    The 2020 Yamaha YZ250 2 stroke is unchanged yet again for another new model season. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. It truly shows how good this bike was in 2006 when it received it's last major update with Kayaba SSS suspension. As the Austrian manufacturers as well as TM continue to develop their 2 stroke line the Yamaha will face stiffer competition in the 250 class as time goes on if there isn't an update. We applaud Yamaha for being the only Japanese manufacturer continuing their 2 stroke line up and only hope that they might set some R&D budget aside to update it a little more. Check out what Josh Mosiman had to say about the 2020 model after a full day of riding at Glen Helen Raceway.

    I grew up in the 70's & 80's when I first started riding at 12 yrs old. I'm a broken-down old man now. But I lived to ride. I remember when the first MONO SHOCK, & then later , THE WATER PUMPERS came out. Everyone was blown away. But no matter what the brand was.... if you wanted to dominate on a small track you definitely wanted a 2 stroke. HIGH STRUNG, NIMBLE, & WIREY, with a short, angry POWER CURVE. Oh Hell yes! That guy made that bike look like so much fun winding back-n-forth up that hill... I hope all u youngsters out there are exploiting every second u can. You'll never get it back once it's gone. And it goes fucking fast. Just a few thoughts from an old "has been"

      I hear u brother - I grew up in Southern Cal High Desert right between Victorville and Lucerne Valley. We lived on a dirt road - I could literally go riding straight out of our garage into the desert everyday after school. Summers were pure magic. Make up our own race tracks through the natural terrain. Find jumps, make our own burms, climb hills. Everyday of riding was like Christmas. Sorry, I started to rant a bit. Take Care Crunchy.

      I'm an OG too! (Old Guy 52) My relatives owned a Honda Dealership in Fresno. (Who happened to be my favorite aunt & uncle, cousins) Every thanksgiving they'd bring bikes to our family gathering. I got to ride the Z50 mini, ATC90-110-220?, XR75, Odyssy250, plus get rides on the fastest bike each year. I'd sit in front of my cousin holding the cross bar while I melted my shoes with my feet on the casings, helmet bobbling on my head.
      My cousin would ride wheelies thru all the gears and hang the turns. I always begged him to catch air out of the dry creek. It would get dark before they could get us in to eat.
      He never crashed or even laid it over once giving me those rides. The best rider I've ever seen in my entire life.
      The when I was 13 I got a brand spanking new 1980 CR80R. I looped that bike so many times, learning how to ring her out.
      I could have died twenty years ago and would have still died a happy man, just as I would today.
      But I still want another 250F to free ride until the wheels fall off. Man, time goes by fast.

      Man that sounds like so much fun. Fresno? We were practically neighbors. I remember those 90 & 110 Hondas with the big bouncy tires & thumb throttle. It's a wonder more of us weren't killed. If you're Aunt & Uncle were mine...I bet they'd be my favorite too. They all sound like wonderful people. That CR 80 must've been the envy of the neighborhood. lol

    This YZ250 is the equivalent of the Nissan GTR. It was way ahead of it’s time, it still keeps up with today’s competition, the kinks have been worked out over the years, and the aftermarket support is fantastic. I guess both suit the old saying “don’t fix what’s not broken”.

      Hey man, keep dreamin. The mind's an incredible thing. If you work toward one, you might could get one. Looks like the 'new' YZ250's are about $650 less than the 250F's. There may also be some 2019 (or older) models on some showroom floors somewhere, and you could save many more hundreds.
      I bought a new Yamaha from San Diego and had it shipped to the Bay Area for like $350, but the motorcycle was $1,000 cheaper than anywhere else, so I saved $650.
      Then there's 14 years worth of used (mostly unchanged) bikes all around the country. You could find one in killer shape and save buckets of dough.

Even the older yz250s are awesome bikes! Yamaha and Honda were always neck to neck at the technology and competition on these MX 2 smoke bikes in 90s thru mid 00s. Aren't you the guy who said "your're not going to win on this" last year? That tells me you know squat about bikes that bike has been refined to the 9th degree reason Yamaha has not changed anything major since 2006. I own the 2014 250 and also my vintage CR500R and I can tell you that the Yamaha kicks ass. Light, Keihin carb better than KTM, ass kicking torque and factory suspension best in the market. If you can not win on that bike out of the crate then you ain't jack

    i feel like they need to start making larger two strokes that actually can compete with these 450s to get some variety in the pro leagues and to keep two strokes alive, im not saying they should start racing 500s (although that would be amazing) but maybe some 350 race bikes.

    I wish Honda would release their perfect 250 2 stroke that they never got a chance to produce. I can't believe that this thing hasn't changed in that long. Growing up it seemed like every year the 2 strokes got better.

    I'm new looking to get into dirt bike riding what is a good fuel mix ratio when it comes to mixing gas? Kind of a noobish question but I want to hear if theres any mixed opinions out there or if it's a set formula

      @@EarthSurferUSA Thanks for the advice. Now another thing I'm having some trouble with is deciding whether to get a 2 or 4 stroke. I'm thinking either a yz250 or Suzuki rm 250. Is it true that 2 strokes break more often? I admire their simplicity so they're easy to fix from what I hear but I like reliability too. I mostly plan to be trail/woods riding not being too hard on the bike and hear 2 strokes are better for that. Someone also told me you have to do top ends after 20 hours which I don't think is true. What's your opinion though?

Would I have to mess with the stock jetting from adding that ? I’m about 500 ft above sea level I believe . It’d help a lot if you guys got back to me

And yeah a hardtop is definetly in the s’s future . If your interested in following the build of the car or bike my ig is @VirginiasOwn

      @i_dodge_trees Před 4 lety

      Keep the stock pipe, you'll gain nothing from the gnarly, might just lose a bit of a top end. Oh and the stock pipe sticks out a lot less.

    • @i_dodge_trees
      @i_dodge_trees Před 4 lety +1

      Best thing you can do to improve the bottom end, without doing a 325 kit, is the GYTR weighted flywheel. Oh and your stock jetting should be adequate, just fiddle with the air screw. If you really want you can start messing around with NECJ needles and stuff, forums are your friend.
