- Detecting luster can be very difficult--especially for new collectors of those who are bridging the gap between stacking and collecting.
In this short introduction to luster, we'll examine three silver coin series: Morgan dollars, Peace dollars, and Mexican 5 pesos. We'll look at lower grade circulated examples of each and compare them side by side with brilliant uncirculated examples, making note of the luster as it appears.
Great video, thanks for all the good information. Very good examples of the “cartwheel” effect.
Glad you liked it!
Great video. Thank you for showing such great examples and giving understandable explanations
Hope you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
Good explanation. Thanks.

I’m pretty new to collecting/stacking silver and this video helped me a lot so, thank you man and cheers from Florida!
Thanks. Nice to hear from new collectors!
Thanks for the info.
Thank YOU for watching 😁
The coin geek does a great video of coin luster verses cleaned coins.,
Thanks for using Morgans!
LOL! NOT my favorite series. And yet, I have hundreds of them! :)
Thank you for this educational video. I was fascinated the entire video. I would love to pick up some 5 peso coins like you have. Do not have much luck finding a source. Happy New Year. Stay blessed amigo.
Glad you liked it! These 5 peso pieces seem to appear out of nowhere. I'll find some, then it will be 3 or 4 years before I find more. If you haven't watched the Stacking Mexican Silver video series, I talk about these a lot in volume 3: czcams.com/video/fYbOBw4f_tQ/video.html
I will watch the series. I am from Texas so have a fondness for the Mexican coinage. I acquire Libertad’s in both gold and silver as I can. Also love the older gold Mexican peso coins. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Great video ! 👍
Thanks. Glad you liked it!
Lustre is actually fine flow lines from a later die state struck coin. A bright, proof like, surface with no lustre is an early die state struck coin.
When picking a coin at the LCS my brain lusts for The One. Sometimes a cloth cleaned coin with luster seems to tickle my brain more,(plus it's discounted). Logic vs beauty.
If you aren't moved, what's the point? You do you. Just remember it may be tricky when you go to sell!
Nothing like fondling an unc coin with full luster
Carefully. I try to be careful but making a video makes it hard sometimes!
Hello Sir ✋🏼
I like your very informative vídeos 👌🏼
I would have a question for you, I own 2007 MX libertad stored in their box but they turned Into « goldie champagne « color . Is that can affect the collecting the value ?
Cheers From French Alps
Merci! Toning is really subjective: If it's attractive it can definitely improve the value. If it is uneven or an unattractive color, it can hurt value a little.
I noticed that some toned coins don't have the same sun raised 🌄 'lusir' as white coins.
You didn't cover those.
Do all coins have luster
Great question. Some have more than others. Clad coins seem to really need to be in really high mint state to show luster. Copper and nickel can, but not as apparent as silver. Gold seems like it should but I have a hard time thinking of luster on circulation strike gold.
Thank you for the information
