    First rule of cleaning a car is do the wheels first.

  • @AnonYmous-ty8im
    @AnonYmous-ty8im Před 6 lety +5

    The most time consuming part in detailing a car is the polishing, I know from experience. A half decent 3 stage polish will take 1 to 2 days depending how bad the paintwork is and how intricate the body panels are. Then you will have a day cleaning and decontaminating first and half a day to a day on the wheels. So for a very good detail you could be looking at 4 days. To clean, decontaminate and one stage polish my old Astra vxr and the. Protect with polish or sealant would take me a full day.
    A lot of money is spent on products, some waxes can cost in excess of £1,000. Yes, you could say what the point but what’s the point in buying anything expensive, why buy a white t-shirt from Ralph Lauren for £80 when you could get the same for a tenner? You pay for the name and product. A car will always get dirty but proper protection will help protect the paintwork and keep it looking its best and ultimately help in resale value

    • @BritishCommentWriter
      @BritishCommentWriter Před 6 lety +2

      That is a good point. Why buy a white T-Shirt from Ralph Lauren for £80 when you could get the same for a tenner? Why spend 2 days on polishing when you can take 2 hours?I'm also calling bullshit on the idea that "proper protection" will help the resale value. Unless you've got a colour which should be illegal, like red or black, you can leave a car dirty for months or years on end and it doesn't add a penny to the deflation.

      Washing up liquid does not stop wax that bull shit it leaves a film on the paint that gives the appearance that it’s been stripped only way is an abrasive polish then panel wipe to remove oils

    • @DiscoFang
      @DiscoFang Před 6 lety

      Yes. The idea that it is bad for cars came from the days of terrible paint technology and cars starting to rust as they left the factory. The theory was: Because detergent breaks surface tension of water it would allow it to get in between folded seams of the metal bodywork more-so than water alone and therefore accelerate corrosion. The difference between dish-washing detergent and car-wash are the waxes & other protectant additives that would protect those spots it got into. However the failure of this theory is that the capillary action is actually REDUCED by adding detergent. The lower the tension the lower the capillary pressure. Plain water gets further into the seams.

    • @testdriveuk9270
      @testdriveuk9270 Před 6 lety +8

      No car clean, however detailed takes 2 weeks. You can strip the entire car to bare metal and repaint in far less than 2 weeks and for less than £5000 as well. There are detailers near me that do a detail that is 7 days, and the only step different from their 24hr service is they use a stronger cutting compound first before the intermediate then high gloss. So they are basically saying it takes 6 days just to do one more pass with the DA with a stronger cutting compound. Even a novice can DA an entire car in a couple of hours. Its a con, the 7 days is literally there just to make it sound like you are getting alot more for your money than you actually are. The car will sit to one side in the workshop for 6 days then get done in one day.

      Based on personal experience, resprays are usually far poorer than an OEM finish. The 5000 is literally a fully non existent exaggeration by with gear. The only service that should take anywhere north of 1250 would be a orange peel removal which is essentially full show car prep. and the results would be astounding and bar stone chips could easily surpass the majority of body shops in the UK at least lol

      @@kerstas10 car washers usually dont use ph neutral shampoo, and that causes any protective layers like wax to strip off. so you should basically re-wax every time you wash at a carwash, wax costs money, takes time, ...at the end of the day handwashing leads to better results and its cheaper

But having a standard car like a Toyota Highlander, I just use a sponge and a bucket and that does the job just as well. But the biggest mistake people make when it comes to cleaning their car, is taking it to a car wash. Those machine are what truly destroy the paint on a car.

Where do you think the water goes when it's forced through the radiator and other gaps at 60+ miles per hour? Nothing wrong with hosing your engine down under mild pressure. Just let it dry out adequately.

    My car is here for me and not the other way around. I hate people putting their cars on a fucking throne and just sitting around it. The car is made to give me an experience not to be perfect for the rest of its life.

    I'd rather have it ceramic coated, even easier maintenance washes and you wouldn't have to wax it every 6 months, unless you just enjoy that process..

      henry horse If you owned a vehicle that was worth in excess of £200,000 or if you own a classic that can easily run into the millions then you would happily pay £5,000 to have the very best detailer work on it, if it’s value gets damaged by improper care then you would be daft not to use someone who knows the best way to care for it. These guys measure paint depth, they strip sections of bodywork off the cars to clean and protect sections that are impossible to reach with a normal clean. You are paying for a lot of skill, a lot of knowledge and the security of knowing that your car is in the very best hands.
