  • Sky's Ed Conway speaks to former prime minister Liz Truss following the release of her new book, 'Ten Years To Save The West'.
    Ms Truss refused to apologise over UK mortgage rates which increased during her time in office and put the blame firmly at the door of the Bank of England.
    However, Ms Truss admitted she should have spoken to the Bank's Governor at the time.

Secondly, football players are being paid whilst doing their job, once they retire from being a player then they have to find another job.       No, the interest rates rose sharply as a result of her economic policies. Yes the BoE control the interest rates but they reacted to the massive crisis her and Kwarteng caused by choosing to ignore all economic advice with their mini budget and crashing the pound with massive unfunded tax cuts for the richest in society.

      Wrong. She has an education in economics. She is right, the issue was down to BoE not hedging inflation with rate rises earlier and asleep on LDI crisis. Also Sunak printed £500bn and reckless with it during Covid. Her £45bn was just 10% of that. Her book spells it out clearly.

    Liz Truss had nothing to do with rising of interest rate. The Bank of England is independent and raised interest rate. The Bank continued to raise interest rate after she resigned.
    Naturally orthodox economists at BOE always believed that over supply of money is responsible for inflation irrespective of the nature of the nature of the inflation
    The reality is that the mini budget was good intentioned. The Markets and Bank of England torpedoed her leadership
