I've been using AliExpress for a few years now, and there are some things I've learned and people new to AliExpress should know:
Use the mobile app to purchase stuff. Sometimes you can get a couple percent off by using the app.
Some stores give a few percent off to followers. You can follow a store by clicking on the follow button next to their name.
If possible, always use "AliExpress Standard Shipping" for all small packages. It usually cost a couple of bucks extra but has tracking, and from my experience almost always delivers in under 2 weeks (to the Netherlands).
When purchasing multiple small things like electronic parts, try to find a store that has most of the parts and will also combine the shipping costs instead of charging seperate shipping for all of the parts. You will have to select the same shipping method for all of them (I recommend "AliExpress Standard Shipping").
Watch out when using big shipping companies like DHL, FedEx, etc. I don't have a lot of experience with these shipping methods on AliExpress but they could charge extra duty and taxes.
There are different kinds of AliExpress stores. There are "branded" stores which usually only sell one product category, like electronics, and they're usually the only one which sells the products they have. Then there are these general resellers, which sell almost everything, and there are tons of these stores. When you're looking for something, there is almost always another store selling the same product for a different price.
When looking for 18650 batteries on AliExpress, look for very detailed reviews. There are reviews which only include a general capacity test which pretty much means nothing nowadays. There are fake batteries which have the rated capacity but simply can't handle the rated discharge, which 18650 testers don't test.
lygte-info(dot)dk is a great site with lots of battery information and tests. They also test things like 18650 chargers from China.
If a deal is just too good to be true, it usually is. Especially with 18650's with no reviews. Don't buy these.
I believe the highest capacity 18650 right now has 3600mAh, or maybe a bit more. "9900mAh" or other dirt cheap high capacity 18650 batteries are always fake.
I hope this helps some people using AliExpress. If you've read all of this and think it's helpful, please like this comment so more people can see it.

3600 are indeed the current limit for 18650s.
But for fake batteries you don't have to go to Ali Express, even in Ebay a lot of offers from crap brand batteries like Ultra fire are advertised with much more than 3600, and unfortunately a lot of people don't know this fact.

Here in Argentina, we have a big problem to shop and to import from overseas. Taxes... It's allowed to import just 50 U$D without taxes. But for the excedent ammount, we have to pay 50 % plus by taxes. And monthly salary it's around 600 U$D. Almost impossible to buy outside our country.

Hearing your explanation put that all together for me :) But her shopping was for goods other than any bike stuff. Thx for the enlightenment :) When I buy anything in the USA there's a 70% import tax coming into Thailand. I don't know if that's the same with China, but from what you say, it seems a sale well worth trying to see what import taxes there may be between Thailand and China.

I was not impressed with my experience last year on Ali Express. After buying a bike kit on 11-11. I found my products price drop another $100 a week later. Also the company emailed me and tried to get an additional$50 from me for shipping the battery. I complained about the price drop after I bought their product "On Sale" on 11-11 and they decided to wave the $50 additional shipping fee they were trying to get from me. They also told me the current cheaper price was a mistake, but they never fixed it on their website. Later found out from a friend that Chinese people will always try to scan more money out of people if they can now because they don't really care about customer loyalty. On black Friday I also noticed they raised the "Sale price" another $100 because they know people shop more on those days. Just be very cautious. Hope my story helps.

    • @bob-ny6kn
      @bob-ny6kn Před 4 lety +2

I understand. I hope you get better deals in the future. No one likes getting ripped off.
Back in my day, pre-internet (we used "magazines" made of "paper"), I purchased my first computer, a 16MHz 80186 desktop. It was an awesome machine, faster than anything at work (especially the WANG). A few years later, I used the same company to purchase my first laptop, a 33Mhz 80286, both from an unknown company called Gateway, and I was not disappointed… I decided to purchase from Gateway because I read and compared other computers over months. Seven years later, as I was ready to purchase another faster, smaller, laptop computer, I read and compared again… but Gateway had turned from a "support the customer" business to a "one-time-sale" business without tending to unsatisfied customers… so I opted for another no-name (at the time) and was pleased.
So, set an alarm for 11 August 2020 (three months) to start looking on AliExpress for trends. Write to the companies who have products you like, and ask if they will be lowering the price for 11/11 (or after).
TL;DR - Try not to impulse-buy. It feels fun, but it usually disappoints. Do your homework. It does not take long. Happy singles day!

