It there an American buy option? I dont seem to see it. Thanks Questing Beast.
Amazing review as always! I would like to see more videos about the OSR principles and the core ideas behind the abstract structure of roleplay games itself. Videos like "The Lost Dungeon Crawling Rules of DnD", "Making Encumbrance Fun in DnD", "Knave: OSR RPG Review" and "Building DnD Traps That Players Love" Are my favourites because it makes me understand what they where trying to evocate back in the 70's and how those intenctions are still evolutioning and ultimatley improving. It helps me to have greater sessions with my friends and in overall terms it gives me a sensation of very high reward because I had invested so much in dnd because to me it was always a very cryprtic game even though I been playing it since 2015 (starting with 3,5 e then switching to pathfinder and now I have my own system based on the principles I been learning from you). Discoverying your channel helped me to give a very valuable meaning to all those years invested in something I knew there has to be more behind, and because of this channel I finally found it. So thank you very much Ben!, I will be wating your next video full of enthusiasm :)
PD: Sorry if I am speaking weird, english is not my native language.
Your English is great, man! also, definitely have to agree. I cannot sing my praises enough to this guy. The incumbrance video will always be a favorite.
Your English is good enough for East Coast American. We tend to abuse some words, and you do that like a native. "Evolutioning" (evolving) We do things like that all the time.
Your English is very good.
It looks so flavourful, in a good way. It reminds me of Strange Stars. The covert art alone is fantastic.
This looks interesting indeed. I also liked Solar Blades & Cosmic Spells
What goes into the public domain is a bit complicated, but the basic term is now 95 years, so only works from 1924 and earlier are automatically in the public domain currently. There are cases of things froim later years entering the public domain based on the patchwork of laws that have been in effect in the past but they are more the exception than the rule (though some of the exceptions are often noteworthy, like A Wrinkle in Time is now public domain). A number of works could be public domain because their authors failed to renew their copyrights back then the time frames allowed for renewal after 28 years, and I imagine a lot of pulp art could have fallen into that category (but it can sometimes be hard to verify for certain what is or is not based on non-renewal).
Gotta love those yellow/black inner covers.
I love the art in this book. so many cool ideas. thx.
Great review! I bought the POD of the old version like a month ago, and immediately bought the new version last night on Exalted Funeral. The game is awesome!
Loving all your videos by the way
This looks pretty cool! I'm always down for Genre-Bursting, so I'm gonna look into this more closely.
I bought this recently and it's very good! Thanks for reviewing it. If you could, I'd love it if you'd review The Hero's Journey 2nd edition soon!
That violent yellow makes the glossary pages very hard to look at
Yes! More pulpy sci-fantasy fun!
I'll be looking forward to getting this 0nce Exalted Funeral is carrying it here in the states.
I love this game. It gives so much freedom! As long as their characters fit the archetypes with a little re-flavoring, players can be anything they can think up! And because it’s sort of gonzo, with the alternate dimensions, NOTHING is off the table.
during playtesting i played a drowned undead (that the example is based on), Alita battle angel (essentially), and 'the colour Beige'.
James Mapp I’ve a friend who is playing an eldritch god whose “body” is made up of dead, fetid flesh that he has possessed. He crams it all into a astronaut suit so he can be in the shape of a human. Uses the undead archetype.
@@Wesley_Youre_a_Rabbit so basically he's a astronaught teddybear bought from build-a-bear workshop, but packed with meat instead of wadding? lol, excellent..
James Mapp LOL Yes. And I forgot to mention that he “hides” his true nature by sticking a pair of big googly eyes onto the outside of the helmet. Humans have eyes right? His disguise is full proof! His character believes this 100% and he roleplays the hell out of it.
This really seems excellent. I love the style, the detailing, the setting, it gives me a lot of inspiration as player and DM both. I'm going to have to see if I can find a way to order a physical copy here in the US.
I think it's coming to Exalted Funeral in the US at some point in the future.
Yep, should be arriving at Exalted Funeral any day now.
@@Mottokrosh Let me know when it's in and I can add the link to the description.
So Exalted Funeral finally got the copies today, but they're already sold out! More on the way soon hopefully.
Snap! Putting things in my slots determines what I can do too.
Great review. I just got the physical copy and have been admiring it all day. It might be a little crunchier than I prefer, but that's only because I'm super lazy at remembering things in games.
Very well formatted book
Sounds really nice, cool artwork
I have this! It's super weird. I love it.
That sounds incredible!
Met the creator of Hypertellurians at Mörk Borg Releaseparty! I were starstrucked!
This book has some excellent layout. Very solid
I hope Exalted Funeral or some other distributor in the U.S. picks this up.
The box of books should be with them any day now!
The PoD from DrivethruRPG is pretty good.
@@willbriggs5855 I only see the PDF on there. Are you able to see a PoD option?
@@penitentialarts The POD was for the original edition, and is no longer offered.
@@Mottokrosh Wait, I just barely bought it like two weeks ago... now I need to buy a new version? What fresh hell is this?
Will the new version come with an updated PDF, or is the PDF on DTRPG updated?
sold out already?!
The demand in the US took us all by surprise. More stock is on its way! In the meantime, it's still available in the EU.
Currently on sale as the deal of the day at Drivethrurpg.com:

It gives me an Dying Earth vibe.
Oh man, that layout and printing is really well done. Sspent money on their designer and the printing, didn't they? But you can see the influence of Mork Borg in the art and aesthetic-driven layout.
I'm a huge fan of Mörk Borg of course, but the original graphic design was actually done way before that came out, though reformatting for the new edition was more recent. :) Also, I _wish_ there was any money to spend on the designer, i.e. me. :D
All about the feel
The artwork looks like a modern take on the older pulp style. Just a guess but I don’t think the artwork was taken from older public domain artwork.
It's a mixture. The big chapter openers are "remastered" versions of public domain art, everything else is original (some from Patreon stock art, but the majority is brand new).
That book looks exactly like Mörk Borg. (LOVE that game!) Layout & everything. Is this from the same company? If it isn't, somebody should get sued. Lol.
Not sure what you mean, the layout looks VERY different to me.
@@QuestingBeast the bright yellow with black text on the first few pages is exactly the same, bright colors interspersed with black & white, art taking up portions of the page across text at angles, even the character sheet had a similar feel. Much of this presentation felt incredibly Mörk Borg-ish to me. My first thought while watching was "is this Sci fi Mörk Borg?".
I don't think that's a bad thing.
@@GiuseppeRedscarf I'll take that as a compliment! :D The two were developed completely independently (at about the same time it turns out), so great minds must think alike. I love Mörk Borg, and the creators are having fun with Hypertellurians too, as can be seen in this Actual Play I did with them, GMed by Chaosium's esteemed line editor: czcams.com/video/cWTAbZjLwuk/video.html
@@Mottokrosh it was meant as a compliment. :-)
One of the few RPGs that I ever sold. The lack of any setting information, very inconsistent stock art and terrible quality custom made art made it a big disappointment for me.
Seems like an awful lot of classic fantasy for a retro pulp sci-fi game. Not a bad thing per se, but not what I'd be looking for.
i literally played the colour Beige during playtesting... classic fantasy is definitely possible, but by no means required in the setting or in character choices.
