- THIS THING IS AWESOME!! This is my 48V 1000W 20AH ebike that I built from a Voilamart eBay kit. For only $350, I really didn't expect that this electric bike would be as cool as it is, but it is! It does wheelies, burnouts, off-roads like a champ, and rides on the road even better for around 50 miles before you have to charge the battery. I hope you guys enjoy the video!

I have had motorcycles my whole life. I have a large 1700 cruiser right now because I am old, BUT I am a drone pilot and photographer and I just bought my first Ebike this year and have barely touched my motorcycle. I take the Ebike up trails all of the time and find places all over the city to launch my drone and be discreet. I just look like a guy on a bicycle with a little backpack. I get off trail and film all kinds of stuff I could never get to I a car and in places where there are no people questioning what I am doing. I am already planning my Ebike upgrade.
dude you are the description of what I want my life to be like, photographer and drone pilot , plus motorcycles
I'm glad to hear that.
@@abrokendowncar ditto....plus e skateboard but local police will make my life hell if im seen on the board...so its ebike for me. Im looking for one now. Can't decide on the best model.
How do you like the bike a year later? Thinking about making one and wondering if i can follow this video verbatim or if you/original poster would do anything differently? Any tips? Hoping to make one in the next 20 days or so
@@doctort.quinlan4101 Haha. It’s great. They actually changed some laws in Missouri that make evokes legal on bicycle paths so it’s even better. You can go more places and not have to worry about a bunch of “Karen’s” calling the Park Rangers.
looked up how to make your own E bike and got your video and just what I was thinking faster cheaper and more fun then a 5700 dollar one I am 62 now and I will never grow up to be 101 like my mom is now not a purdy sight going to lose her, don't know how to live with out her in this wicked world. Doing E bike to take my mind off of mom suffering knowing she will not get any better. I got a good laugh listening to you and you are very smart. Thank you for making this video and god bless your life thank you . I will be watching your video over and over again till I power up my 2004 Mountain TRACK BIKE.
the battery level indicator on the screen reads the voltage of the battery, and when you put a load on the battery the voltage can drop a pretty large amount depending on what power you draw. That's why the battery life is "draining" when you use the throttle
Battery is a fuel tank
That's called voltage sag.
Actually that happens when the battery is not powerful enough to provide the amps it is rated for ,in that scenario voltage drops ,if you have a powerful battery it will not drop much and even the inbuilt display will show accurate results
Hey, you should look into;
-Disc brakes
-Better rims (not sure what are on there but look into thicker walled rims)
-Possibly better tires that support higher PSI so you know that they have better construction (an egg in the tire could literally kill you)
-Pedals w/ removable pins so you have more grip but not strapped or toe clipped pedals as those might also kill you
-Different gearing options for the uphill and downhill
-A battery level reader that is separate from the display so you know actual bat levels
I bought a Voilamart kit and the tire was dead within 100km. I got a Kenda Iron Cap tire at a local bike shop and have since put hundreds of miles on it and it's as good as ever! The bike shop owner (25+ years experience) said the rim from the Voilamart kit was good. The battery level on the display I think is only reading voltage. That's why it reads lower when the motor is engaged. I always go by the level indicator on my battery pack. Seeing how much cheaper the blue wraps are though - I think I'm done with buying fully-assembled battery kits from now on!
That's why I like to make my own battery packs so you know exactly what cells you are getting and you know it's done the way you want it.
Or, you can have a battery pack made for you. Happy E-biking everyone!
Aaron
And an 18650 battery system
I'd just like to say, v brakes, with good pads and propperly adjusted, are plenty good for 40 mph. I built a motorized bicycle that weighed 60 pounds, and went 40, and the v brakes would lift the rear tire under braking. Even with a rather chubby 230 pound me at the time. The main issue with v brakes is they are inconsistent and dont work as well in the wet. but higher end pads somewhat reduce that issue. But day to day, I never found myself wanting for brakes with a set of kool stop pads.
Disc brakes are much more expensive and more work to maintain, and in the dry conditions work no better then the good rim brakes. In the wet, disc are necessary.
Best e-bike build video that I’ve watched (non-stop to the end!) I’ll be back for your follow up ebike videos!
Wonderful informative video, thank you. I've watched a lot of ebike build videos, this is one of the better ones. 👏
Thanks so much for this series man. I was able to find the same bike as you, bought the kit and followed these vids as a guide. I love this thing! I'm excited to continue to work on it and see what else I can do with it! Hope to see more of your ebike in future vids.
