Another amazing video about old timers. Thank you.

I like the ergonomics of these old radios. Although touch screens allow greater functionality they don't have much tactile feedback. I watched an RAF video recently of fighter pilots transitioning from traditional buttons and switches to 'glass cockpits' and they found it pretty difficult for a while. Thanks for your video!

Thanks for showing us these old gems playing music that was made fifty years before the engineers and technicians who the radios together were born.
I wonder if the static you were hearing was the tornado producing storms that hit Nashville TN which is home of WWCR transmitters which carries “The Talking Machine Show”…serendipity!
    Have a great day!

These two receivers are very historical and something I would love to get someday. I think your E311 is especially great!

Hi Nick, I see other amazing tube boat anchors in mint condition in you collection, really cool. On the Collins I’ve noticed you didn’t set the BFO properly listening SSB. Try and move it around with your taste for listening/interferences, but out of 0 position.
Also as a Ham operator I’d like to ask you if in future videos if you could make me listen to some more SSB and CW demodulation on ham bands, where you can test and check their capabilities handling nearby offending signals, QRM/QRN. Probably 40 meter band is gonna be the most appropriate band for doing that.
    Thanks and best wishes
    Diego

Diego thanks for your comments. Regarding the BFO, I usually leave it alone as long as it sounds pretty good. I will try and do some of what I call “Ham stuff” for you. Happy Holidays!!

Thanks Nick. It didn’t sound right on SSB to me. You need to turn it right for USB and left for LSB to give it the right demodulation. Try and let me know.

you have a lot of nice radios for sure out of the older ones tube type can you list them in order of sensitivity and over all build quality? i cant afford a swartz or the other military and professional radios right now unless theyre older or have to stay in consumer grade...just looking around and saw your good videos....is the hammarlund still the best older one you got? thanks and best wishes

They are all very sensitive. Hammarlund HQ180 is probably best value for the money, the Collins R388 and the Siemens 311 are unbelievably accurate on their dials for not being digital. But whatever you get you have to get one that has been worked on by a professional. These radios are all very old

thanks for the information much appreciate it. always waned a watkins johnson and/or racal maybe a nice ts890 or perhaps a yaesu 3000 or ft 101 but not sure if the newer radios hear better or if the old radios beat them in sensitivity and build quality...I cant afford them all lol ok thanks and just want to say your videos are very good God bless and Merry Christmas

@@danmiller1978 thank you Dan and Merry Christmas to you! I have some new radios. I love my Icom 7610! I have done a couple videos on it, you would not be under gunned if you compared this to a WJ or Racal
