative and entertaining. Mil gracias.

From the sandwich and green juice in the beginning, the tostada de pescado marinado, and that Italian spot looks freakin’ incredible! Hand made gnocchi? It helps that the police are quite strict on masks here! 2 hours in jail or $500 peso fine. Nevertheless, people are pretty good about wearing masks. And sanitizing. The food alone is good enough reason to visit but there’s also beaches and wildlife, so that’s cool too 😆

Great food tour video - loved it and all the different types of food that you had! As you travel over the next year, you will find there are so many types of mole - 20 - 25 at least. They vary as you travel, so what you find in Puerto will be quite different than what you find in Puebla (a real foodie town - beautiful old city). Enjoy and keep up the good work!

Kind'a late but here you are. Mole means simply "salsa", or sauce, in Nahua. Moles are varied and each State, even each town, has its specialty. They typically consist of a mixture of chiles, nuts, fruit and other spices. The ones made with chocolate are the mole poblano and the Oaxacan mole negro.