I've been using Ali Express since 2013 on an almost daily basis. I agree with the last comment that 'Ali Express Standard' is the best way, and if it is not available I will still accept ePacket as well. I also have had good results any time I've had to use the dispute process, you just have to be proficient with submitting your evidence to support your dispute (making an unboxing video and keeping the label for a few weeks are good practices). With respect to the singles day sale, I've dialed back on shopping during this event since last year. The reason is for lower cost items, the small amount of savings is overcome by what appears to be a substantial increase in the amount of time it takes the seller to process and ship the items, probably due to being somewhat overwhelmed by orders. This probably also translates to dealing with a sudden incoming tide of post-sale parcels that need to be processed by the logistics companies that all these sellers seem to use. Now I try to get my shopping done before the sale starts, and not buy anything for a couple of weeks after it ends. However, after watching this, I had the thought that perhaps this sale would be the time to buy the larger ticket items like the ones you show here, such as the mid drive motors and kits, etc. Most of these items will not be subject to a huge groundswell in orders, and they probably ship with a courier such as FedEx, UPS, or DHL who are better positioned to deal with higher ticket items. (I have an eBike build arriving tomorrow from China via UPS, and yesterday I got a bill from them for outstanding fees owing, which was more than reasonable). And to update the previous comment about using the couriers, I have dealt with all of them for the larger ticket items. While DHL seems to be my preferred carrier, I've not had any outstanding issues with the others either.

I have a velomobile with pedal-assist, with a BLDC 250W geared hub motor. The battery is rated at 36v 20aH, the controller states it can handle 36v or 48v. If I switch the battery out for a 48v battery do I have to do anything to the controller setup or does it just it just sense the voltage and run with it? My top speed is set to 25 km/h to comply with EU law. I'm guessing that with the higher voltage it will cause me to accelerate faster to my maximum speed and more power will be available when hill climbing?

    I have a
2001 EV Global E-bike. It has a Heinzmann CargoPower Brushed Geared Rear Hub motor (RN-111)
    The motor specs are:
    36 to 48 volts
    600 watt nominal
    nominal speed = 200 rpm
    peak watts 950@36v and 1350@48v
It came originally with a 36 volt SLA battery pack and the controller is currently 36 volt 28 amp.
Are these brushed motors capable of over-volting the same as brushless?
If I build a 52 volt battery pack for it, and replace the controller, what amp limit would be appropriate?

Can you please tell me if there is an equivalent on Allie Express for my electric bike battery? I have a Pedego City Commuter. It has a 48 volt 15 amp battery. If I buy a replacement from Pedego it’s over $1,000! I would love to find the same battery at a lower cost. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I'm new to all of this and looking to build my own simple ebike to learn the technology so will find your links useful. However I've got a question about battery packs that might be very stupid :-) ..... Can we make modula batteries that slot together to either up the Voltage or Amps depending on how they connect? Just thinking for a number of home projects it would be useful to share batteries. I guess in my mind you start off with 12v modules (so 3 cells? ) and using some clever connectors slot together 3 of these modules in series to go up to 36v and then adding another 3 modules in parallel to boost the Amps. Obviously that would need some clever wizardry in the connecting mechanism, but am I missing something that makes this fundamentally impossible?

Matthew, check out the other videos on Micah's e-bike-school channel for info on his Vruzend(?) product (like this one: czcams.com/video/rylbFnTgFI8/video.html) where you can combine 18650 cells into any desired configuration...

Hello all. Hope someone can help. I'm looking at a couple of batteries from upp. One 48v 20ah triangle 2500 cells and the other 48v 17.5ah 3500 Samsung cells. There is about £60 difference in price. Would there be much difference in performance! Thanks

Thank you so much! I was very sceptical about buying from a website called Aliexpress.
I have wanted to get a conversion kit for my old mountain bike. They seem to have decent prices cnd. but some of the third party sellers really screw you on the shipping.
Have checked out Walmart on line(seem to have the fastest shipping) but also sold through another party.
Amazon,Amazon prime seems to be one of the most expensive and also third party sellers with long shipping times also the shipping costs are over half or more than the price of the product.
The last one is a site called Wish. Not impressed. Same thing. price of shipping is more than the cost of the product. Takes forever for it to come, then is not the advertised product.
For instance ordered a new bone nut, bridge saddle and bridge pins for my acoustic guitar.
The nut ( top string support for the strings at the tuning head) was a blank but not a square, flat surface on it. Junk!
Bridge saddle did not even get, Pins that were to be made of bone were clearly made of plastic(soft and could see casting lines on them)
They refunded the cost of the pins but not the shipping that was 2or 3 times the cost of the pins!
    DO NOT BUY FROM "WISH"!!!!!!!
    Appropriate name for them!!!
WISH I WOULD GET THE PRODUCT AFTER WAITING FOR MONTHS
WISH I WOULD HAVE RECEIEVED WHAT I ORDERED
WISH I WASN'T SO STUPID TO GET SCAMMED BY THESE BASTARDS!!
Sorry for the last one but am truly pissed with them.
Then on the top of things, they corrupted my computer due to the fact they had my visa number!!
Google caught it but, what if not?
Don't buy from Wish!! Lesson learned.
Am pretty new to this on line buying(mostly due to the pandemic) But buyer beware!! There is so many get rich quick scammers out there.
There is even ads on You Tube about "how I quit my day job, now I make a six or seven figure income while sitting on the beach" Just watch my webinar on how to for just 39.95.
Well how are they getting rich? SUCKERS!!
Sorry. A nerve got struck with me.
Thanks for your positive feedback about Aliexpress.
I do really appreciate your videos on ebikes You are a wealth of knowledge!!
    Thanks again!
