My dog had the same thing - she was just miserable. One vet offered steroids and antibiotics and I decided to see another vet. That vet said she had an allergy and, get this, it was probably her diet (and not environmental) and probably the protein portion. So I decided to put her on the elimination diet and the first round, I gave her green beans and ground beef, and _nothing_ else. (Giving her anything else would mess up the results.) It was magic. She was doing great with no itching and no problems at all. Three or four weeks later I added brown rice - stilll good. Three weeks later, I added chicken. All the symptoms returned. I removed the chicken from her diet and stuck with the green beans, ground beef, and brown rice for several weeks or more, and she was once again fine. Once stable again, I added in pork. Still fine. Three weeks later I added in fish. Still fine. Three weeks later I added in eggs. All her symptoms once again returned. Took the eggs away, keeping her limited to just the foods she had shown no reaction to and she was once again fine. Anyway, it turned out she had poultry and egg allergies. The veterinarian said it's uncommon for dogs to have an allergy to both but it's not unheard of. Anyway, I hope that this has been helpful.
Thank you so much for the nice recipe as well.

I just made these. And for a guy who never truly in his life liked Beans , my high blood pressure said “Diet Change”. Beans really help lower BP.
So I used Cannelii Beans. They are white beans an very creamy.
Wow. Did this change my mind about beans. This were fantastic. Creamy and the ham hock gives the beans a nice bacon favor
I did skim off the fat after 9 hours on slow in my crockpot. I never added salt. The pork had enough.
    I highly recommend this recipe.
5 cups (4 Broth, 1 Water) and I only used one ham hock.
    Yumm!!!

I purchased smoked ham hocks at the store this evening as well as some dried navy beans. Of all the you tube videos I watched to make this soup, this is the one that looked the best to me and will be the one I will try. Beans are now soaking. Thanks for the video

Hi Dennis, let me know how it comes out for you. If the Hocks are very fatty you may have to skim off some of the grease. All depends on your preference.

I use chopped up leftover ham trimmings and the bones, I chop the onions finer, and use ONE TEASPOON of Wright's liquid smoke. Other than that, my recipe is the same as yours. I portion the HOT ham and beans into pint jars, seal and freeze. A pint is an easy meal for one. My dried beans of choice are Great Northerns. I used to use Pintos, and they are great, but changed to the Great Northern beans. Thanks for the video. Jon

Apparently if you put salt in the water you soak your beans in it will make the skins softer and allow them to cook evenly. Also they recommend as you did rinsing them after soaking but adding a little salt again to the water you are cooking them in. There is some chemical reaction that takes place apparently. They also cook faster.

Making this later today. Who could not love this! Easy, cheap and filling plus full of nutrients. I totally agree - "quick-soaking" beans doesn't get the same results as soaking your beans. The taste and texture is different. I "brine" my beans with a few tablespoons of salt. The salt is not absorbed by the beans but you get a softer bean that is creamier and cuts down on cooking time. You should try it. Thanks for sharing.

You look a lot like one of the Navy Cooks stationed at China Lake naval weapons range back in 1974. I was there on a deployment with an USAF T.A.C. unit. First day at the Navy chow hall I had navy beans and ham, with 10 pieces of corn bread. The Navy cook came over to my table and said he just wanted to see me eat all 10 pieces of his corn bread. I told him I hadn't had corn bread in 3 and half years….sit down and watch. He got up once to go get me some more butter. lol.

I wish my store had a package of 3 hocks. The smallest I could get had 6 and I didn’t know what else to do with them so I put them all in the soup. Not that it was bad, but maybe the smoked flavor was a bit overstated
Also, wow what an idea with celery salt. I’ll have to try that next time

Put your dog on grain free dog food and I'll bet it clears up.

just wanted to make a note about yur puppy my dog had an itching skin problem and I was told that it could be a chicken allergy. I switched my dogs food to lamb and rice and he doesn't have a skin problem anymore. so maybe you should try and see if that if that helps :) Hoping yur boy will feel better. great video gonna make me some soup tomorrow thank you :)

Yes the recipe is vary workable. i am very sorry you can not have a dog where you live. Rufus is a wonderful companion and I can not imagine being without him. Maybe you can find a place where you can have a dog, that would be awesome! Thanks for watching and I wish you the best.