Get disc brakes

@@doctort.quinlan4101 love it. I have built 3 others and have put over 6000 miles on them collectively. I made my original one all wheel drive with two batteries for double the torque as well. This video will give you pretty much everything you need to get started. I would upgrade the tire and tube the kit gives you though. They wear too fast and don't have strong enough sidewalls to bank hard turns confidently.
@@TheInalkii sweet thanks man! So you wouldn’t change anything besides the tire and tube? What was the total cost for all your parts besides the frame and second battery (I’d just start out with one batter for now at least). Hoping for under 300 but could possibly stretch a bit since it will save a lot of gas in commuting. Thanks again for the reply!!
@@doctort.quinlan4101 no problem! I'd say all together for a single motor build, it cost me about 100 for the bike, 250 for the kit and 200 for the 20Ah battery. I'd say budget for 600 all together. You can get a lower Ah battery but that will cut your range down too.
Great video! Thanks for sharing the build video and ride video!
Right there with you, dude. Nice job.
I had a lots of fun watching your video. I'm an old man but I do remember the fun before finding out that I wasn't bullet proof. Wishing you the best of things in your life, and keep on feeding the kid in you. It keeps you young at heart at least. LOL
Very cool, really liked watching this project and am going to grab one for myself! Looks like a blast
Was it still worth it after 3 years?
Awsome man !!!! Just ordered bafang 48v 750w and got a claud butler mountan bike an really cant wait to get it done .
50klmh here we go .
Good bike build .
On day 3 of my stay-at-home vacation and somehow found your first video on your CZcams video.
I also have a havoc hyper bike converted to an ebike.
Only difference between our bikes is my motor hub is on the front wheel.
Learned a lot from your videos and subscribed.
My bike build is 48V, 1,000 watt as well.
What's the top speed on something like that
Didn't know there was a kit that cheap, thanks for the info and video.
Loved it and I cant wait until I can afford to build my own. Thanks matey
Glad you joined us. You can use ebikes without wheelies, just enjoy the ride. Price per smiles. It's great for people to workout, that can't ride fast enough safely. Ride with traffic, not too fast or slow. I built a super nice one for my awesome woman, but I need a cheap version for me.
Plz do a video showing the range!!! Nice project congrats!
Great e bike performance nice job
Fantastic Video. Cheers.
Thats awesome! Love your vids
It’s a really good price for what you get tbh. As far as the build goes, you could do some metal or plastic fabrication to cover up the battery and ECU with fairings of some sort, would look really cool.
great video! How do you like the bike 2 years later?? Thinking about making it but curious if you would do anything differently or I can just follow your tutorial verbatim.
very good and lots of fun
fantastic video ,I loved it good job !!!!

What about adding another ebike wheel on the front and make it an AWD..

@@aaronbinder6903 maybe try a more powerful controller mine is running to 50amp controllers with pas and throttle also have 3 power setting when i first built it was running 2 17amp controllers was still fast but now it is to fast on position 3 leave it in 1 which is 25amps on each wheel you also need a decent battery mine is 30ah or 1.6kw helps with the hills
Great videos !!
dude you are very funny guy i actually enjoyed it very much
Thanks for sharing!
I'm aimed man!! I can't wait to get my voil. kit. Watching your videos gets me crazy!! I only have to wait 3 weeks for it to come in!! Boohoo!
Well. I finally got my Voilamart 1500 watt kit and it doesn't work.!! I checked all connections 30 times or more. I reached out to Voilamart but they are no help at all. They said they need proof that's it not working!! How the Heck am I supposed to do that??!!
I'm pretty sure it's the controller so I ordered another one so we will see what happens. Later everyone.
Aaron
That looks so awesome I have a 250w ebike and today I got a 750w mid drive kit in the mail but need a battery still so im waiting for that to come. Hoping i go as fast as you
Awesome Video 👍🏽💎💎💎
The price is right. I remember my first e bike i road it for a week straight. 52 volt 1500 watts mid drive and it was a lot fun . I am going for the cyclone 3000watt mid drive. i would check to see if you have enough slack on cables going to handle bars just incase the bars turn to far you don't want to rip some wires out of your controller. Thanks for video 👍🏻🚴♂️

Hello Gold Guy. Love what you have done with the E-Bike build. Working on my 2nd and 3rd now, cruisers for me and my wife. But what I wanted to know is what was the brand/type of helmet that you had on. I think I need to upgrade to something like that since I modified a mountain bike to enjoy on and off road riding much like your build.
Great stuff! Contemplating getting this kit.
Do it
I have a Voilamart 500w kit and it's been a lot of fun. Get the 1000w and get a 48v battery (or even 52v) with at least 15ah. Get a new rubber tire, too. The rim and innertube with the Voilamart kits are great. But the tire is cheap. The cheap tire punctured and put a hole in the nice innertube after about 100 miles of riding. For $45 at a local bike shop, I got a tire that will last thousands of miles now.
Good first build G.G 😊👍 Try wrapping your Battery with some "Black" XL Heat Shrink Width ways first then length ways. It would blend in with your frame alot better, could even paint side of what looks like the controller to blend that in too. Overall a great build on a little budget, Well done 😎👍👌
You said the key words “ no loud engine”. I rode dirt bikes for years and am convinced that people hate dirt bikes 99% because of the noise. Now I ride an e bike everywhere I go , love it. And did you know that according to the government, e bikes are not “ motorized vehicles “ lol yes that’s right They are not considered motorized vehicles, which is odd because they have a motor
Mmm....probably 80/20.
80% object to noise, 20% to the people who ride where they shouldn't.
I'm fine with them.
Grew up with them out in the country where if your tore up the ground where you shouldn't, someone would 'splain it to you.
Time to build one :D wooo
Success! Good job, for the happy guy. 👍 Doesn't get any better than that. Yuhuuuu...
Cool. Crazy but cool man
Extremely entertaining
Tips for your homemade ebike:
Put flatout in the tires
Put on a sideview mirror
Put on a bell for riding in parks
Put a torque arm on it to prevent motor and frame damage.
Put a shock absorbing seat post on it.
Get a lock and chain, because ebikes are regularly stollen.
Have fun on them my friend 🤠👍
The future is electric!
100% true
It is
@King Rafal ROFLL 😆🤣
I like electric and fuel powered machines, both have strong and advantages and disadvantages.
HVAC guy here. Work with motors alot.... The watts reading is going to jump around because it's based on load, downhill, less, uphill more. Anytime the controller decides to cut it, it will drop. Pedal-assist is faster because you are taking a lot of the load off, we are high torque beasts, not speedy. So the motor is adding to your legs, boom, you're FLYING. I don't know, just going off what I run into a lot, we are getting brushless/VFD/PWM motors in my field increasingly. And had to learn about them and their controllers.
Man. I'm addicted.
Thanks!
I've relaced the 26 in hub onto a 20in rim and put on my 1967 Huffy Cheater slick that I've converted into a lowrider
Excellent video thanks! How about installing a mid drive motor? Bafang, etc? Back wheel motors mess up the center of gravity.......possibly the reason for your road rash? Peace!
GOOD VIDEO AMIGO
KEEP UP THE GOODWORK SALUDOS DE MEXICO
I just bought the same wheel and a different 20ah battery for my bike. Thanks for the idea. Im gonna start doing ubereats in it
Ordered a front wheel ebike kit for my 29er. Probably won't get it 'til July. Hard to find 29" kits and Schuck is the only one I can find on Amazon and they ship overseas by sea. I ordered a front wheel 1000 watt kit. I have fairly skinny tires and I do ride through sand sometimes. So having a motor to drive the front wheel while my legs drive the rear wheel should be a huge plus. I'm really looking forward to slapping this upgrade on my bike. Bet it's gonna be a lot of fun. Best of all, I won't have to worry about riding back home against a headwind anymore.
Fyi double check your phase wires high amp draw from incorrect phase combo will cause high amp draw which will effect battery level and component life span, good vid have fun building!
yep , nice videos...I'm a dirt bike guy myself... The ebikes are the greatest things ever xD absolutely agreed... everywhere anywhere all the time. Can do a solar panels and some deep cycles and your cool for power outages too or free fuel xD we get safety shut offs and winter outages lol still needed to get to the collage and back, so just in case
I think you have the perfect build there buddy 👍👌
Hi. Have you got your built done?? What's the range you could get it?
I'm trying to get the same build as his and wondering what's the range
Very cool. I have the same lcd monitor on my flx attack ebike. mine was a lot more expensive. Lol hey thanks for sharing. 😁
Because direct drive motors have regenerative braking (depending on the controller you have) you can use really old bikes with V-Brakes and you still have a powerful regen brake as a backup brake. Old steel bikes are actually ideal because you need a strong frame ideally.
Awesome bike, looking forward to more building , you need a good battery box, just don't over charge the battery for days and don't run the battery flat dead your battery will last alot longer
Wow that's faster than most commercial ebikes!
Sick ride yo
Thanks for showing me how to show MPH ! 👍😎
That was amazing.......
The battery guage is a volt meter. When you use the motor it loads the circuit and the voltage drops. Hence showing fewer bars until the load ceases and the voltage drop is removed.
hey, just thought id clarify your concern about how weird the watts are acting and how your battery meter seemed to be acting funny.
any ebike motor kit only consumes its max amount of power when starting from a stand still and when going up hills or carrying a big load, once you are up to speed (or nearing the speed limit you have set) the wattage goes down bc its not using as much power to gain or maintain its speed.
as for the battery meter acting funky: ebike kits use battery voltage to determine the remaining charge, as your kit draws power from the battery your battery voltage will begin to sag, this is a normal thing on ebikes and your battery voltage will slowly begin to climb back as the bike begins to use less power, this is why your meter shows half battery when accelerating and goes back to full once your up to speed.
hope this clarified a few things tho you prolly already figured that out
Yeah and I'm sure his battery isn't rated for that much power draw which makes the voltage sag even worse, it's one of those fake 20 billion Ah kind of batteries you can find on Aliexpress. If you look you'll see it's totally square which doesn't make sense for a battery made out of round cells, usually you can see rounded corners and bumps because of the individual cells, but here I bet it's a small 10s2p 4ah type of battery but in a bigger box to make you think the capacity written on it is real.
@@imnota yeah, iv noticed that too, the square corners do seem very sketchy, also he did mention in the previous video about this bike that he bought the battery and kit from ebay so it could also be wrong info
I have a kd21c display on my bike any ideas how to take speed limit off?
@@mikes0121 search for a manual in pdf format on google, you should find a few results, just keep in mind if it is a prebuilt ebike you may be out of luck
@@socialfreak6900 ok thanks i will have a look ive been told i can take the restriction off the only way ive made it abit faster is adjusting the wheel size to the smallest on the display for me a exstra 5mph but makes speedo inaccuratei have a mac wheel cruise 550 moutain bike
Battery level indicator works off of the battery's voltage, which drops under load and recovers off-load. That's why the gauge dips when going uphill.
Laws regarding e-bikes vary from state to state, but in most states they're considered moped/scooters and subject to the same regulations.
E bikes are considered mopeds in many states? That's tighter regulations than in Europe...
Don't be scared.
@@norxcontacts I've ridden a crap bicycle with an outboard friction drive motor (essentially a gas-powered chop saw motor with the shaft pinched against the rear wheel) and I'm happy to say that I felt much safer exceeding 30mph downhill with a full coverage motorcycle helmet than I would have with a typical bicycle helmet. Such motorized bikes inherently have LESS bodywork and framing to protect the rider than a typical scooter, so the rider has to assume MORE responsibility for his own safety.
Hi there...I am an hobby ebiker and ebike builder, I wanted to share my torque experience as I was immediately convinced to ADD TORQUE ARMS.....I built my second EBIKE, tried a 750watt motor on the front this time instead of rear wheel 500 watt. I tested out the motor on the front and put bike back on floor while spinning motor and was late adding brakes, well....KABOOM....it snapped both front forks.Rockshox XC32!!..TORQUE DISCOVERY!!..So I had to rebuild them by adding extra support and discovered TORQUE ARMS ....glad it did not happen on the trail....So I wanted to share my experience. Torque arms are cheap compared to ROCKSHOX XC32 or a new bike frame, plus add SAFETY....Good luck...xxx
Meanwhile in the midwest! But being serious, this is pretty bad ass! i super want to do this now!!!!at all the kits on amazon and ebay right now
Intro 👏
Your battery life fluctuations are because it’s a low power lithium cells. Every time you accelerate the voltage drops due to higher amp drawing. With the better/good battery it shouldn’t drop as much. But that’s typical of a $150 20A Chinese cells battery.
Watch out for those Okoman batteries, most likely got will get cells filled with sand inside them!
this is because you suddenly get one bar battery.
Love the video and idea so much I decided to buy the same kit from the same seller. Arrived real fast but... it was clearly a pre-returned item that has issues including a frozen motor, missing parts, damaged parts, etc. Had to return it. Big bummer, unlucky 😢
Thanks for the video, I thought it would be way harder but for $350 it wouldn't hurt to take a shot at doing this to my bike.
Good job
Love the video, going to build the same bike. Please do my a favor, cover up the ceiling with 6 mil plastic, you don't want to be breathing in the fiberglass fibers.
You only have three digits for the wattmeter on this SW900 display version, so when it registers as 278 you are at 1278w. Newer versions of SW900 have four digit wattmeter. Nice vid series btw.
"It only goes about 45 miles an hour" excellent video, I really enjoyed the build and ride.
@Caleb King how can you charge it with a solar panel ?
@Caleb King ok thanks
The controller pull more power to accelerate or uphill but not much to keep at a constant speed, unless if you have a lot of wind resistance. You will get a more accurate battery level after 10 cycles.
This motor can get a lot of abuse. You can overvolt up to 120v no problem. I use lipo batteries in 24s configuration. (4 22000mah 6s lipo packs connected in series). You need change the controller for a 72v 3000w (3kw) one or better. tires to at least 2.25 and please hydraulic disc brakes!
The battery meter goes down because the battery is weak to supply the amps necessary to accelerate so voltage Sag quite a lot
4 packs in series? like im doing with my sla agm's i assume. what voltage? i could use a bit more power and range pulling a full trailer load!
I'm jealous of the LiPo, I'd love to get a LiPo instead of an Li-Ion, little more temperamental to charging habits, easy to kill if you don't know them well, but much high performance xD
@@faulker6751 88.8v nominal 100.8 Fully Charged. Bike goes about 100 kph
@@geoffwagner4935 Agreed. You have to get the proper chargers. Disconnect and Connect the batteries many times but by the performance I am getting totally Worth it. Tattu Sells 12s Lipo with bms and Balancer integrated. It is an amazing solution but a bit more expansive. Ideal if you dont want hassle and can afford it
How do you overvolt these motors
Love it!
Wow honest review I brought one
So how's it holding up? I was looking at building something extremely similar! My only problem is I have two older bikes with 26 ×1⅜ wheels maybe I could get away with 700C rim's but then I wouldn't get the power I want so a new bike it is! Also I wanted a bigger battery but as you know they're expensive! But I am curious as to how well it holds up!
The cable ties on the battery weren't strong enough, you need 5 of them for bumps, and a tiny bit of corner plinth to stop it digging in there. that said my 20AH samsung cells weigh 5.1kg and they go for 130km on flat land. I got a 1000 bike stolen 20 days ago, if you build a stealth one you should put a gps tracker in it, it cost 25 bucks.
I have 20Ah battery which stops giving power after less than 8 miles.
Can you tell what could be the problem?
Is it a new built battery of a home made battery pack ? What type motor and rating are you running ? It’s all relative. If you have a 509w hub motor like I do and only get 8 miles somethings seriously wrong but if you tell me it’s a 1500w motor and your 300lbs and doing that 8 miles stretch at 28-35 mph it might be fairly accurate but even then I’d say you’d get 12-15 miles in my scenario More then likely sounds like an worn battery or you have a few bad cells etc
the small gauge battery wires are probably causing a lot of resistance causing the voltage to sag and your battery indicator to read low.
I might also add on this video from my drone builds, always good to let your battery sit and cool a little before a charge. They have a longer life. :) I let my battery sit a while before i charge it up again until about room temp
Loved the video helped me out a lot definitely will save me some money too, thank you bro, highly appreciated, great thanks 🙏.
Hey man, just wondering if you could possibly do an update on the boosted subie!? Im definitely planning on boosting mine this summer instead of shelling out 6-7 k for a beat up wrx. THANK YOU 🙏🏽
Dang Colin you say dang a lot I love it your so dang funny
Have you upgraded the throttle or the speed controller? If so is there a plug n play brand that’s better or will I need to solder
Great video. What brand wheel u got!!
MERICA!!! We use miles LOL. I think you might consider starting another channel for ebike stuff. Your delivery is hilarious and the information is great. Thank you.
great video
Nice 👍. Actually I just finished building a very very similar ebike I couldn't believe what I'm watching 😉
Nice job. The stated net weight on the link to the kit says that it's 11.6kg - do you know what the total complete weight with battery is?
Battery monitor may be just sensing voltage, which droops when youre on the throttle. Someone can let me know if im wrong though i guess. Was thinking making my own motor controller and the battery monitor i was thinking about would just correlate voltage with state of charge so mine would probably have the same fault.
u make good vids
i love videos in fact I'm wanting to get the same set and put it on a vintage bike
Hello I like your videos! What battery do you use bran or voltage?
Great video. Wondering though, aren't the battery wires really thin for 1000W?
1000w/48V= 20.8A , so a 3.5mm cable with copper core is enough to carry the constant current.
That's awesome I would very much enjoy building one. You think I could make it faster?
What type of wire connectors you used to hook the battery to DC controller ? I must know
